Guardian is more easy-mode, does have access to enough swiftness (staff/shouts), does have AoE (Hammer/Greatsword) and is easy to play solo. But he lacks real long-range options (he does have Scepter/Focus and/or Staff, but range really isn't his specialty

Warrior is as easy as it gets (or so I heard, never tested myself), has good Melee and Range(Single Target-Rifle, AoE-Longbow), more than enough AoE through Longbow, Greatsword, Hammer, I guess access to swiftness too through some banner and/or shouts (a warrior player should confirm that, I don't really know)...
Ranger has one really nice AoE ability named Barrage I think, and can AoE through traps, solo-ability is rather good as well because of his pets, is unmatched in range (apart from traited Engi), also has swiftness options.
Engineer has VERY easy access to permanent Swiftness (10 Points in the last traitline, choose speedy kits, pick MedKit as Healing Skill and switch to it and instantly out of it every 5 seconds), has gorgeous range AoE (1500 range grenades once traited, 1200 range before), or melee AoE through Bombs if so desired... but is more difficult to play especially solo (especially the grenades require some twitch skill, as you have no auto-aimed autoattack, every single grenade wants to be aimed manually)
Necros have good Ranged AoE through their staff as well, shouldn't die too often through large health pool and death shroud, are one of the easier classes to play solo as Minion Masters, don't know how quick they can move though.
Can't say anything about AoE Capabilities of thieves, they are definately fast-moving, but I don't really know more about them.
I don't really know what you mean by fun abilities, I guess everyone has some, while Mesmer and Engineer have some more than others
