Hey everyone,  im trying to make a good build to help guild more with dungeons.    i wanted to base it off of a flamethrower. I wanna be tanky enough to take hits but be able to dish out plenty of damage as well.  i was thinking so far about having a sigil of fire and strenght on a p/p or p/s.  But what confuses me is the runes for the armor.  i got a full set of CoF armor but i dont feel like baelfire runes are the best for a tanky ft build.  what runes for the armor would be nice to make a tanky/ damagy builld.  is toughness>vitality for this or is power>condition damage.  any help is appreciated.  thanks.

There's three stat choices for CoF armor, which did you go with? None of them look particularly tanky, that may hurt you more than what runes you pick. You can do a decent mix with knights trinkets + zerker armor though.

Power > condition damage, you only got burning plus a few bleeds. Precision and life steal food is also pretty amazing on FT in terms of tanking and damage. I would focus on toughness over vit, if you have 20+ in alchemy that's enough vit to get you out of most one-hit range, and you've got plenty of healing to take advantage of the toughness. But IMO special abilities on runes (crit damage, boon duration, trigger on heal etc.) are usually better than just focusing on extra stats.

I have a flamethrower build that I enjoy. This build probably gives the best possible burst damage the Engi can dish out and works well in short range situations as well as long range. Here is the link to it:

Achrisos, thanks for the build.  seems legit and i might try it.  and foxbat, i might just craft armor with a mix of knights and zerkers which wouldnt be a half bad idea.  but what about armor runes if i craft armor

Go with Power over Condition Damage.

As for your rune set, if you're looking for a more defensive setup, go with Dwayna. If you want a more offensive option, go with Altruism.

Just a note for the OP that this rune choice is primarily oriented towards medkit, since you can proc it without wasting your heal, proc it on cooldown, and you will be switching to medkit anyway to fire off stim pack if nothing else. Medkit is a great choice for a heal skill, but if you want one of the others, these rune sets lose a lot of appeal.

Thats what i thought.  I was gonna craft 4 knights and 2 zerker pieces and for runes i was thinking somewhere on the line of fighter, for toughness, and maybe another toughness rune, or a precision rune.  any thoughts

I would go for a little more Vitality if I were you. P/V/T is my usual go-to. If I want more damage I'll swap out my Emeralds for Ruby jewelry first. If the group needs more, then I start putting in Zerkers in place of my P/V/T gear.

But I ran Knight's for a while though as a good in-between while farming the Ectos to get all that stuff. I just hated the HP pool and shelled out the karma cost for P/V/T gear in Orr. Between the 300 Precision in Firearms, the Precision on your Rifle, and Emerald jewelry, your crit rate will be over 40% as is (60% when Fury is active).

As for runes, why not use Altruism? 3 stacks of Might and Fury is huge for group-play. I changed a few days ago and haven't looked back.

What build do you run Phineas? (I looked quickly to see if previously posted yours and I didn't see it).

0/30/0/30/10 for dungeons. Elixir R as third slot option.

0/30/0/20/20 in open world/WvW. Whatever I want for third slot. I used Utility Goggles a lot before I got 6/6 Altruism.

I've been running 0/30/0/25/15 simply because I can't find more major traits I want in either line. Any of those should work though.

For a tanky FT setup, I run the following:  http://gw2skills.net...bJ2yulbL5WDRmFA

Mind you, this is the tank-but-still-ok-damage version.  If I want to be REALLY tanky, I'll switch Inventions V to I and Alchemy VII to VI.  I wear full Power/Toughness/Vitality armor socketed with Runes of the Fighter.  For a supertank (and if you have lots of cash on hand), I'd probably go with Runes of the Dolyak.  For jewelry, I wear the new karma P/V/T trinkets (Cathedral of Silence) socketed with 3x Valkyrie jewels and 2x Knight jewels (Crests of the Soldier aren't as good).  You'll want to cycle through medkit every 5-10 seconds to give yourself a might boost over and above what you get from Juggernaut.
