Because spending 50s+ on Waypoints is stupid. (Yesterday doing Jumping Puzzles for January Achievement)
So because you don't understand that simply getting to the start of the JP counts, that each character's arrival at that location counts, and that it resets daily, it means that Anet's culpable for your expenditure of way too much silver to complete that achievement?
I got that achievement done for free 2 days into the month by sending my 5 characters to the three jumping puzzles in LIon's Arch daily. Something I already did considering the chance of rares and exotics from the two larger chests.
Yes, spending 50+ silver on waypoints is stupid. You're aware that you can recoup the costs of one nearby waypoint by killing a few monsters and getting one level 74+ green, right? There's no reason not to waypoint because of the cost. There are always weak non-hostile animals near waypoints for you to gank and loot. Takes a couple minutes tops of actually playing the game to recover that waypoint cost.
Mounts are simply gimmicky bragging-right garbage mechanics with no use in GW2, compared to the games that already have them.

Because the first-world nations of this planet are populated with needy, entitled lazy fat-asses who can't ride a bicycle.
I NEED cars to get where I need to go, where I live. Riding a bike at 40 below isn't feasible. People who live in the city want cars because they don't want to walk 15 feet to the nearest bus station. They'd rather spend tens of thousands on that flashy Mercedes and another couple hundred a month on parking fees than the dollar-fifty for the bus fare, so they don't have to sit next to the unwashed masses.
Just like people in GW2 WANT to spend hundreds of gold on mounts to show them off and clog up the environment rather than kill a few creatures to recover waypoint costs, or simply WALK.
