I need obsidian shard, so would be great if there could be a server where balthazar is always open.

If you're not yet aware, the Orrian jewelry box things drop shards, so no dependence on that only.

Folks, please do NOT waste a vote on Jade Quarry (not that you would). It's a full T1 WvW server. Just a heads up. In addition, Blackgate, Sea of Sorrows and Sanctum of Rall are also heavy WvW.

SoR is definitely a heavy WvW server, but at the same time we seem to have a decent spread of people in PvE as well.  During normal NA play-times there does not seem to be much of a shortage of people in PvE, outside of a few mid-level areas.  At least that's been my and my guildies experience with it, which may or may not actually represent what is going on, but its possible.

The major problem with this dual poll is that EU players don't give a fig about what US to pick and vice versa.
However, you HAVE to vote for both, NA and EU.

So there might be quite a few random votes on both sides.

really should just list servers that are never full, that would help.....

Im on stormbluff and wont be changing servers anytime soon, thing I like is, any time I login, there are people in whatever zone I happen to be in, no dead zones....unlike a few other servers I played in where the only thing in some zones with me where bots collecting resources or doing the same loops over and over.

On the contrary. For the most part it's already a dedicated WvW server. We just had a large influx of guilds solely for that purpose.

I think we do have a decent spread too. Just take a look at the Gaiscioch Family [GSCH], one of sor's largest guilds that participates in wvw. They do a lot of different pve events with the whole community and are even doing this 6 month long pve thing that is giving out various rewards and that Anet has even donated some stuff to.

So here is the list of all NA servers with the lowest populations (high), the tier of WvW that they're in, and their placement within that tier.

T8 1st -- Sorrow's Furnace
T2 3rd -- Stormbluff Isle
T8 2nd -- Ferguson's Crossing
T4 3rd -- Crystal Desert
T6 3rd -- Northern Shiverpeaks
T6 1st -- Borlis Pass
T5 1st -- Ehmry Bay
T8 3rd -- Eredon Terrace
T4 1st -- Kaineng
T5 2nd -- Devona's Rest
T7 2nd -- Henge of Denravi

I deleted the servers in the next list that are successful within in their respective WvW tiers, and removed SF because I’ve heard that it’s the unofficial Spanish server. What I believe the candidates for this should be are:

T8 2nd -- Ferguson's Crossing
T8 3rd -- Eredon Terrace
T7 2nd -- Henge of Denravi
T6 3rd -- Northern Shiverpeaks
T5 2nd -- Devona's Rest
T4 3rd -- Crystal Desert    (recently lost many players but had/has decent PvE pop, could be removed from the list)
T2 3rd -- Stormbluff Isle    (recently lost many players)

Here are the medium pop servers for Europe:

Arborstone [FR]
Fissure of Woe
Whiteside Ridge
Gunnar's Hold
Ruins of Surmia
Dzagonur [DE]
Fort Ranik [FR]
Piken Sqaure
Miller's Sound [DE]
Vabbi

And after doing the same as I did with the second list:

Fissure of Woe
Ruins of Surmia
Piken Sqaure
Vabbi

I've found Yak's Bend is an awesome server without guesting. The people there are friendly and helpful and they populate the entire world. It was the original GW2Guru server and it's not a particularly powerful WvW server, so most of the people on it are PvE players who dabble in WvW.

Personally I don't like the idea of having a PvE guesting server. It makese sense for people who are on servers with little to no PvE population, but from my experience, there are plenty of servers which have a strong native population. To syphon those people off into specific guesting servers, is simply going to hurt the native players on that server who don't know to guest there. You're hurting your own server by doing this. Personally I'd rather ArenaNet get rid of native PvE servers and make the explorable world overlflows that fill and empty as players come and ago, this guarantees no matter where you are, you will always have a healthy number of people around you. The server nonsense is just allowing WvW to reduce the quality of the PvE experience.

Make the poll so that you don't have to vote in both. I have to vote for something in EU but I have absolutely no clue/preference of what's going on there, thereby diluting the real results.

