*/10 - All right, that rating probably needs a bit of explanation. I've heard about this movie before I watched it, it supposedly was "amazing" - that coming from a friend whose cineastic opinion I quite treasure, so of course the next time I'd be in a full-fledged berserk mode for some bloodthirsty viking mayhem, I'd fetch that one, first thing!
Said and done! The first thing I noticed after the protagonist slaughters a couple of slaves in bare-handed blood sports: "Ah! One-eyed, classic bad ass. Wait! He's one-eyed AND mute? Man, I hope that's not one of those dick moves writers pull out of their head when their characters aren't really that great and they give them questionable physical attributes or 'flaws' then....". I can ease your mind, the character of 'One-Eye' is actually quite captivating. However and that's the biggest quarrel I had with the movie: It goes at great lengths to force the audience to reflect upon the most minute of details and for my personal taste, it just over-does that. The pace of the movie goes from slow to lethargic and you're stuck there, wishing for something to happen at one point...
Now don't get me wrong, I like a quiet movie as much as the next guy and I am sure my expectations of what it would be have truelly spoiled me of fully appreciating that flick, but holy hell. If I grab yesterday's newspaper to take a dump while I deliberately didn't PAUSE the movie throughout my 15 minute throne-fitting, I know that the movie bores the crap out of me.
It'd not be fair to rate the movie as I admittedly skipped half of it when I couldn't stand the dragged-out "misty boat"-scene one second longer, so I won't.
All I can say is: Watch it at your own discretion, don't expect a glorious spectactle, but rather a introspective character study.
-----------
The Vikings (1954):
You might notice a trend there! YES! Another Viking movie!
9/10There has been a day between those two and I can't tell you how grateful I am to have watched movie. It can easily be cited in tandem with the great legends of 'Ben Hur' and 'Spartacus' of the same era. It's definitely no coincidence that Kirk Douglas turned out to be a choice cast for the latter! The man has one bad ass on-screen presence, let me tell you!
On to the movie: It had pretty much everything you would expect of a cinematic adventure of its time. From the pillaging of English settlements to the trial of faithfulness of ones beloved wife by axe chucking right through to a epic story of brotherhood!
I really enjoyed every bit of it. Especially the strategies used to storm a castle, without spoiling too much, have been brilliant. It's one of those movies that just grips you and makes you wonder what happened in those last 50 years that its like quality has rarely ever been reproduced in more recent productions.
Can wholeheartedly recommend watching that movie to anyone remotely interested in history epics despite its sappy romance!
-------
After writing that review, I am half of a mind to go do an Eroll Flynn marathon or give one of the old Danny Kaye classics an Indian summer!

A parody of 70's kung fu movies. Silly for sure but it made me laugh. New scenes have been mixed with scenes from an old kung fu movie with new dialogue poorly dubbed on top of the old one. The poor voice dubbing usually seen in these kind of movies is actually one of the things they make fun of. If you're thinking "Is that the movie with the cow scene?" then yes, it is. I'd recommend this to anyone who's a fan of old kung fu movies.

