the camera shake can add to the experience if it is used sparingly for added effect. If it is constant then it becomes routine and adds nothing. Look, I'm a fan of what they are trying to do, it reminds me a lot of Vindictus. But the constant camera shake is a deal breaker for me. Hopefully by the time it gets here to the US they will have an option to turn it off.

i feel like this game has done a lot right that makes mmo attractive to play.
not sure about the story/lore, but these to look like the main heroes. i sense a lot of potential.

i'm not sure about the free-to-play model of this game, i rather buy a majority of the game-content straight from the box. and not worry about payments in game.

black desert intro

non-combat gameplay

combat video, no shaking effect

The only enormous problem I see that can potentially occur with the game is the fact that it may be gender locked. If this is the case, and I can't play a male Tamer for example, there is no way I will play this game. Sorry, but gender lock is a game breaker for me.

A game that I am looking forward to more than Black Desert, would be Bless Online.

supposedly they are fixing the gender lock or making it a non issue. But I read that from a user at Massively so I can't verify the truth of that.

Ugh, that camera is awful. You can't pull it back farther and get rid of the camera shake? I'm someone very sensitive to these things, so I can't imagine playing this if they don't fix these issues. Pretty game, but not worth it if it makes me sick.

All I know is that they are apparently adding two versions of each class, at least for most of them, a male version and a female version. I don't like this at all really. As with my previous example - I have seen the gameplay of the "female" tamer and I really like it, so if the male tamer is going to be a different version and a less enjoyable version, it is practically gender lock. This does not solve the problem for me.

I have been following this game for some time. This game looks next(current?) gen and from what I have seen and read, should be well worth the money.
GW2 had camera shake as well and it doesn't bother me at all. I am sure that they will have camera options that can alleviate your concerns.
I don't think these guys have a North American publisher yet(although they do have a Russian one) so it would be a while before NA/EU players can get their hands on the game.

question for all you folks following this game or any korean game for that matter, which publisher are considered great for korean games and why?

hmm, don't like that solution either. Not sure why games, especially mmos, have gender locked classes in the first place.

When they create very specific animations for one sex of the skeleton/model. They have to create and animate entirely different models and textures (for the armor) for the other gender. Or at least I think that one logical conclusion.

The fact that they didn't bother to fix the big amount of texture popping for their trailer speaks ill to me.

I don't think that it will do very well in the west at all.

Isn't most animations non-class-specific in GW2?

I think that class systems exists to add flavor and to soothe balance issues.

Um they already have them. Plantside 2.

I'd call that more of a tactical-first-person RTS sandbox.... I guess it's an FPS if you also consider COD to be an "FPS" (I don't). What I'd consider a real MMOFPS would be a reboot of Tribes where players could slowly but directly modify the landscape (and thus the "routes") but no developer I'm aware of can really be trusted to pull it off unfortunately. :(

Staying on topic though..... they all pretty much have the same exact problem, which is: once the Flashy Graphics cease to keep you immersed, the next step is the illusion of Progression. And once that starts to feel like a horrible grind too (hellloooo Ascended gear), the only thing that's left is your ability to affect other real players because there's no way in hell you can affect the actual landscape or the persistent world itself. So that's where the "player Freedom" inherent in the design and the combat too really comes into question. But mainly the freedom to keep doing things the designers didn't intend either. I think the only Asian game I've ever seen that even got close to stressing freedom like that was Shadow of the Colossus which I never even got to play. ....I'll probably never get to play (or even want to) this game either.

Uh hä? How is COD not an FPS? First Person Shooter. If that's not clear I don't know how to define genre's anymore. It's a bad FPS but it is one.

these are definitely the vocal minority of the bunch, they voice their opinion on trivial matters; being way too concerned about polished graphics, fancy trailers. probably the same consumers that are easily swayed by 'lip-service' from their game-developers into buying their sheit products.

what draws me into black desert is that they have showcased actual game mechanics that players on this forum drooled over, writing lengthy assessments wishing it would end up in their mmo of choice, but have not found any satisfaction as of yet.
black desert has showcased in these preview videos the game mechanics first, the fluidity of the game while still upholding the graphic allures. in this, i think black desert has hit that sweet spot.

when i take a look back at the games i played on the first generation playstation, its always the fluid in motion and response of the game-controls that speaks well to me. can you remember how games like tekken and tomb raider looked? polished graphics where secondary of importance.

