As I understand it, you now need to pay a gem fee in order to transfer. On the bright side, you should be able to transfer to the server of your choosing (ie you won't be blocked because a server is listed as "full"), but higher population servers cost more gems to transfer to.

I'll admit that I got side tracked for a while by Torchlight 2, XCOM and few others since reaching max level. It's not because I became really bored as much as interested to try new games I haven't played and come back to GW2 to play content that I haven't experienced because I still enjoy playing the game, but in more moderation than I did at release and I'm willing to speculate that I'm not the only person who hasn't stopped playing all together, but are doing other things and taking advantage of the fact that they can come and go as they please without having to be concerned about playing enough to justify paying for it every month.

When my Charr Ranger hit 20 levels above his last useable equipment drop I knew it was time to move on.

As a person who is owed more than a year's wages at work, I can tell you that the game is most certainly nothing like that.
I have my reasons for not quitting BTW in case you're wondering

They claimed that they "couldn't compete" or whatever, so they left. And the bandwagon left with them.

Sorry to hear that, maybe I chose my words poorly? I just mean that that's how it feels to me. 20 levels and no armour/weapon drops suitable to my character? How is that even remotely fun? What the hell am I doing with my time in the game? When I first started the game on my Necro (main) I didn't have this issue. I just feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall in the current state and I've given up. There are other games out there that don't make me feel so lousy and that I'm wasting my time when I play them.

Surely it can't be that bad. In leveling I have had no issues finding white & blue gear at my level. Green gear can usually be had fairly cheap from the TP at not much more than merch price, so we buy it, use it for a number of levels and then sell it at next to no loss when we upgrade.

Yes I could buy things from the TP, but with the percieved loot drop thread* on the official forums it became a reason to quit. At 15 levels above useable gear I was like haha, this is almost funny but when I got to 20, no thats not funny, my time isn't worth it to Anet, so I'll extend them the same courtesy.

Thank you for posting the link to that thread, and I mean it when I say that. It's very interesting info and I'm still reading through it. I've been playing since headstart, and my loot drops have been uniformly unexciting throughout. A reasonable amount of my game time (outside of leveling alts) is spent with friends or PUGs in dungeons and my friends routinely get better drops than me. Not that I'm bitter about it, it's just the RNG not working in my favor. Speaking of which, it's the friends that keep me in this game, not the drops.
But back on topic...it's only when it comes to dye drops that I can conclusively say that they were increased initially as a result of a reported glitch, and since the fix the drop rate has gone to abysmal levels and never recovered to the level I knew in the first couple of weeks since head start.

I understand what you mean bud. I have bad luck when it comes to jewelry, for example my Mes is almost 55 and her highest level ring/amulet/accessory is... 30? Crafted, at that, by a low level jewelcrafter character of mine.
However, whilst the drops may be boring at least whilst leveling, I have had some decent items too. But it does seem to me that the main way to gear up whilst leveling are karma rewards, crafting and the TP.
I think though that I've gotten better stuff on my more recent characters than a few months ago. Though I could very well be imagining things

Just because there may be a lot of people on your server doesn't mean the game isn't dieing. It just means yours will be the last to go like a Tabula Rasa or Auto Assault. You'll wake up one morning and there will be an email to you about the last day of GW2.

If ANet update WvW a bit, I might come back, but as of now I'm on a long break. Got my monies worth from GW2, it just doesn't have anything to keep me around.