The music - 10/10
It's Bond. James Bond. You could tell that this movie was made for the 50th anniversary. The music goes perfectly well and there really isn't a flaw in it.
The characters - 9.5/10
Very well portrayed. Silva reminded me a lot of Jaws. No, it wasn't because of his disfigurement. It was the eyes. He had very kind eyes, as if he couldn't kill anyone whatsoever. Jaws had the same effect on me. We also learnt a lot about Bond in this film and it set everything up perfectly for future Bond films, such as Miss Moneypenny and Q. M actually made me shed a tear as I was not expecting that whatsoever. For those of you who have seen the film, you'll know what I mean.
The only downside to this was that the Bond girls didn't really play a major role. Eve was okay, but she didn't feel like a Bond girl at all. She really didn't bring the 'wow' factor most Bond girls bring to the table. Maybe it's because I'm personally not attracted to her. After all, Halle Berry wasn't that great for me, either. I was disappointed with Serene, though. She looked absolutely amazing, but she played such a small role. I suppose there wasn't enough time for her character to be developed and included within the plot with everything else that was going on.
The Plot - 9.5/10
The plot was one of the best I have seen in a movie recently. Some people spend far too long explaining things or showing us flash-backs. I loved how it stuck to the action at hand and kept the ball rolling. There were a lot of memorable scenes as well, such as the opening sequence, the CGI introduction with Adele's theme as well as the final scenes at 'Skyfall'.
There were a lot of references to the old Bond films, and I don't see why not. It was a film to mark the 50th anniversary, after all, and they did a fantastic job. Bringing back the Aston Martin was obviously a wise move as throughout the first 45 minutes of the film, I was thinking: 'really? He drives a Mercedes now? Oh wait... he's switched to a Jaguar?' The jokes were well implemented and actually made people laugh. They weren't silly or ridiculously rude. They were perfect little comments inserted just at the right times, rather than the cringe-worthy catchphrases of the old films (i.e. 'I discovered your snake had a crush on me,' after the snake tries to kill Bond).
Final Summation: 9.5/10
Definitely better than Quantum of Solace and I personally think it's one of the best Bond films of all time. We learn so much more about Bond and I think this completes the origin story. Any action or Bond fan should definitely go and see this. It's quite possibly one of the best films of the year in my opinion.

Never been a huge fan of James Bond films, and didn't care much for the recent ones. This one, however, was above my expectations. Not really sure what to say about it. It had good action, some classic James Bond scenes in it, and an awesome music intro.

Despite being a huge video game n3rd, and the movie having a ton of past references to video games, I wasn't all too thrilled about it. Reason for a 7 though, is because of the story, which I thought was really cute.

It is simply not a Bond movie. Illogical steps surround the movie while Daniel Craig looks older than ever before. The fighting scenes in my opinion is less exciting and at the final climax I felt I was watching Home Alone 2. The presumed reboot is illogical and flawed, it was absolutely unnecessary.

+ Some good Action
+ Actually some of the Vampires were fairly cool and I liked one female Vampire etc.
- I did not like the constant boring moral reminders yawn!
- I did not like none of the Abe actors... not the boy, adult or older version
My vote: 5/10 Average movie and I do not want to see this again!
While I am not American I do have seen at least some great movie about the war between north and south. I also have seen many good Vampire movies, but this is neither good war movie or good Vampire movie!
Tomorrow when the War Began(2010)
+ Ok actors. Generally none of the actors were annoying though most of them was not even familiar to me from before.
+ Australia beautiful landscapes.
+ Big budget effects.
+ A little bit small scale war Action.
- slightly unrealistic.
- Movie ended where it should have become more interesting.
- BLAH BLAH to much talk and very little Action.
My vote: 6.75/10 ok/good movie!
I guess some teenagers dream about army. Well it is slightly about climate also. I have done slightly less then a year military service in my country and what I most hated about army was:
A. Cold winter climate. Ice and snow in deep forests look pretty, but it is cold and harsh.
B. Lack of sleep. Forget about 8 hours sleep, that rarely happens when doing military
service.
Anyway when facing real combat and people die then it is of course much worse then A and B that I mentioned. I do understand the want to defend your country, but all I am saying military service is not so lovely for many people compared to what they expected even in peacetime.
Borderlands(2007)
+ A mix of torture and slighltly "mystic" horror
+ Hardcore violence.
+ Halfnudity boobs scene. Well if Mexican hookers look like that then I am not impressed lol not even close to beauty queens. However the main female actor was beautiful so I am certainly not saying Mexicans as race look bad.
+ Ok main actors.
Neutral:
The movie is partly based on true Events though very loosely and it is up to viewer to judge what is fact or fiction.
- The movie never grows to classic.
- Some slightly disturbing scenes.
My vote: 7.5/10 good/very good movie.
A warning. Borderlands is more or less torture horror and violent horror. If you don't like those themes then avoid this movie otherwise enjoy.

you are correct, Valhalla Rising ... is a big disappointment. I was drawn to Mads Mikkelsen , thought the casting was good .... and that is all the casting was good . ... the rest is just .... wow landscape, empty landscape ... more empty landscape.
BTW, if you are planning to watch these TV series, Falling Skies and Grimm.... don't ... falling skies is basically walking dead with aliens. and Grimm , you can probably watch the first episode, because what follows is exactly the same, they just put in a different monsters each episode .....

