I very much doubt it when you eat it.  Although before the beheading and plucking, sure why not?

My grandma had a lot of chickens growing up and she always had one or two that were like a pet to her. Her dad used to tell her that having a chicken for a friend was great because a little part of them would always be with you forever. He didn't explain that this was because she was eating her pets for dinner every so often...
