I just returned and I see no people in any city and WvW queues are instant.  When I left because I had to relocate for a new job there were tons of people in capital cities, especially around the tradeskill areas and banks and WvW queues were hours long.  Im not saying instant queues are bad its just that only leads me to believe theres a lot less people around.  Also I see maybe 4-5 other people in town even during prime time and I also never get sent to overflow zones anymore either.

So where is everyone?

i'd definitely say it's your server. i'm on Maguuma, and there's constantly people in LA, WvW, dungeons, and even a bunch at the low level zones doing the new Volunteer content.

What server are you on?

You are fooling yourself, user. Nothing here is what it seems. ANet is not the plucky hero, Guru is not an evil empire, and this is not the grand arena.

It wont let me.  If I just delete all my characters will it let me pick a new server then?  Or will I lose all my banked stuff if theres no characters.

No.

As I understand it, you now need to pay a gem fee in order to transfer. On the bright side, you should be able to transfer to the server of your choosing (ie you won't be blocked because a server is listed as "full"), but higher population servers cost more gems to transfer to.

Up until you get money or ingame gold to pay for the transfer, feel free to utilize the guesting system to play the PvE side of the game on any other server(in the same NA or EU region) for free! You will however only be able to WvW representing SBI until you transfer completely.

A lot of servers are dead now that guesting is available(which is actually pretty cool for the populated servers). You can pay $30ish in gems to xfer to another server, or just guest onto one of the higher populated servers. Of course you will not be able to WvW on your guest server, but you will be able to PvE with at least a few others(depending on the zone).  :)

OK the guesting thing seems cool.  Also my dog usually wakes me up around 6-7AM in the morning and I cant ever go back to sleep.  I dont suppose that would be close to Aussie prime time?  With the awesome job market I seem to have unlimited hours to play this game now lol and class doesnt start back until Fall.  So I can be online at all kinds of random times from 4-7AMEST or 4-7PM EST.  Can I guest one character on 2 different servers depending on when Im online?  If Im on from 4-7AM like now I think thats Aussie prime time so whats their official server?

Honestly I think that a lot of people are utilizing the no sub fee.  I'm all about the no sub fee and that's half the reason I got into GW1, however in a lot of games that have sub fees, people feel compelled to play frequently to "justify" their monthly fee.  After all why would you pay 15 a month for something you don't play.  With GW and GW2 I think a lot of people who weren't used to the concept of stopping to smell the roses while leveling, but rather embraced the rush to the end to do end game content, became burned out on the game and are now playing some other games that have come out since GW2 release.
I'll admit that I got side tracked for a while by Torchlight 2, XCOM and few others since reaching max level.  It's not because I became really bored as much as interested to try new games I haven't played and come back to GW2 to play content that I haven't experienced  because I still enjoy playing the game, but in more moderation than I did at release and I'm willing to speculate that I'm not the only person who hasn't stopped playing all together, but are doing other things and taking advantage of the fact that they can come and go as they please without having to be concerned about playing enough to justify paying for it every month.

SBI folded like a house of cards 2-3 weeks ago when they got knocked out of Tier1 for WvW. While this has happened before this last time happened right before the announced implimentation of the long awaited gem cost for server transfers. I think people got hot feet and alot of the larger guilds trasnfered to JQ before the gem cost was implimented.

While you perdiciment sucks, the gem price for transfers was a long time in comming.

Can't speak for "Everyone" but I've moved on to the greener pastures of other games.  The nerfed drop rates in this game was the final nail in the coffin and makes playing alt's not even worth it, this game is like an unpaid job now.  Unfortunately for Anet I play games for fun and not for monkey grinding :(

When my Charr Ranger hit 20 levels above his last useable equipment drop I knew it was time to move on.

I'm always tripping over (read: saving/getting saved by) people on Tarnished Coast while I'm out adventuring, across all of my alts, ranging from lv 8 to 60, at pretty much all times of day. Maybe Guest over here some time and have a look-see, if you're in the American region.

As a person who is owed more than a year's wages at work, I can tell you that the game is most certainly nothing like that.

I have my reasons for not quitting BTW in case you're wondering :P

They claimed that they "couldn't compete" or whatever, so they left. And the bandwagon left with them.

Sorry to hear that, maybe I chose my words poorly?  I just mean that that's how it feels to me.  20 levels and no armour/weapon drops suitable to my character?  How is that even remotely fun?  What the hell am I doing with my time in the game?  When I first started the game on my Necro (main) I didn't have this issue.  I just feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall in the current state and I've given up.  There are other games out there that don't make me feel so lousy and that I'm wasting my time when I play them.

Surely it can't be that bad. In leveling I have had no issues finding white & blue gear at my level. Green gear can usually be had fairly cheap from the TP at not much more than merch price, so we buy it, use it for a number of levels and then sell it at next to no loss when we upgrade.

Yes I could buy things from the TP, but with the percieved loot drop thread* on the official forums it became a reason to quit.  At 15 levels above useable gear I was like haha, this is almost funny but when I got to 20, no thats not funny, my time isn't worth it to Anet, so I'll extend them the same courtesy.

Thank you for posting the link to that thread, and I mean it when I say that. It's very interesting info and I'm still reading through it. I've been playing since headstart, and my loot drops have been uniformly unexciting throughout. A reasonable amount of my game time (outside of leveling alts) is spent with friends or PUGs in dungeons and my friends routinely get better drops than me. Not that I'm bitter about it, it's just the RNG not working in my favor. Speaking of which, it's the friends that keep me in this game, not the drops.

But back on topic...it's only when it comes to dye drops that I can conclusively say that they were increased initially as a result of a reported glitch, and since the fix the drop rate has gone to abysmal levels and never recovered to the level I knew in the first couple of weeks since head start.

I understand what you mean bud. I have bad luck when it comes to jewelry, for example my Mes is almost 55 and her highest level ring/amulet/accessory is... 30? Crafted, at that, by a low level jewelcrafter character of mine.

However, whilst the drops may be boring at least whilst leveling, I have had some decent items too. But it does seem to me that the main way to gear up whilst leveling are karma rewards, crafting and the TP.

I think though that I've gotten better stuff on my more recent characters than a few months ago. Though I could very well be imagining things :P

I'm kinda surprised to read on the forums that there are apparently less and less players after coming back after stopping to play for a bit. On Elona Reach there seem to be more than enough people, temples are being announced and almost always open and so on... is it an issue in NA or just certain servers that are deserted?

Just because there may be a lot of people on your server doesn't mean the game isn't dieing. It just means yours will be the last to go like a Tabula Rasa or Auto Assault. You'll wake up one morning and there will be an email to you about the last day of GW2. ;)

Anet need to redo the way they show the servers being full as its going to waste alot of ppls money to transfer to "full" only to see a ghost town also

going from accounts bound to that server to concurrent users like in other MMO's whould help show true server loads.

GW1 had ONE server all that was on just sharded when full gw2 is a step backwards look at TESO ONE server.

Well personally I'm playing the Path of Exile open beta.  For you guys that liked Diablo 1 & 2, it's more of a sequel than D3 ever was.  Great game and it's free to play too.

If ANet update WvW a bit, I might come back, but as of now I'm on a long break.  Got my monies worth from GW2, it just doesn't have anything to keep me around.
