What about those of us who enjoy unicorns and DARKNESS?! I want evil unicorns shooting from my weapon!

But no seriously I am in love with the quip...I know others may not enjoy it, but it shoots confetti. My mesmer would die happy, but alas I'm way too lazy to make a legendary.

If they came up with some vampire/gothic themed armor and weapons I'd stop being so lazy.

Cry harder. Please your tears fuel the unicorns! *Some friendly advice stop being so homophobic.*

Wait...so claiming that I don't want a weapon that doesn't match the atmosphere of the game, and which only exists to pander to those who live a lifestyle centered around rainbows and unicorns (yes, that's what this does. I was OK with the dreamer before they multiplied the effect by over 9000) makes me homophobic?

That makes no sense at all.

How did I miss this gem. Clearly gay men and women and teen girls by and large love rainbows and unicorns. Clearly...

Yes, clearly.

And since more than one person claims that critics of it are "taking offense" to the Dreamer...I won't bother quoting. It's not about taking offense. It's about not being at all interested in having it. And since my thief is my #1 character, it would make sense that its primary weapon be the choice of legendary. That primary weapon would be shortbow. I have no interest in the current shortbow Legendary. I wanted to go for a legendary. Not any more. Sure, I can go for it on another character, but if I don't end up playing that character primarily, that legendary is a waste. So instead, I'm practically forced to settle for "lesser" exotics, which will eventually have less-than-max stats when ascended weapons are released. I guess then I'll have to transmute the Wintersbark I'm now working towards to an Ascended weapon. Oh wait, what if that Ascended weapon also has a nice skin? Now I have a conflict.

The legendary should have been skinned appropriate for the environment of the game. The Dreamer's effects should be relegated to party favor items.

Lol it doesn't match the atmosphere of this game? We must be in two totally different games. The fact that you think anyone's "lifestyle" is solely centered around unicorns and rainbows only ensures me that you are insane. Please keep trying to tell me how you are so not homophobic. I'll completely believe you.

Fyi no one is forcing this EVIL UNICORN RAINBOW LOVING BOW FROM HELL on you. You may simply *not* get it. I know insanely hard to do, but please try.

Just to add in...

I play a Warrior...I don't particularly care for ANY of the Legendary Sword skins...and really, that's all they are...a skin and bragging rights...whoopitty - doooooo...:)

I'm good with my Jotun Sword...I'll just transmute it up to a max exotic stats and roll on.

Anyone that likes the Dreamer, have at it, and enjoy...I also play a Ranger...so far not liking the Legendary Bows either, so I'll be passing on those...though I do like the Pirate Bow from the Ghost Karma Vendor outside that Jump Puzzle in LA.

Its your game, enjoy what you like...who am I to criticize...:)

Haha, there is a lot of criticism about those unicorns. I presonally find them amusing and belive is something that fits the game, we need more silliness from time to time. Guild Wars 2 isn't exactly a dark fantasy game.

While i play thief, this weapon will not suit the character i created and i will not go for it, but Arena Net said that they will add more Legendaries , so no worries folks, you will get a cookie too :P

b.t.w. i dig up this screenshot from forums (rofl) who would have guessed that Voxdeus guessed right :D Posted Image

I have no idea what they were thinking when they added shooting unicorns to the legendary shortbow.  They totally screwed that weapon now and I feel sorry for anyone that put in the time and effort to create one and are now stuck with crap.  I was partied with a guy yesterday that had one and it was annoying not only for him, but everyone else as well.

Second of all, the Bifrost is one of the cooler Legendaries

Initially I didn't like the rainbow-ishness on the Bifrost, but now, I think I may go for that as a 2nd Legendary..........if I try for one.

I would point out that Bifrost--for those who are unfamiliar--does come from Norse mythology, and was a rainbow bridge.  So the design is appropriate to its name.

I may even consider going for it first.....if a precursor falls into my lap. :)

Um, I'm sorry, but Tyria is wracked with war, death, destruction, we're fighting dragons, Zhaitan and his armies of UNDEAD in a land tainted by corruption and poison.

Yeah, it's pretty dark. I personally see no place for unicorns and rainbows. It just doesn't fit.

Its also a world where mesmers have *ing butterflies as their magic effect. Every female looks like a barbie doll. Every male a ken doll. You have toons that are named "Queen awesomepants" while wearing basically a bathing suit to fight said evil dragons in. *Hint Hint* A video game isn't a realistic representation of anything. This game oozes satire all over the place. Perhaps you should pay more attention. I mean have you SEEN ORR? Some areas look like the little mermaid puked up glitter. Btw I'm willing to bet there have been rainbows over a battlefield at some point in history. Even death and destruction wants something pretty to look at from time to time.

How you choose to build your character has no bearing on my take on the game.

Mesmer butterflies are more akin to a delusion or hallucination. Mesmer. Derp. Thieves don't sprinkle pixie dust over their victims. Rangers...dunno. Some of them are pretty damn hippy...I'm guessing some mushrooms could be ingested on occasion.

