They mentioned several times on the official forums, that no mounts are coming. Also there were enough references to horses before that concept art, I wont bother to write them again, look for my posts if you want to know.

References in the books probably, which I will not read. Don't think every one can write fantasy, even more, based on a game...
BUT in gw1 and gw2 there are no horses.

Mounts are a great way to show off and a staple in every single MMORPG that was ever considered successful. If ArenaNet are smart they will implement mounts as quickly as possible. Matter of fact, all critically acclaimed MMORPGs have mounts. Very flashy ones at that which really make you stand out in a crowd. Every single player passing by will undoubtly take a look at you and your massive status symbol. Players will gasp in awe and go green with envy staring at your materialized heroic deed. A dream come true for the vast majority of MMORPG players. Guild Wars 2, a completely dull, boring and stale game, badly needs mounts if it ever wants to garner a larger playerbase and break free from its current anabiotic state. Fact is, only a very tiny niche crowd is against mounts while the vast majority badly wants them and considering how fickle ArenaNet is on these things, mounts on both land and air are a certain thing to come in a very, very near future. They listened to us on the vertical progression matter and they will, without a shred of doubt, listen to us, the majority, once again.

May have been true a few months ago, but no longer. With all the top reviews, ratings and awards that GW2 has received, noone can credibly argue that GW2 is not critically acclaimed. And GW2 has no mounts. :P

Does anyone know what hayrides are? It would be awesome to have a Dolyak pulled hayride through low levelled maps, just having multiple guild members enjoying the scenery and feasting and handing out guild buffs to anyone who ate the food and drank the wine on the caravan.

Ok, please point me to a place where I can see actual horse, not some single sentence from some quest or conversation between "canthan villagers" or such. And don't tell me centaurs are todays horses, even the obvious. ;)
I want to see real walking horse anywhere, oh wait there arent any... And now they can come from far far away...
Unless they present new part of Tyria, far continent as new Expansion, ala Australia, cut from the rest of the world. And still will be shame to have horses. :(

You said horses are only mentioned in books, which is not true, as I have proven already in this thread, but I don't blame you for being to lazy to go back 2 pages. So I'll do it again, in more detail. For the longest time, horses have thought to been native to Orr only, and they went extinct with the Cataclysm. Why we have plenty of references to horses in Prophecies, we only ever see them, as undead, mounted by the Necrid Horsemen.
However Cantha also has some references to horses, the most important one is the Celestial Horse, a demi-god like being. So we can asume they live there too. And of course we have the horses mentioned in the Edge of Destiny, which are said to live near Lion's Arch, in Kryta. So horses are in fact, still alive.

Why don't we see them then? Easy, because the majority of people who see a horse only think of one thing. "I wanna mount it!". And Anet does not want mounts in the game (atleast not now). So they don't show them. Maybe we will see them one day as neutral animals, but until then you have to live with them existing, but you can't see them, because people are stupid.

Why mounts will never be in GW2:

Arenanet dont do things halfways. If they are gona add mounts, they are probably gona ad a whole heap of animations and mechanics in to it at the same time, aswell as a way to get them, and varied mounts. This would require a load of time and effort, time and effort arenanet don't have since they are bussy working on the stuff that probably should have been sorted out b4 launch, but they just didnt have time.

Maybe in the very distant future, but I wouldn't count on it.

There are only few professions which have 25 % speed buff, and few with swiftness for majority of time.In some cases it comes with sacrificing traits or/and skill slots and rune slots so your point is invalid.
How is my point invalid? My point is very valid, people like you ask for mounts that provide a speed boost.

My reason for "not wanting" mounts is:

Developing them needs people, time, efforts from devs

Game has already enought stuff they need to do BEFORE this total superfluous things.

Even if that case is true and I agree but still the question remains, why ANet released the Quaggan backpack? Isn't that unnecessary too?

I played a few mmo's where mounts are a mean of faster travel or to collect, ANet already gave us a broomstick which even if it's not a real mount it could be a good concept. Adding a mount slot somehere in the hero panel and when equipped gives a higher speed boost than 33% wouldn't be so bad.

Some people like to ride around the world instead of teleporting (personally I like to ride around with my horse in skyrim without ever using quick tele or carriage).

Some people (especially girls) Like to collect mounts.

Some people hate teleporting from Wp to Wp in LA (or any other place for that matter) and wait for that loading everytime.

Everyone has a different opinion and reason why they want it. I personally can live without but if they're implemented I'd definitely get one just for the hell of it.

The quaggan backpack has an obvious profit motive, and they will probably succeed, if they haven't already.

-snip-

The quaggan backpack is a static object, using already existing textures, already existing static meshis and that doesnt impact on any of ur character's motions.
Same goes for the Broomstick (except for the fact they needed to develop a new "stance" for the character when it is on it)

You cant compare the work needed for those items to the work required to create a mount (not to talk about more and different mounts)

I got the new Riding Broom as a joke and it turns out to be pretty damn awesome.

Posted Image

Purely cosmetic mounts like this are fine, however I'd like them to add in real combat-ready mounts, but only if they gave them the right time and effort to make them right.

Given the Riding Broom explicitly states it does not give a speed boost, and to a lesser extent the fact the dominant image for the Flame and Frost patch has been a guy on a horse, makes me think there could be more, hopefully more lore-friendly, mounts-like things in the works.

What armor is that?

On topic, I don't think mount would be fitting or useful in GW2.
You can get to any point of the game through teleport, and cover the remaining distances easily by swiftness.
In WvW the whole point of far away waypoints is to prevent people from spawning continuously - having a closer waypoint can turn the tides of a battle - so adding mounts would defeat the whole point of this system.

Cosmetic mounts are not what people are asking, let's face it; it would be pretty much like using minipets and barely anyone does.
People want faster speed in a game where you can get anywhere by waypoint.

Now I would say yes to mounts if waypoints were rare but it's really not the case, and mounted combat would be pretty much a joke in GW2 so let's just leave this cheese to other games.

Med Kit Swiftness + Elixir B + Fast-Acting Elixirs + Potent Elixirs (optional) does not give you permanent swiftness, but it you can keep it up in your rotation (good for traveling) fairly often.

Speedy Kits. Done.
Rune of the Centaur + Med kit.

Engineer swiftness is too easy.

Quickness isn't a long duration effect on any profession.

I heard charr surf on the broom (for whatever reason). All other races ride it traditionally, well... less so with the asura:

You can use it anywhere outside of combat as it's considered town clothes but an, in my opinion, for-the-better-semi-glitch lets you use your normal armour with it. My character coincidently has some resemblance to Colin but it wasn't planned.

I ask for purely cosmetic mounts =P

And problem with minipets is that they are stored in your bag, taking up room for junk, and get deposited when you deposit junk, AND are only obtainable for gems, while a lot of people are struggling to make money.

As I have said before;

2pc Rune of The Pack
2pc Rune of Speed
2pc Rune of Air

Gives you 160% increase in Run Speed duration. I bought the level 60 Norn racial armor, put those runes on the armor and I use Call of the Wild along with Rampage to maintain Swiftness for 99.5% of the time (If you aren't right on top of things or lag for a moment, you will lose Swiftness before regaining it). My normal spec has 10 points in the trait the extends buff duration an additional 10%, so the total benefit it 170%.

If I put an addition 10 points into that trait line, I gain time. I can post a cropped screenshot showing "Swiftness: 2M" if you want.

The really interesting thing is, these runes grant the 4pc bonus, per set, even though you only have 2pc. So I gain the benefits of having 12 runes but only have 6 runes on my armor.
