Now, we've heard several statements from the dev team that Abaddon isn't coming back. I am inclined to believe that, since Kormir essentially stole his power and we obviously haven't seen any hints of Margonites.

What about Dhuum and Menzies? After all, the quest dialogue in Guild Wars 1 is extremely vague on whether Dhuum is killed or "forced into dormancy," and Menzies was never even encountered. That, and the existence of Godslost Swamp, makes me relatively positive that at least one will eventually show their face in Guild Wars 2. The Norn shaman you can find in a hut in Godslost even speaks of a "presence" that stayed behind when the gods departed, and Dhuum was known to have a very strong presence in the Underworld.

Is there any more information about their possible return ingame? And what would be the potential repercussions when they surface, especially in regards to the Elder Dragons?

I doubt the presence is Dhuum. The UW is apart of the mists, not Tyria alone. Menzies is the only one we haven't seen and yet is still there to cause problems as apart of some scheme or another.

Dhuum wasn't killed.

That presence, I believe, is in reference to all the Nightmares (Shades, Aatxes, Shadow Behemoth).

But I agree that Dhuum and Menzies is likely to return. There's a lot more evidence than simply that necromancer which implies such - the entire lore behind WvW (for as very very very little there is) as well as the appearance of Nightmares in Godslost, Blackroot Cut, and Reaper's Gate.

Even if it were them, Menzies is a half god (I thought?) and Dhumm has no more power than any of the other gods.
Was quite certain it's already been stated that the power of the Elder Dragons surpasses that of the power of the gods. So they wouldn't be altogether very much of a threat.

Part of the power the Necromancer senses is possibly that of the Veteran Fleshreaver stuck inside the book sitting right next to him?

I'd somewhat doubt we would have Menzies or Dhumm return, at least not for a very long time.
There are still 5 other Elder Dragons cavorting around the world, Cantha has other issues that would take precedence over two gods and Elona has both Kralk and Palawa Joko to deal with.

The word that was actually used is 'rivals'. That doesn't require surpassing, just to be close enough to be a credible threat.

ArenaNet did a lot of talking up of the Elder Dragons, but nothing they've said actually pigeon-holes rogue gods into being less of a threat then the dragons.

I believe the creatures of the Underworld are mindless gatekeepers and seeing as Grenth has left them they have nothing to follow making them incredibly hostile. Any instability might be seen as a threat and they'll attack and destroy anything they come in contact with. This "presence" is simply small cracks between dimensions or thin walls between them that could easily be cracked.

Whether these gods will come back or not, I cannot say for sure, though I find it highly unlikely. Arenanet has five more dragons to properly introduce, and I believe they're top priority of this pact that our characters so support.

Aatxes and shades are "nightmares" which are natural, always hostile, inhabitants of the Underworld. At least they're hostile to the living. And they're drawn to the living world too. Nightmares appear to be souls of the dead with hostile emotions in them, based on some GW1 quests. They're even hostile while the Underworld is under control in GW1.

And they are not really mindless given how jubilant they are that they can finally witness the end of Tyria - being there to witness its birth as well.