Also... only 2 Vote Categories don't really fit EU Servers. You'd need three, one for english, one for french, one for german.
I'd suggest. But I don't feel the need of doing that, my new home server Abaddons Mouth seems to be populated enough, even in the starter zones. Maybe that will become less once I get to the mid-semiHigh Levels, we'll see.

I think we should go for a high populated server for this. Imo the whole point of this is to fill up the zones more so we can actually do massive open world pve like we did in beta and early after release.

I got no clue about US servers, but I think the best server choice at the moment for EU seems to be Gandarra, Underworld or Desolation. We just have to make a decision and it has to be known widely so we get massive world PVE again. :)

EDIT: A little offtopic, but I think that ArenaNet should just drop the whole server thing for PVE. The old GW2 GW1 system seems a lot better. One big server, with (overflow) shards. This seems the idea of elder scrolls online as well and I think it would work really well for GW2 PVE. You can still keep the servers for WvW as they are.

A few months ago someone also had an idea he called "underflow servers" where servers get merged in low populated areas to keep up player numbers for world events. I really liked that idea as well.

So how exactly do overflow servers work?  I've never paid close attention when being dropped in one.

Say a zone in Server A fills up.  Do all new players on that server who enter that zone get randomly assigned an overflow server, getting distributed throughout all the other servers?  Or do all players get moved to Server B until it fills up and needs to send people to overflow?

yeah, looks like it was way too many choices.

I think we need 1 thread for each region, and bring the choices down to 3 each.

poll for US.

-Anvil Rock
-Isle of Janthir
-Jade Quarry

Poll for EU

-Gandara
-Gunners Hold
-Underworld

this would avoid such a spread of votes.
(And the population of servers doesn't really matter, the point is to fill those maps up)

Hopefully a mod can make the 2 new threads.

I never said thats the majority of the gw2 population.
And it doesn't matter what server we pick, as long as 1 is chosen.
And I'm on Blackgate, before someone says i picked my own server.

The more people hear that there is an unofficial server that th community is using, the more will simply use it without ever voting here. Much like the choice of Oceanic servers in MMOs are they are rarely catered for. The community picks one and eventually most players will end up there.

Folks would be welcome on Underworld. We're not all that populated, from what Ive seen at peak times at least, and with characters ranging from lvl3 to 80. Theres usually only a handful in each zone. If that would make it easier for guesting and cause less overflow then go for it. The more the merrier ey?

^What he said is very true.

Our native population is decent. I've been wandering around a lot of the "dead" zones lately, and I usually see several players show up whenever I post events in map chat. For the most part, people want to play together.

Overflow servers are extra servers where everyone (from any server) who cant fit on his home server will go and if that overflow server is full they will make another overflow server.

I voted for my home Server. Ring of Fire. We're on rank 24 in wvw and we completely suck in this round, so we will get even worse xD

The server population is high, but the actual population is pretty low imho. I think this is, because it's one of the servers, that where available at launch, so a lot of people will be inactive, but still have this server chosen as home world. It's not even hard to get into the real LA (not the overflow).

No, it's up to the community to make the threads & then report them if they want stickies instead of asking for them in the thread itself. :)

Jade Quarry is a bad choice. It's already full to the brim and known as a predominantly WvW server. It would cost you 1800 gems to stay up until the wee hours of the morning hoping our overseas WvW populations forget to log on so you may have a window to enter. We recruited heavily in all time zones globally and had to orchestrate "blackout" periods numerous times over a week or so to get people from those guilds in (blackout = coordinated logging out of the majority of the WvW crowd to try and push it from Full to Very High).  There will not be blackouts done for PvE stragglers, this is a simple fact.

Okay, read a bit more on it.  I was under the impression that overflow servers were just other normal servers where you are put until you can be pulled back.

So, if overflow servers are opened up as worlds get filled, why would the unofficial PVE server have to be one that won't go to overflow?

Wouldn't it make sense to pick the most populated server, and if it gets full you get moved to overflow, but so does everyone else, so overflow should fill up as well?
