My server used to always win before resets and racked up lots of points.  Since I came back a few weeks ago we lost our first round by 300k points and have always been in last place.  I try going to Eternal Battlegrounds and we control nothing and theres no one else even there.  If I cant guest on another server that actually has people so I can WvW how am I supposed to enjoy the game?

I don't envy your position as free server transfers recently ended. If your server has lost most of their WvWers you really only have three choices. Play only PvE, try to generate interest in WvW on the server you're currently on, or transfer to a more WvW-oriented server. Wish I could give you a better choice selection.

Sea of Sorrows could always use another defender. We're having a great battle at the moment with Sanctum of Rall and Jade Quarry.

Sadly as the guy from SoS stated. If you want to do WvW the only thing you can do (realistically) is save up the gold (or spend IRL money) to get the gems to transfer. Any server in the current Tier 1 or Tier 2 will give you very active and fun WvW environment.

What are the good servers?  Im in the same position.  Came back right after they ended and WvW is a ghost town.  No zergs to run with which doesnt make sense cause the other 2 realms control everything on the Eternal map so theres plenty of stuff to take.  I bought this game for the RvR type battles I loved in DAoC but whats the point when your server is dead and Im not paying $30 for a transfer when they used to be free.

On the other hand, everytime someone thinks "my server's WvW is kinda dead, i'll move to a tier1 server", it just makes the situation worse for everyone.

stick it out and fight to make your server better, every migration hurts the WvW ecology as a whole.

Shortlist:
Sea of Sorrows (super organized with a popular oceanic timezone)
Jade Quarry (all around good and you will find a commander in every map nearly 24/7, very PuG friendly no guild required)
Sanctum of Rall (Extremely popular North American timezone, but not very much in the others)
Blackgate (all around server with good EU and NA but weak Oceanic)
Tarnished Coast (the unofficial RP server, never gives up and is probably the most friendly server in the game that still can keep up with most in WvW)
Fort Aspenwood (the new kids on the block, kinda the watered down version of Sea of Sorrows very organized when they want to be but lack the numbers and presence to compete against the first four I listed)
Kaineng (Extremely popular Oceanic WvW server with a much less but still ok NA/EU, this server is very low population and will actually cost you much less to transfer to than all the others I listed)

Here's the problem, they were never intended to stay free and it was their full intention to make people pay for transfers.  So you can't think that way because if anything we should be happy they allowed us to have free transfers for as long as they did let alone even having them.

Before I would've said it was a good investment because you're helping ANet and their funding but seeing how they've been so on the down low about things and seem to be pulling a BioWare, I'm not so sure about it lol.  My best opinion would be that wait it out until the servers find their place in the tiers and you should see activity again.  Or go to Kaineng while it's still cheaper than the rest.

Might transfer to JQ since I have already been doing all of my guesting there.  Is there usually always a bunch of zergs running around?  I usually have more fun doing that.  Just blowing up everything with AoE damage.  I want that old school DAoC feeling I got when it was like 200-300 people fighting at once and Im definitely not getting that on my current server.  We just took like 5-6 things and saw less than 10 enemy players.

I can't think of any server that is actually "dead" in WvW. That is more of a false perception. The worst case scenario is that large guilds transferring around have screwed glicko to the point where many servers are not in the tier they should be in because the massive and frequent migration of players occurs faster than glicko can correct itself. But glicko ratings have been reset this week so give it a few weeks to factor in historical data and tiers will quickly emerge that correlate strongly to population and timezone coverage. As long as people stop moving around so much to game the rankings, servers will gradually settle into the tiers they were meant to be in.

Logged in last night during prime time and checked the WvW zones for a bit and never saw a Commander Icon.  If I dont see one of those I just leave.  Having a big map icon that says "Hey heres the Zerg follow me Im taking stuff" is so much better than randomly running around the map hoping you find someone.

Soon as I get some money Im probably going to head to Jade Quarry.

I would say stick it out where ever you are for at least the rest of this month as we have no idea how the Feb WvW patch (still to come) and reset of the glicko ratings is going to change things.  There's plenty of things to do in PvE to gear up while waiting to see how it all shakes down.  Lots of worlds seem like they give up on WvW after the weekend if they are getting blown out which can lead to a false sense of what the active WvW population is actually like.  Some worlds have certain timezones that are very dead while others are full of action.  Take some time to figure out what is going on with your WvW community before jumping ship, look for their community message board and find out who the leaders are.  Giving up so easily pretty much means you'll have a heck of a time finding fun anywhere you go.

Jade Quarry has a lot of queues right now for WvW which can be quite frustrating if you have limited playtime   and the old free-transfer-bandwagon-to-the-most-populous-server philosophy has actually done a good deal of damage to the game already.  I am sorry you feel you need a commander icon and a zerg to follow in order to enjoy WvW but there are a lot of other ways to play that you might try for kicks while waiting for the real match up to start in March.

Well you are welcome to come to JQueue, but let me tell you  we don't call it JQueue for no reason.  I see what I did there!

Actually the queue issue is not a issue that just JQ is dealing with. Even lower tier WvW servers like Fort Aspenwood and Tarnished Coast are having issues with the queue even when they have the outmanned buff on the field. There is currently a very serious problem with the queue system in GW2, one that ANet is either ignorant about or doesn't care about or is working on it and just not saying anything to us. Regardless the queue issue is going to hit you no matter where you go out of the servers I listed.

That said if you do come to Jade Quarry, you will be welcomed as with everyone else and find large teams to run with on a daily basis.

Ever since the first HoD/TA split I saw this becoming a problem. The WvW population was pretty distributed initially even if there was a bit of a concentration at the top end, now the top end has split but the WvW population have distinctly split into a specific bunch of servers essentially creating pvp/pve server split.

Anyway JQ is the best server to be on if you don't want to have to be in a mega serious WvW guild of people that you may not necessarily like best just to get in on organized action. However the queues are a factor and would be even without a bug. Fort Aspenwood is probably the one that needs the most help but even with all their recent transfers you might experience a similar but lesser "deadness" like I did when I was there ages ago.  I would rate Tarnished Coast, Blackgate and Kaineng in that order for servers that have presence but could use more help. Kaineng is the new StackedGate

I'd recommend a tier 4 or 5 server. They won't be filled to the brim with giant zergs and there is some room left for normal action with tactical play. Yet there are enough people to ensure at least a couple of maps are full.

Sorry to hear what the situation has become like on your server. To be honest, if you are planning on transferring, Dragonbrand or Maguuma are your best choices. None of the T1-2 servers need any more people as they are already in balanced match ups but those two T3 servers are going to be stuck facing a dropping T2 server each week (FA and TC). Most other tiers are balanced or will be balanced in 1-2 weeks. T3 is the odd one out and anyone thinking of transferring should consider Dragonbrand or Maguuma. Don't think those servers have any serious issues with queues.

When I checked last the price for transfer was 1000 or 1800 gems based on most of them being very high  or high.  There weren't any cheaper then that.  Kaineng got so many xfers before the fee placement their now very high most of the time.  Previously on Kaineng I remember going to Blazeridge Steppes & the Shatterer was sitting there untouched lol wasn't enough people to do it.

You'll fall to a tier where you won't be completely shut out. You may not be the winning server in that tier either. That's not the same as dead.
