This is a repost of my survey on the official forums. I am trying to expand the audience and reach of this survey. You would help me greatly if you could get your fellow GW2 players on reddit or ingame to answer it as well.

I’d be interested in seeing some community statistics on who plays PvE and PvP.

To that effect, I have built a survey with kwiksurvey, which I hope you will answer. I’ll be publishing and keeping the results up to date. If you have polite suggestions as to how I can improve the survey, I would be interested in hearing them.

http://kwiksurveys.c...jqv80340&refer=

The survey, of course, more detailed than the binary PVE/PVP distinctions. Depending on the response, I may consider creating future ones asking people about why they play mostly PvE, PvP, which elements they like most/least, etc.

Spoiler

Casual PVE. Still loads to do there.
However, I'd like to get into the WvWvW scene. Guess I'll have to find a guild for that first.

PvE player here, focusing on open world stuff, leveling, DEs, jumping puzzles and the like. I used to PvP in FPS/strategy games/WoW but I play to relax nowadays, and PvP is tense - not what I want in my gaming time at this point.

not sure of the sample size right now, but I'm kinda surprised there isn't more sPvP played.  Shows me I'm not the only one who thought anet dropped the ball on pvp with gw2 considering how good it was in gw1.

You can see how few people are in hotjoin within an entire region at any time by looking at the pvp browser. You can also see how long it takes to find a match in tournaments. And don't even get started on paid tournaments, there is a reason Anet has to move to single match format.

I'm equally surprised that most PvE players don't exclusively run dungeons (like me).

But I guess they take levelling alts and killing world dragons into the equasion.

Well, 10% of 3 million games sold is still 300.000 players doing PvP. Even with double accounts, banned bots and stuff like that, there should be enough people to make it enjoyable.

Or jumping puzzles or earning karma or whatever else seems fun at the time.  Dungeons (particularly Fractals) may be the most efficient way to gain rewards at the moment, but if I just did that I'd probably be bored to tears!  Better to be less efficient and actually enjoy the game if you ask me.

(So yeah, primarily a PvE player here, with a little WvW being my only PvP experience thus far.)

In other games, I usually spent 40-50% of my time in PvP.

In my time in GW2, I played sPvP all of 3 hours and enough WvW to fill out monthly achieves...

Casual, half half between pvp and pve at the moment.

Barely touched wvw - need to build my character up more through pve. Looks fun though, guess that's where I'll gravitate end-game.

Mostly casual PVE but I have a serious weakness for WvW and I spend most of my spare time these days in one of the borderlands on my thief (she's more fun in wvw than my poor necro gal).

Doesn't WvW count as PVE? It's required to make high end PVE gear.

I only play PVE. WvW is boring and SPVP I would play but I lose all those skins I spent so much time farming, so forget it.

Screwing around in WvW is what I do mostly, but I also like to run around in pve doing random events and jps here and there. I like to burn lots of consumables while doing pve (also in wvw, but less since the more powerful ones are pve only). They add variation to the gameplay.

I do not make the distinction between PvE and PvP in GW2.

This opponent is just pixels like that other one, only cept the ones in PvP have a higher chance of doing surprising things.

Despite my insane love for GW1 PvE, it was low-end PvP that gave GW1 the most longevity. So I was going into GW2 with the hope that it will at least give me some decent PvP, while I could still get my PvE fix in games such as D3, especially since I quite enjoyed hot-join during the BWEs.
As it then turned out, gear-based WvW is a joke and hot-join lost pretty much all its appeal once I got over the novelty factor.

So, while I wish GW2 would be a PvP game, I currently treat it as basically a PvE-only game.

PvE (alts, events, dungeons - both story and explorable).  Spend most of my time in this area.

WvW - not as much as I could. Haven't had that much fun in open world group pvp since DAoC. (Thank you ANet).

sPvP -  none. Ladder days are long over. Glad it's there for players that enjoy it. Also glad it is designed in a way that does not interfere/impact the other 2 playstyles.

PvE & WvW and a happy customer that has the option to do both.

I used to be a PvP player in Guild Wars, the PvP was brilliant. I did some PvE only for armors/HoM. In Guild Wars 2 however... I'm a pure PvE player now...
