If mounts were added to the game, I honestly would not care. I don't know why people are so strongly against mounts. I wouldn't use them. I don't want one. But if they were added, fine! Good for the people that DO want them and changes NOTHING about how I choose to play!

Exactly. As mounts would and should add nothing that's required. Unlike other games where the extra speed is necessary to achieve anything, more so within a group. Here you can WP instantly anyway. That is if it all the mount lovers actually want them for the right reasons, not just to go 200% faster.

Question, feedback or issue? Pm me!

This is the right frame of thinking. People complain "WAHH IT"LL RUIN MY IMMERSION WAHAAHH WAHH!" But hears the thing, your immersion really can't be that deep already since we constantly have people running around naked jumping without relent. We also suddenly have cauldrons that turn us into skeletons and moas. As long as mounts don't add a buff to ppl that own them, then you shouldn't be complaining. You don't want one? simple. don't use it.

I agree, but i'm kinda hoping that minipets will have more purpose after later updates. Fingers crossed. ;)

In GW1 they were just simple things that people would collect, yes some were worth an entire fortune but that's that.

I don't care either way about mounts. I've never really cared about mounts in any mmo really. The only one I liked mounts in was AoC but that was because of the animation and physics of using the mount.

If the mounts are only the same speed as swiftness then WP's will still be used the same amount

If we get mounts, we will not longer be able to utter the famed, "My kingdom for a horse!"

...... Oh we don't have kingdoms do we.  Never mind.

I think the way GW2 is set up mounts just wouldn't fit in ONLY because the way the world is setup.  Every zone is a square/rectangular instance with waypoints spread evenly across  the map.  If these instance borders were to be removed then mounts would make more sense since traveling is spaced out so much.

Also the ability to almost instantly teleport your character to the other side of the world kind of removes the purpose and convenience of having a mount.

Because spending 50s+ on Waypoints is stupid. (Yesterday doing Jumping Puzzles for January Achievement)

So because you don't understand that simply getting to the start of the JP counts, that each character's arrival at that location counts, and that it resets daily, it means that Anet's culpable for your expenditure of way too much silver to complete that achievement?

I got that achievement done for free 2 days into the month by sending my 5 characters to the three jumping puzzles in LIon's Arch daily. Something I already did considering the chance of rares and exotics from the two larger chests.

Yes, spending 50+ silver on waypoints is stupid. You're aware that you can recoup the costs of one nearby waypoint by killing a few monsters and getting one level 74+ green, right? There's no reason not to waypoint because of the cost. There are always weak non-hostile animals near waypoints for you to gank and loot. Takes a couple minutes tops of actually playing the game to recover that waypoint cost.

Mounts are simply gimmicky bragging-right garbage mechanics with no use in GW2, compared to the games that already have them.

Why do people want cars?

Because the first-world nations of this planet are populated with needy, entitled lazy fat-asses who can't ride a bicycle.

I NEED cars to get where I need to go, where I live. Riding a bike at 40 below isn't feasible. People who live in the city want cars because they don't want to walk 15 feet to the nearest bus station. They'd rather spend tens of thousands on that flashy Mercedes and another couple hundred a month on parking fees than the dollar-fifty for the bus fare, so they don't have to sit next to the unwashed masses.

Just like people in GW2 WANT to spend hundreds of gold on mounts to show them off and clog up the environment rather than kill a few creatures to recover waypoint costs, or simply WALK.

That's not true at all, really. Sure, there's a lot of things people could just bike to, but nowadays things are increasingly separated due to the fact that people are able to have such wide access to a car. With my car it takes about 15 minutes for me to get to work, but without a car it'd probably take me 45 minutes to an hour. It's less about being lazy and more about convenience in an increasingly connected world.

True. But that's why you NEED them. If you had teleporters, would you need a car?

And today's teleporters are public transportation. The bus. If you don't have a bus that takes you where you need to go, you NEED a car to get there if it's a long distance away. My reasoning stands. The title of the thread is why people want them. Because they simply don't NEED them.

I'd rather spend time in the world running from point to point, instead of just waypointing. But I was the type who'd jump on my mechano-hog or hawkstrider and run from one end of a continent to the other just for fun, sometimes mining and gathering as I went.

I don't need extra speed (though a small base % would be nice, but not more than what any class can regularly achieve), or flight. It's just restful cruising through the world without looking at my poor character running.

It also gives me more stuff to collect. I would rather spend gold on a mount I can keep (even if the price is high) than a waypoint.

I'm only in favor of mounts if they:
  • Cannot fly.
  • Are no faster than normal walking pace. Leeway here as many of the professions have a 25% IMS skill.
  • Are stashed if you take damage.

The broom mount already does this and hasn't broken the game, so I don't see why more can't be made.

Game isn't built for mounts.
Mounts aren't going to be added.
Broom, functionally, isn't a mount any more than a tonic is. It removes your skills and you move at the same speed.
Mounts would be a pain in the ass to program and develop, and since they wouldn't add anything to the game, they're not worth the effort. If they did provide a boost, the game would have to be adjusted accordingly in probably a lot of ways most of us would never think of.

And if they did add mounts, then I couldn't do my joke about "The mounts are rebelling in Harathi Hinterlands" anymore, and we simply can't have that!

And my personal opinion on mounts? I think they're stupid. Don't get why people want them. Saw a guy earlier in the thread go all "Every white knight has a stallion", blah blah, seeming to forget that GW2 is not medieval at all.

Oh yeah, and people complaining about waypoint fees can also stfu. If it's gimping your income that much, you're not using your brain enough. If something in an area can wait, leave it until you have a bunch of stuff to do in that area. There are tons of commanders, and people with T3 cultural, and legendaries, and so on. Clearly, if your income is that badly gimped by waypoints it's your fault.

Let's add mounts to the mystic toilet and have the drop rate of precursors weapons or higher. Lets see how many people would spend that much money to get a mount before they rage and make it soul bound on acquire. Lol  Yes, I'm evil.

Because mounts are in WoW and any other MMORPG that is viewed upon as the pinnacle of game design in terms of both content and gameplay. They want mounts so they can show everyone how absolutely amazing and awesome they are for having such a unique status symbol. These same people also love nothing more than standing around a main city with their oversized snowflake item so that everyone has to gaze upon their treasured atrocity whether they want to or not. They love to be in the spotlight and the desire of wanting something that further improves their imaginary wealth comes naturally.

I want mounts with increased speed that are limited to out-of-combat and not allowed in cities.

It would be a lot easier to travel around zones finding DEs. As it is currently, I just don't feel like wasting time looking for DEs that might not even be up.

Big misconception of GW2 that Golem aren't mounts.  Let's stick of what we have. They already clutter WvW and player's view with them. :P

on a better note, people wouldnt want mounts as bad, if it didnt cost so damn much to travel to WP's when your hit level 80...L.A to cursed shore=3.68 silver, and WP in Cursed Shore from that point=1.48silver(depending on exact distance for both prices), why it may not seem like much money..it is compared to lower level WP'ing, for my level 53 to map travel the same distance as my 2 level 80's, L.A to "blah blah": 53=67copper, 80=1.58silver. now as a mention to the D.A way above, it doesnt "gimp" my money, it's the fact of the matter!!

as for being for/against Mounts, i dont really care, unless WoW has them, if WoW has mounts, i dont want them in gw2, we already adopted WoW's red rings of death(1 shot kills if some 1 is to stupid/run out of evade to get out of the red ring), i just dont want anything that WoW fanboys will use as "they stole from WoW", i got nothing against WoW, just the idea of being a rip off copy for WoW(i personally believe there much to differentiate the two, but theres little things that can be compared)
