I asked GW2 support and they suggested that I ask around on the forums as it's something they allow but not support.

I have two GW2 accounts, I want to run both on my PC which will be easy as I have two monitors and a higher end gaming PC. I'm looking to RP/Socialize on one account while I'm out gathering or WvW/PvP'ing on the other one. Whenever I try to start the client twice or run the GW2 setup again it errors out.

While players are allowed to play Guild Wars 2 through multiple clients, this is not a configuration that we support. I would recommend checking out the official forums for any tips or workarounds presented by other players who multi-box with Guild Wars 2.

For Guildwars 1 there was a great multi-launch utility.  I haven't seen one for GW2.

I have a really old Laptop I'm debating to see if it still turns on to use for this but the chip isn't dual core(2.26 Dothan chip, 4GB of Ram and a GTX7800...yeah totally old school here).  RP isn't always a quick back and forth and at times it does take time.  In the back of my head I'm always thinking (while waiting for a response) that I could be out gathering or something at the same time.

Yeeeah, very uninformed Moderator there.

In other games multiboxing didn't require any special third party software and it is what got me hooked on buying two accounts when I play a game I like.  I enjoy RP'ing/socializing in a certain location in the game on my 2nd screen while I run around on my main screen gathering.  Or if it's a more intense conversation then I gather/craft on the 2nd monitor and RP/socialize on the main one.

It's possible that multiboxing is fine, but I wouldn't claim I was positive about something if I saw contradicting statements from support staff.

The issue in the "multiboxing" the Moderator commented on was the fact that it was used to control X amount of characters on different clients at the same time. The OP is just asking for a way to run multiple copies of GW2 on the same computer (which would be useful in many legitimate cases, such as the one he posted, checking if a Dragon has spawned, etc...), those are totally different cases.

The official forums aren't GW2Guru, yeah it's a technicality, I know. Those are the official forums: https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum . Anyways, the way you describe it, it is technically no different from using two computers at the same time. I'm not certain whether anet will tolerate it or not though, depends where they draw the line.

Anet's policies are meant to target players who automate an army of characters to use for farming or other game-breaking purposes. Yes, that is basically botting, in effect. Since that doesn't appear to be the OP's goal, its possible that Anet is willing to tolerate what he described—um, especially if NCSoft Support said so.

That said, I don't see the point of having to alt-tab to another Gw2.exe instance to chat/socialize when you could just chat on your main. And I don't care how powerful your PC is, you likely don't have much CPU overhead to do much of anything while in a WvW zerg, lest of all run a second game.

There were multiple utilities for this with GW1, as of yet I don't know of any for GW2.  You could likely run a second client in a VM (if your PC didn't melt from it), but that probably won't allow you to do what you want.

Yeah I already posted on the official forums but the thread went without a single reply.  So I thought, Hey, why not GW2Guru?
