Official trailer

Plot

Posted Image
The game takes place in a fantasy world where vast labyrinths and catacombs lie beneath civilization. Magic-users seeking a legendary treasure known as the "Dragon's Crown" have used their sorcery to link each of the ruins together in order to search for it, which they plan to use for a sinister purpose. Players must take up the role of one of six adventurers to keep the crown out of their hands, as well as search for treasure of their own.

Playable characters

The class system is divided into six playable classes which are detailed below. Developers claim that you can create a very "unique character" as your character will be very customizable. The title features branching paths in every level which are traveled based on the player's decisions during gameplay, such as choosing to steal an item from a boss character, running instead of engaging an enemy, or searching for secrets, which will lead to alternate areas.

The game features an online mode over Sony's PSN which allows up to 4 players to experience the game simultaneously. When a player's character runs out of lives during online play, another player may gather their bones to trade into special merchant characters who can bring that character back as an AI-controlled partner. Players may also communicate using an in-game pop-up system which can quickly convey simple messages such as "thank you" to another person. PS3 and Vita players can crossplay, between platforms in the online mode, and both games will feel identical in terms of graphics, framerate, etc.

Fighter____________________________

An expert in battle, outfitted with full-plate armor and a sturdy shield. Boasting the stoutest defence of all classes, their shields can guard all allies in the nearby area.
Their one-handed weapons have little reach, but they can swing them in the blink of an eye, slicing through nearby foes like a tornado.
This god-like speed overwhelms enemies even in bare-handed combat. Easy to use for beginners, they are the keystone for any party, boasting reliable skill in all categories.

Posted Image

Amazon____________________________
Fearless warriors who know no fear as they effortlessly wield their two-handed weapons. Their massive equipment delivers slow, blunt blows that deal lethal damage to multiple foes at once. Lightly armored, they are agile fighters who rely on punishing kicks when unarmed.
Their speed and attack power grow with every enemy they slice and dice, but their defense is weak. Overall, a technical class suited for action gamers and those who value offense above all else.

Posted Image

Elf____________________________
A long-lived forest race, often much older than they would seem to human eyes. While delicate and weak of muscle, they are master of the bow and arrow, using their superior athletic skill to fight fearlessly from a distance.
They also wield a variety of special skills, making them all-around assets who can respond nimbly to any situation. A tricky class to wield, they are best for those who enjoy taking the time to learn all their idiosyncrasies.

Posted Image

Dwarf____________________________
Stocky fighters whose uscular frames permit them to wield a weapon in each hand. Their strength lets them pick up and throw anything in sight, even heavy foes.
Throwing enemies lets them damage multiple foes with one fling, laying waste to an entire horde of adversaries. However, their legs are slow and they are easily outfoxed and surrounded.
Their low defences also makes fighting skill very important for this intermediate class, good for those who like throwing their weight around.

Posted Image

Wizard____________________________
Male magicians who have a wealth of magic at their beck and call. Unable to reist monsters by force, they instead rely on the astonishing effects of their spells, all vital assets for any adventure.
Their incantations can lay waste to large swaths of land, but casting them takes time and consumes a great deal of magic power. They deliver the most punishing attacks of any class, making them the main arsenal of the party.

Posted Image

Sorceress____________________________
Bewitching women with knowledge of dark magic. They are weak of body, but the great knowledge they wield of the evil arts cannot be ignored.
While not as powerful on offense as wizards, sorceresses can craft lifesaving potions, control golems and skeletons, and even turn great foes into harmless frogs.
A jack-of-all-trades support class, they can provide aid to their friends in countless ways.

o.o umm.

No thank you. The style screams "lets abuse the representation of the female body to make a decent amount of money without too much effort."

THIS!
Although I'm waiting for some good games on the Vita...this just looks a little bit over the top..what are they? Tripple F? what? A little bit too much if you ask me.

As much as I agree, and as sad as this may be viewed by some people, this is precisely the case in movies, tv shows, games, commercials...sex appeal sells, has, and will continue to. Do I support this tactic, no not entirely (tomb raider was hot lol), but it is what it is to be as cliche as possible.

Breaking news to the land of Gaming!

Breasts don't work like that. Muscles don't work like that. The archer is cute though.

NOW I understand the thread's title xD

Oh god, the art stlye is awful. I mean, I'm not the biggest fan of this anime-ish stuff anyway, but this takes the cake. Who ever was the artist on this one, should take some drawing humans 101 classes.

Don't get me wrong. I like women. I like pictures of women. Paintings, sculptures, digital art, you name it, but there comes a point when you ask yourself; is it even about the game-play anymore?

If you want a great hack-n-slash RPG with a tolerable amount of Japanese pop-art elements, play Guardian Heroes. Excellent game.

The first time I heard about this game I thought "say what? A game that combines the best of King of Dragons and D&D arcade, done by Vanillaware? SOLD". Then I saw the gameplay and I thought "wow great! old 2D style hack n' slash is back yeah!... oh lol, look at those characters, they are absurd xD." And that's it. I will enjoy the game despite some characters design being too exagerated to feel real. For me, if it's a game I don't give a damn about that kind of things, just play then quit, period. For example, at that respect  DOA's are worse imo, but I just play them have a good time then do something else.
I find kind of funny all the aura of ":o boobs!" around this game, that's why I included the pair of ( . )( . ) at the title :D

Although I recognize that the amazon art is... disturbing somehow. But then again, the in-game sprites don't look like the art. They are not THAT exaggerated.

As backwards as gender stuff is in American video games, it's even more backwards in Japan. I really don't expect any better from anything that comes out of there.

Normally I encourage scantily clad, super-slutty women in any media, but the boobs seem a bit too far on the silly side, even for me.

I'm eagerly awaiting this ... even though I have no Vita <.<......
I really like Vanilla ware's art ALLOT.
Yes it has every overused japanese sterotypical looking characters in it and then it pushes the exageration even more ( like big breasts and oversized males or the cutesy and crazy unpractical designs) but they manage to make everything look painterly and artsy and it all really blends in well.

I was going to get the game for my vita until i heard it got a new developer and wont be release until 2014. As a guy who likes TA sadly this game has a little too much of the T.

I'm guessing from these complaints the Sorceress is the only playable female in this game? Or is the Elf not considered a girl?

I know where you all are coming from but it kinda irks me when people latch on to one thing in a game that they don't agree with and label the entire thing as such.

Is the Sorceress horribly proportioned? Yep, but so is everyone else.

Don't know where you heard that but is rumoured that the game will be probable released at the beggining of summer this year (end of their fiscal year or something like that they say, from an interview that was made to the current devs, will serach for it).

Hmm, it has an exaggerated art style on everyone but the elf.

Mileen, in the first version of D&D, elf and dwarf were classes.
It is a statical fact that half the people on the boards have a secret desire to be a cat-girl samurai.

After playing Odin Sphere, Grim Grimoire and Masamune, I must admit that Vanillaware has disappointed me with the boobs' direction in Dragon's Crown. And that Amazon? Looks like a female norn on stereoids but ONLY ON HER LEGS!

All of their previous characters (in those three games I mentioned) were fine, almost believable. What happened here? When I start liking a studio/company it always gets *ed up =/

People think it's all about having pointed ears and acting snooty towards humans but there's a lot more to it than that.
