Self Targeting

I really liked this though. In GW2 when you click on someone else, it shows a neat little picture, there title, guild, etc. I WANNA SEE MYSELF AS THAT. I grinded years in gw1 for GWAMM and your dang right I looked at my title whenever i got the chance. It was my for my own satisfaction. I dont care if others see it. But now only others can see. Before i finished 100% map I didnt know what the star beside someones name was for. I just assumed something for WvW. I finished map completion and a while later someone asked what my star meant. I HAVE A STAR????? I WANNA SEE MY STAR!!! I was so happy when i realized I could display my GWAMM title in gw2. I WANNA SEE IT. But the only thing I have is the knowledge that it is there.
Anyone else think being about to target yourself would be neat?

Get a friend to take screenshots of you targeted then send them to you.
Now you can just alt tab out to look at them whenever

It's a shame that we can see our own achievements when all this game is about doing them

I guess thats my only option for now! I'll just print them off and put them up beside my computer. That way I can look at them even when Im not playing! haha

We live in a world that is quite often about status and achievement. Or are you one of those people who just gets out of bed in the morning and doesn't shower or put on nice clothes... We do a lot of things in life to make ourselves feel good about ourselves, highlighting our own achievements and strengths is quite natural. It makes sense that in a game people want to be able to show off their own achievements - especially since the people all around them can appreciate them because they're taking part in the same world and understand the value.
But if you want to be a jerk then go ahead. This isn't about our self-ego stroking. It's just about being able to be proud of your own achievement. Being able to see that achievement is part of that process. It's why a lot of people frame their degree's and put them on their wall or desk. We like to be reminded of what we have accomplished.

You shouldn't need to host your name on screen if you already know what you've accomplished. It's incredibly shallow and insecure notion to "need" or want this. The game is already very visual in that you can see those who are more accomplished than others, just by armor and weapons they have. If you don't feel any satisfaction from your accomplishments unless you have your name plastered on it then you have some serious emotional issues. There are plenty of people who do great things and never get any acknowledgment, nor do they need it to be happy.

I guess every armor you are wearing should look the same to you too then. We could also have standardized character models, because only other people need to see your "real" character. Also, the player wielding a Legendary should of course only see a starter weapon, it would save FPS and there's really no point in seeing the Legendary since you already know you have it right?

You clearly don't know what false pride is. Self-targetting would only help those who want to see their own achievements. Said achievements can already be seen by everyone else. If you're going to spew such idiotic vitriol at least make sure you understand the terms you ask people to look up.

I like the little other thing in it though, this being skills that target players. Would add a bunch more to the game, though of course it could easily make the holy trinity reappear in some form. Still, with careful balance I think it'd be nice. In any case I want more skills in this game. I don't think there're too few, but I still want more

It was a bit dissapointing to see fixed skills, but that takes away people flaming others for their builds (as you can see in this thread people mad about someone wanting to see thier character as others see). Going from hundreds of skills at your disposal in gw1 to a lot less, but i love the traits system. Choosing the right set of traits to give you that bit of an edge in fights, and testing others.

Whenever you remove something from the original it'll make people a little edgy. The same thing happened with GTA IV when people complained that "you can't work out in the gym" or "you can't get a haircut" while in reality, people were pretty annoyed with working out in the gym because you had to constantly keep yourself at some level for maximum physical capacity... ok, the hairstyles were pretty neat... my Samuel L. Jackson from Pulp Fiction CJ was awesome.