For all of you who are using the word "art" so easily, this is art. Just like Coraline.
I haven't seen something so powerfull since Toy Story 3 - not in my world of cartoons.
I feel like this about Paranorman, probably because of the witch scene that tied it up together at the end. They created such a moving character in one of the most amazing sets i have ever ever ever seen in the cartoons.

It had some of the pieces of a good movie, but its major flaw was that it tried feverishly to appeal to EVERYONE which is a no-no in entertainment. It had like 6 or 7 plot sequences happening in different times & places and it went back and forth between them all at random. There was a sci-fi one, a fantasy one, a gay lover one, an old people one, a slave one, a kid/mom one, etc. wtf wtf wtf
The result was a strong urge to leave but I kept hoping they would bring them all together or find a point to it all, but no. It was just storytelling. The moral to the story is...even if the preview looks good, check the dam reviews before hand.

Surprised - the Wachovski brothers (or..siblings now I guess) count among my most favourite directors (Matrix, V for Vendetta anyone?).
And it looks soooo promising...grrr...will have to watch it, despite the bad review to make sure I didn't miss out on something, lol.

Check out Ebert's review, this movie possibly needs a user's guide before entering the theater. Or something like an opera script.

I didnt like casino royale or quantum of solaces that much but when I saw Skyfall I was blown away. Daniel Craig was amazing and Javier Bardem made one of the most unforgettable villains I have seen in a while. The music was brilliant as was their filming and I think this may be the best Bond movie I have ever seen.

The first Taken was a great film. It was suspenseful, fast paced, thrilling and didn't shy away to show the awful realities of sex-trafficing. (Seriously, that's about the worst thing the human mind can come up with. Just thinking about it makes me rage again) Part two somehow isn't quite the same. It puts more emphasis on action and car chases than suspense. It does have it's thrilling moments, but much less compared to the first one. It's still a solid movie and I liked that they didn't just rehash the story of part one. In fact they made the daughter rather competent in this one, not just a damsel in distress. While she isn't the one who saves the day at the end, she helps to a great deal. In conclusion, this is a good action film, just don't expect it to be a good thriller too, like the first one.

After watching most of the superhero movies and waiting for four months to get it, I was expecting something much better. All the acting was terrible, except for Loki. The action was great, but I didn't see much of Cleveland. Thor was so much better in his movie, along with the Hulk and Iron Man.

I give the movie credits for some...some...humor and a few good scenes, but this was the first movie that i wanted to stop watching. the plot is very, very basic, the actors are..well...there are so many stereotypes, that ic ant even rate the actors O.o they did their job well..but the text-lines were a horror. Cheap humor overall, illogical things (things appearing7disappearing inr andom places etc. etc.) and in the end..the plot jumped rly fast into differnet stereotypes..it was a total waste of time...even cabin in the woods was better T.T

Rated: Horror/Thriller/Mystery on IMDB.
+ Main actor was very beautiful and she felt more like an adult and not like a teenager.
+ Generally ok actors
+ Thriller(with maybe some cruel killings if that is horror to you then so be it)
+ Halfnudity breasts, but unfortunately never expect to see that much of the star female actor that was clearly the most beautiful babe enough said!
+ While predictable actually the very ending had a small surprise twist.
Neutral:
Regardless what IMDB may or may not rate this it has more Romance then Horror IMO, but to
be honest mostly thriller with conversation that was ok, but only fairly interesting.
- Boring music listen to song and playing yawn!
- To many teen actors this movie is made for teens.
- What Mystery? This is not a Mystery movie lol.
- After the intial startup lots of low budget scenes/camera work.
My vote: 6.25/10 ok movie!
This movie was not my typical taste. Watched it with one male friend and 3 girls. The girls chose this movie though I was not entirely against it due to the horror rating. I was more interested in the girls then this movie. Enough said:). It could have been good movie, but odd camera work and it felt like low budget made it to 6.25/10 movie. Lol it has even slightly romance though not a shit movie like Vicky Cristina Barcelona that I was forced to watch during a date(:. I rate Vicky Cristina Barcelona(2008) as 2/10!