And rainbows over a battlefield is one thing, my little pony characters prancing across the battlefield is completely different. Once more: I'm not in opposition to Bifrost. I wasn't in opposition to the Dreamer pre-update. But the unicorns are too much. And I'm not the only one who sees this. Stop making excuses for an obviously ridiculous result of weeks or months of pure grind producing something that belongs in my daughter's games.

As for places in orr that are extravagant...um, ruins of an ancient magical city. Note: ruins. That mermaid glitter is covered in rotting ooze and slime.

Then it should have no barring on how you view the game either! If I choose to have unicorn short bow...it won't effect you any less than my character fighting a dragon in a bathing suit. Cool beans for that logic that proved my point.

Are you actually going to bring up an argument that actually proves that there is no room for unicorns or rainbows in this super serious game? Your opinion is it doesn't fit. I rebutted that with why I feel it does fit within the game. Please focus on that. There is no excuse. I've literally never SEEN this legendary in game. I don't care. It doesn't matter to me because what other people do to their characters doesn't change my feelings on the game. Which most people here know is iffy at best. I'm simply asking you to actually provide an argument as to why we can't have this in the game. Yeah, it doesn't look like ooze and slime to me. Since we have magical ancient cities why can't we have magical bows that shoot out unicorns? Oh wait.

If you've never seen it, then you don't realize how ridiculous it actually is. Once you see someone toss out a million unicorns shitting rainbows you might have a change of heart. And as mentioned above...the Anet logo on the hindquarters is practically a dead giveaway that it's there for the bronies.

I saw the video (just never in game) and it is ridic, but it still doesn't change my opinion. Once again who cares if its there for the bronies? What difference does that make? I'm all for more options in skins. I just don't see the reason to have such a hatred for something that doesn't affect you in the slightest. It does seem like you just hate it because OMG GAY QUEER! WOMANLY GIRLY THING. Which makes you look like a homophobic misogynist ass. If you don't like it simply don't obtain it. There are other weapon skins for short bow. As for others having it? I'm going to bet you won't meet many. I think you'll be fine.

You said yourself that me saying that the Dreamer doesn't belong as-is in GW2 is an opinion. What, so only your opinions are allowed? I've made my opinion known, I've given my reasoning. I'm not going to convince everyone that my opinion is most valid. I never expected to. I'm well aware that the gaming community has its share of girls, gays and bronies. I accept that and don't claim that they shouldn't play the game. But why should I be forced to see it if someone walks up in the MMO environment with it and starts shooting that champ I'm fighting? Am I supposed to walk away from the champ so I don't have to see it?

There should at least be an option to disable specific weapons from being displayed on my screen. Then you can have your lame-ass Brony wank machine.

There are at least four on my server alone. I've fractal'd with another two. One is more than enough. Who are you to say that I shouldn't care about it? At least before, the effects were suppressed a bit so you really have to be paying attention. But now if I'm in a fight and someone is plinking from behind me with it, I have nothign but unicorns and rainbows all over my screen.

And hey, you can have your opinion that I'm homophobic. I know the truth. But that's no reason for a game producer to force its views on the playerbase. I'm fine playing a sylvari despite the rampant homosexual overtones. I even play all female characters. I'm quite secure in my sexuality. It's not about sexuality. it's about the principle of introducing items that are distinctly outside the realm of anything believable in the video game environment. NOTHING ELSE in the game, not even the box o' fun and various costumes, comes close to being that ridiculous. There's no problem in giving a nod to those of alternate lifestyles. But to make it so blatant and unmistakable is just out of line.

As for being mysoginist...I might give you that. I feel that things meant for women and children are no place for men. But that's besides the point

You do know that there is an entire profession that revolves around shooting pink lasers and blowing up into pink butterflies. So yeah, there's definitely some flamboyance in Tyria.

I mentioned that. Again, the pink lasers and butterflies are delusions brought on by the Mesmer's mind-altering abilities. They have a function that's explained. The simple fact that those are the symbols used to demonstrate the abilities of a mesmer to play tricks on the mind tells me that the images that a mesmer displays are not naturally occurring.

And in that case, every shot of the Dreamer should inflict Confusion. ON every character nearby.

To play Devil's Advocate here, whether or not the change to The Dreamer is "good" or "bad" is besides the point. I simply don't think that ANet should've made such a drastic change to an existing legendary, because the people that crafted it did so on it's previous look and feel, and to have that changed so significantly is unfair when you consider that the owner might've spent months obtaining it.

It's one thing to add footfall effects, or weapon trails. But this changes the feel of the weapon itself. It'd be like crafting Sunrise, only to have ANet modify it such that every swing summoned a fire elemental that exploded on impact. It's like a bait-and-switch.

I agreed with you up to the point of footfall effects and weapon trails. How significant a change in that is is dependent on the player. Just because they might not be as pronounced doesn't mean someone may not feel as strongly about it. Should they not be accommodated with those who detest the unicorn arrows?

The logistics of adding some kind of "switch" for each effect/combination of effects on a legendary when it's updated would be too much (not everyone will like or dislike each new added effect). If the ultimate solution is to not change the legendaries, then we are back to the problem of players complaining that some don't have enough visual effects to warrant their status as a legendary.
