I decided it would be fun to have a thread wherein we can all share what has inspired us to create all the awesome looks we have made for our characters. :) The idea is to post a "reference" photo to show what has inspired you to make your current appearance. I'll begin:

My latest look is loosely "Samurai"-inspired.

Go on, post yours! We'd love to see them. :D

Thank you for sharing, those are impressive / hilarious! My favorite is the lil' storm trooper Asura, I believe he posted on this forum too.

Note:
Anyone may post their inspiration on this thread! It can be an attempted "copy" or "cosplay" of famous characters or simply something that inspired you to create your look - like say, a flower. Or a bell. Or a piece of candy.

I'm loving this concept. I bought the shoulders but I'm putting my own spin on it. The Kodan legs give me that Samurai-Gladiator sort of look that I'm really enjoying.

Here are some of mine - really dorky, I admit

Some one asked if it was possible to make a "dwarf looking character"......
Posted Image

Some one on a different forum wanted to know if one could make a "traditional wizard robe".....

Posted Image

I found a recipe for a "wooden sword" and just had to make a 12 year old who could kill a dragon with a toy weapon  Shoes are t1 medium  human which look like tennis shoes in white and ebony.  Karma pants dyed denim look like jeans.  I don't like the jacket but it was the only male jacket I could find that didn't look like a trenchcoat.

Posted Image

I apologize deeply for this one.... Pebbles Flintsone all grown up....

Posted Image

And to fit with the Darth Vaders and the mini-stormtroopers, here is the closest I could get to a Jedi Cat

Oooh nice work Crantson! My favorite one is the "traditional wizard" look, the gnarled walking stick suits it perfectly. Also, that mug on the "dwarf" is a laugh - I love it. :D

Never actually did play FF13 at all, but I somewhat based my Assassin's outfit off this character. Kinda...

My inspiration here was the fur color combination of the Guild Wars 1 charr shamans. They had brown fur with lighter brown color on the face, and darker brown spots. Their manes contrasted with their fur because they were orange or red. This character is intended to be the child of a shaman, and I wanted her fur style to reflect that.

After seeing some posts here, and on the official forums for awesome recreations such as Dr Who, Stormtroopers, Darth Vader, Roman Legionnaire and others, I thought might be good to put together a comprehensive guide on recreating these icons in GW2. Posting a character shot, then a recreation you made in GW2 of the person your emulating and a quick summary of what you used.

Mine is Nightmare, from Soul calibur 2 specifically. Heres the pic

Posted Image
And the recreation in GW2

Posted Image

Uses Dark Helm, Pitfighter Shoulder, Orrian Gauntlets, Nobleman's Breastplate, Heritage Legs, and Boots. Wielding Nightmare sword.

Anyone has a suggestion to make it better please let me know. Interested to see what others come up with. Will also try to posts others I find with credit to those that created them.

Wow, nicely done! That helmet you used is pretty much perfect.

Here's my attempt at a Marvel superhero. I actually posted images of my toon in another thread but with a different color scheme, so I tweaked the colors and ended up with a female version of Flash:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Armor I used: Norn T2 helmet, T2 gauntlets, T2 boots, Whispers chestpiece, Dark leggings. The shoulders are hidden. I was thinking of using the guild chestpiece, but unfortunately there's no guild logo that resembles a lightning bolt (afaik).

Now that I think about it, the helmet I used would be perfect for a "Lady Thor." I just wish there were capes available, lol.

But yeah, both of these are awesome.

Thanks! And before I forget, here's something else I came up with.

Posted Image

Posted Image

I could only do it in preview because I don't actually have a female human character with light armor to freely experiment with - I had to create an alt for the image above. For the same reason, the dyes aren't the greatest. Dye previewing is limited so I worked with what I had.

Armor used: Stately helm, Magician coat, Acolyte gloves, Student's mantle, Orrian leggings, and (almost) anything for the boots.

It's a very good try but she's way too dark to be Zelda :P Haha.

I should mention there's a cosplay guild on Blackgate. It's called Fighting Crime With Sailor Moon [Moon]
One of them is in my guild, I'll get a screenshot next time she's on.
(There's even someone who is cosplaying as princess Zelda, too, though I think that person has pulled it off slightly better than you, Tien. =P I'll get a screenshot of Zelda next time I see them, if I remember.

There is someone I've seen on FA called Zailor Moon who has the Sailor Moon outfit as well.  Haven't seen her in a while but it is definitely a good recreation.
