Hey!

So after 5 months, I still wasn’t able to get to the end of the game. Moreover, on my highest level character(60), I have just started the Order storyline.

I am a type of person who likes to stick to a main character, and bimp it out all the way. However, I have still no idea which class would fit in my hands, wouldn’t bore me.

So far, here is what I’ve got:
Thief – 61
Mesmer – 47
Necromancer – 31
Ranger – 25

The last one was the Mesmer, and it’s a blast in WvW (lacking perma-swiftness tho), but PvE is pretty boring with the very limited weapon sets available. Thief is OK, but boring as well, nothing interesting in gameplay. Necromancer is same as Mesmer, but I don’t like it in WvW either, so it’s crossed. Ranger is just annoying, it’s nothing more than pew-pew-pew, dead enemy, rinse and repeat.
So I really have to choose now, finally, and I want to make this decision right, because starting areas are getting annoying as hell.

I was really thinking on making a Warrior, because the many weapon types it can carry is “Truly, truly outrageous”! But I may be wrong, and it could be boring as well. I fear the class is just plain simple, after a Mesmer.
The other one was the Elementalist. Seems interesting with the attunement swapping, and mastering it is sure a whole new level of gameplay. Now, the thing is, only staff, dagger, scepter, focus are available, that’s not so much. I would like to hear how attunements compensate for this.

Guardian and Engineer are left. Engineers are just NO, Guardian may be okay tho.

Could you give me some points for the professions you would suggest me?
Few extra questions:
- How is Warrior roaming in WvW?
- How is Elementalist solo in PvE?
- Is glass cannon D/D Ele viable (PvE/WvW)?

Thanks in advance!

You've not elaborated much on what you're looking for in a profession, so I cannot relay any helpful info on that front other than a very vague, hazy recommendation for Elementalist. Why don't you like Engineers? Why do you think Guardians would be okay? How necessary is it for a class to be nuanced and have indepth mechanics? What type of playstyle are you gravitating towards? Is it a necessity that the class be versatile or just a preference? etc.

I'd stay away from Warriors, however - they tend to be the most upfront and least gimmicky class in the game, with almost all of their skills being some variant on "hit something" or "hit something harder."

Apart from that...

- Warrior roamers in WvW are pretty meh compared to Thief and Elementalist roamers. They have substandard mobility compared to the other two, and lack quick getaway tools like stealth/Ride the Lightning and easy permaswiftness, plus a thousand condition cleanses. All in all, the only three professions that can delay an entire zerg with a roaming spec are Elementalists, Mesmers, and Thieves. Warrior roamers also struggle with 1vX fights while soloing.
- Elementalist solo in PvE is fairly tricky since they're so frail normally. It's very difficult in the early levels but gets easy later. They're amazing for dungeons due to their plethora of party support, however; so you hopefully shouldn't have too many issues getting a group.
- Glass-cannon D/D elementalist is viable but is perhaps the hardest spec in the entire game to play correctly, and is not for the faint of heart. Playing an extreme squishy at point-blank range with little to no long-range utilities is harrowing even to very good players. Most D/D elementalists I've seen either use semi-tanky roamer specs or full-fledged bunker builds.

I would also point toward elementalist being more interesting and challenging when you consider the many different skills to unlock in the four attunements for each weapon set. Plus the low health and armor really force you to be on your toes while leveling.

But really what I find most interesting is forcing yourself to use other sets on any class. Don't get stuck in one cycle set of skills. Change it up and learn the different tactics required for each play style of the class.

Oh yep, sorry for not saying. I like tricky professions, which can mind* the enemy, has high mobility, and interesting of course. I don't want to get bored, because that's my death. I like if it is versatile, because that means if I get bored of a weapon set, I can get onto another.

That is why Engineer is fired. Also I hate those must-have backpacks with the kits, which would be the versatile key there. Guardians are only okay because I don't see the killing power in them.

Today I have tried Warrior, and it seemed even a littlebit OP. I cut through PvE like butter. But if you say Elementalist is more versatile, and Warrior gets boting easier, I take it. :)

Thanks for the info already!

I've got a lv80 warrior, ranger, mesmer and thief. Lv4x engi and 3x ele.
I think what's beautiful about warrior IS their straightforwardness. The fact that you are out there, without tricks, taking a blow to the head, makes you learn to dodge. On the other hand, yes, armor and high hp, but I think that KNOWING how to play without tricks is valuable as well. Remember that.
atm working on my ele, and tbh, I'm having a blast. It's VERY versatile and tbh, attunement juggling is quite cool. I suggest you do exactly what you said: Play warrior and make an ele when \ if you get bored of warrior.
