Dayem! Didn't see this coming at all. The implications will be interesting to watch play out as things settle in.

Lol. I think there may be a few servers thinking this right now. Still, if things continue as is, JQ will enter next week's match as the #1 server, with the same 1500 rating as ET heh.

Stuff we've been used to for months is gonna get weird for awhile.

About time. They should have done this when TA split.

This should make it less painful for the servers whose rats left their sinking ships.

This is a great idea. Long overdue.

The only potential problem I see with this is high powered servers beating up on lowly servers in the first few weeks.

BUT, it will allow the fading servers to find their level of competitiveness more quickly.

Plus, it will save SoS from going to T2 to face Kaineng.  :)

I think this will hurt server match ups more than it will help.

Its going to push servers to Tier 1, that haven't earned it, and create blow out matches for the current Tier 1 servers.

Unless their "new math" accounts for blow outs and only allows servers to jump one Tier at a time, I see SoS and JQ being pushed out of Tier 1 within the first or second week.

It should be Daily matchups next week. Otherwise we are gonna have aberrations like Gunnars Hold, a T7 server roflstomping their tier atm, being N1 in Europe.

Appart from this I think It was needed to reset the league.

Nobody on SoS is worried about facing Kaineng. They are nothing more than Maguuma and Dragonbrand and how they vaulted to the upper Tiers as quickly as Kaineng has....then hit the proverbial brick wall. It's called "Welcome to the big leagues."

my 6 days on kaineng has taught me one thing they are no where near ready for tier 2 and will be lucky to win in tier 3.it is a mess when none of the bigger guilds are on especially wm and while im writing this kaineng is getting owned by both yaks and cd on eb and the funny thing is cd has the outmanned buff.

This is something that needed to happen. Anet finally realized the flaws behind their math, they will also be changing how the glicko is calculated, the underlying math.

edit;
Thanks Anet for finally reacting and attempting to fix the math behind your system, even if its long overdue. Now hopefully they make the system better.

Sorry JQ, but with this new system Kaineng will be ranked the #1 US server in 2 weeks (assuming they get the biggest winning margin of any of the servers in any matchup next week).

JQ may not even be in T1...

The best servers will rise to the top after a few weeks. Ratings needed to be reset with the massive amounts of population that has moved lately and inflated ratings servers have built up. They are also changing the underlying math in their ratings system, we also have to see how that turns out. It could potentially fix many of the problems that we've all seen over the past few months. We'll see in a couple weeks.

Also Anet has the internal numbers, I am sure they have much better info on how big the population shifts were in the past 2 weeks and I'd bet they were massive finally forcing Anet to react to fix the ratings/glicko.

my guess for T1 in 2 weeks

Kaineng
EB
SF

As they'll win their tiers by the most.

JQ will move to T2 or T3 even if you win T1 next week as you won't win by enough.

If we get SoR and BG, we would probably win by a big enough margin to be a contender for Tier 1, but SoS is hanging in there. :)

I think the match between SoS, JQ, and SoR will be so close that we will all drop down to the mid tiers as the lower ranked teams get blowouts.
Expect a lot of QQ from everyone as they end up facing one or two of us for the first couple of weeks.

It will be messy for at least a month.

Oh, I see what you guys are saying.

  I misinterpreted the prognostications.

The first month won't mean much of anything after reset. It;s going to take about a month for servers to find their level of competitiveness.

Even if the T1 servers, JQ or any other, fall because the Kainengs benefit from mismatches, it won't make any difference at all because the T1's will work their way back to the top, presumably.

I suppose it could happen that all the T1 type servers could find themselves facing off in mid tiers and sort of prevent each other from rising in rank for awhile.

   But who cares?

If T1 servers are all facing off against one another, who gives a crap whether it is in T1 or T4? It's the same battle.

Eventually one of them would get swapped out for a weaker server, and the remaining two would just devour the weaker server and move up anyway.

The way I see it, February is just pre-season.

Regular season won't begin until March.

Playing on Sorrow's Furnace, this is my concern.  We are kind of starting to work together more in WvW and i am worried that the first few weeks are going to crush our newly repaired moral.

My reading of it is that everyone in T1 will be OUT of T1 if it's a close match. It will take about 3 to 4 weeks to get back to anything resembling normal.

Contrary to what a FEW SoS players have posted, JQ would absolutely LOVE a little change of pace.

It goes to show you that SOME on SoS is so absorbed with score and rating that they think another server will be angry about a reset. We all WANT this. We've never cared about the stupid score or rating except as it pertains to staying competative against servers that can give us a good fight.

Laughing thinking about how we'll react? Pffft. You care too much...

I think you are all missing out that a month or two is a LONG LONG time of boring matchups for most of us.

What are the players of big T1 servers gonna do after their matchup is decided in 1 day and they got a full week ahead of boring PvDoors, no opossition or good fights?

I really think the reset was needed but imo, they should really find a faster solution for positioning servers.

Daily matchups for a week with no gliko2 score or something like that, just to position servers more or less on their rightful tiers could be a solution. Im sure there can be better and faster ways of doing this.

You'd be surprised.

Some folks love PvDoor and they are on every servers.

Some folks (like me) will solo or small group to find fair fights.

Some folks will actually organize GvG stuff between servers.

Some folks will run training (SoS for instance).

Some folks will farm badges.

I don't think it will be as boring as all that if people have a mind to do things different for a few weeks.

Plus, if any HUGE imbalances show up, a blow out will move the big bad server out of range in a week.

By the third week, it will have some actual entertainment as far as importance of opponent. It won't be as bad as all that. Might even stabilize more than you think with two T1 size servers fighting in a lower ranks, with a T5 size server playing foil to get as many points as possible.

Let's all get past the first actual week of it before calling it one way or another...

how I see it playing out:
-week 1: absolute chaos, lower tier servers completely demoralized by getting paired with a t1/2/3 server and getting roflstomped.  doubtful any really good matchups are had.
-week 2: starting to smooth out a bit, still some bad pairings as the formerly t1/2 servers that got shot down to t7/8 work their way up.
-week 3: more or less stabilized, maybe a few servers that got shot down really bad still working their way up
-week 4: essentially back to where we are now

T3 matchups have been fun for quite a while now, and honestly I'm not too happy that this is happening.

Assuming you mean "competitive" fights, then I concur.

You can always find fights if there are only 20 of you and 200 of each of the other guys.

This may hurt a bit and create some silly match ups at the outset, but I still think it is the right thing to do.  WvW with free transfers is kind of a joke to begin with.  This is more like the proper, or at least, the closest thing we will ever get to a proper beginning after months of free transfer craziness.