when developers of black desert or developers of any game has to sacrifice the game fluid motion and game-control response for prettier graphics, then take it from me, they will end up with a sheit game. priority in development should go to mechanics and response first, content second and lastly graphics should look as awesome as possible without interfering with the first.

my fondest games in history all followed these rules: metal gear solid, home world, little big adventure, starcraft, mdk and tekken, tomb raider.

i'm already convinced about black desert mechanics, the only concern i have for black desert currently, because of the lack of information on it, is the way they will market their game as a free to play mmo and how they will present their story/lore/world and all of the game-content. the composition of the black desert development team would tell a lot more about the future direction of this game, if there is any known writer on their team that would ease my thoughts. if not, the company can always sell their engine...

So true. With today's advanced technics developers blend customers with pretty graphics that hide shitty gameplay in a lot of cases. And we are so far down this road that people blow up such trivial things like graphics or voice-acting as the most important things for a game. It's sad.
Anyways, for your questions. As far as I know they had contact with mutiple publishers for NA/EU but havn't decided yet. Atm. I don't see any remotely good publishers on the market I would trust. Trion Worlds already has ArcheAge and I'm rather concerned with how they operate (and XLGames turned the game into a shit grinder anyways) but there is still some hope. Other than that, hm. I was also under the impression that the guys behind Black Desert were Indie which is kind of confusing.

straight from the founder; the company 'pearl abyss' consist of a lot of veteran game programmers and developers.

Our company consists of a lot of veteran game programmers and developers so creating a new engine wasn't that hard. We needed a special engine just for Black Desert mainly because it is a seamless world and needed an engine that can render a lot of characters very fast and easy.

i'm sure most of you have played hide&seek as kids, but have you ever played hide&seek in pitch dark?
you haven't played hide&seek until you played it in pitch dark in the moonlight, i have fond memories of doing just that on the playground with neighbourhood friends as a child.
i even wrote gameplay ideas based on it with disciption of a certain atmosphere and tone and black desert just captured the right tone in this night time gameplay video.

in latest their character creation video they added a lot of new options, it is just insane amount of options:

That isn't what Indie means at all. Indie Studio's can be solely filled with veteran programmers and developers. What's important is that an Indie studio is independent from usual shareholders and publishers because the funding is either done by themselves or through crowd-funding or a combination of both. Thus publishing is mostly done by themselves with maybe some help from other plattforms like steam or gog to provide them to a bigger crowd. It's a bit confusing for me that they look out for a publisher for NA/EU but I guess it's because BD is a big game that need translation/translocation and foreign support.

so if they are looking for a publisher would you still consider a game company to be indie?

so far i know the game has already been translated to english, not sure about if the german language or spanish.
we can only speculate why they already found a publisher for russia, but not yet for the eu/na.

Well, that depends on the deal. If the publisher just handles the destribution and doesn't influence the game itself I would still consider them indie. If the publisher however would act in form of a translocation (changing the game in a way it fits western style better, even in the slightest way) I would not consider them as indie anymore.

I didn't know it was already translated in english btw. That's a good sign.

BDO is coming out tomorrow! Is anyone else playing?

My guild, PRX ( www.prx-guild.com ) is rolling on Edan. I'm playing a Sorcereress. I'm most excited for the siege and castle PvP. In our last game, ArcheAge, we've held a castle on Kyrios from the time they're available to now (15 months!) and had a lot of fun defending it. And we really miss all the fun we had in GW2! (for the old school folks here!)

My guild, PRX, is doing well. We were one of four groups to take a region in the first round of sieges and are totally pumped for the Valencia content.

For a game that is so limited it surely has a ridiculous CC, the game's been out for a while and the gender lock was a no go for me. But not only that, you've tons of ridiculous ways to edit them yet everyone ends up looking the same. You can only be a young curvy korean female, gorrila dude, generic handsome sword bro or gandalf for the most part. You can't even make gandalf young, if you wanna play male you're forced to be an unattractive 60+ year old fart. Very dissappointed with that. Not enough presets with variety and colours are very weird on the characters.

And since for a game where CC was such a huge thing it was a game breaker for me. I've heard good stuff about everything else but, I can't stand every goddamn ranger being a super curvy female elf, or every wizard being an old dude.
