You know, there's a point where maps just get too big. Want an example? Look at Just Cause 2, and imagine trying to traverse that area without cars and planes and super grappling hooks.
A bigger world seems like a great idea until it becomes a chore to get to places. And fast travel systems in single-player games feel a bit dirty.

I might give it a try, though.

I am both excited, and worried about this. Look at Gothic 3 - Piranha Bytes ambitiously tried to create a more sandboxy game with the scope of Elder Scrolls but with all the goodies and magic that made their previous games the gems they were, but ended up releasing a game that was incomplete and in many ways broken - partly due to being forced into a rushed release by **shudders** the publisher  JoWood - which is terribly sad since the potential of the game was so obvious to all of us who sodiered through it out of love for the franchise. It took several community patches to make it more playable.

I really hope that CD Projekt Red have the resources to pull this off.

I never actually finished the previous Witcher games... But I did purchase them both and never regretted my choice, simply because of CD Projekt Red's ethos as a gaming company. And unless things go horribly wrong, I will be purchasing The Witcher 3 as well.

Those screens (albeit low resolution) were linked on polish gaming site so I assume they are not scans from article in gameinformer. If mod finds it to not be the case then oh well.

Both original Withcer and Witcher 2 are amongst my favourite games of all time; the atmosphere, world and characters are great and I can't think any like them from top of my head (granted, my gaming experience is somewhat limited). While change to more open world style is a bit worrying, mostly because it's easy to screw up, I'm definately looking forward to this game. One thing is sure though; I will have to buy whole new PC bit before it comes out

I really hope there is an expansion or something, one of the things I hate about Projeck CD is even though they make great games, they always just jumped unto the next one. And NO the enhanced edition don't count for me. I want brand new world and stuff, but i suppose its asking for too much.

Freaking excited for this. If they make it more open I hope they will add more customization options for Geralt maybe ala fable style where you can drastically change your character even though you start with a forced look. A more varied combat system would be nice too. Also I hope it will be the length of the first game or longer! And I want more loot too (don't need standard MMO loot, just a good amount of legendary items hidden accross the world would please me).

I doubt CD projekt will screw up with the open world. They where always pretty good with the use of space in the games. Even in the first one that had bigger vaster areas.

Oh and I'm pretty sure that the mysterious girl on the picture is Ciri because of the pale hair.

Huh? That is just your opinion

Witcher 2 had probably my favorite combat in any RPG i have ever played I sure as hell they kept it.
Every RPG usually has a very boring combat and the only reason to keep playing them is see the story unfold.. but in Witcher 2 every fight was an adrenaline rush

I'm not a fan of the combat in the witcher series as well (although 2 was better than the first one). I think it's the weakest part of this game series. But they improved it from 1 to 2 and hopefully this next one will be improved further.

See, I found 1 to actually be better than 2 in terms of being overall fun to play. -2 has more depth in theory, but in practise I've found myself to be primarily fighting against the combat system rather than using it to fight my opponents, whenever the fight gets more complex than 'hold down mouse button to win'. And half the time buttons I press for particular actions (normally Sign use) and then nothing happens for no apparent reason...

And don't get me started on all the sequences that are basically whack-a-mole on buttons that flash up on the screen.

I know the feeling, I struggle with the combat too and couldnt keep playing after the prologue. Luckily for us they are going to release a mod this week to solve those problems so I will give it a try again : )

I liked one better as well. It felt like it had more soul than two. Also after spending so much time learning the combat system of 1 (it took me a while and I almost gave up on the game), the combat for 2 was so unresponsive for me and unbalance coming from someone who loves action combat. I am hoping that the new mod from the game designer "Flash", released tomorrow will make 2 a lot better for me and I hope be implement in 3.

Also 2 was pretty much ruined at the start of the game when they decided to off my favorite character, I pretty much did not care as much about the game after that point.

Looking at the changes in the "Full Combat Rebalance 2" mod, it looks like it's addressing some serious issues that have plagued W2 and caused dislike from me & plenty of others. Some key changes include increasing the responsiveness of Geralt (by up to 80%!) and NPC's (up to 50%), as well as allowing strafing, blocking while moving, no bouncing off when parrying, automatic parrying of sword attacks, etc. All very good changes - and might actually make W2 worth giving a shot again once the mod is released. I'd recommend reading through the changes to see if it addresses things in the combat & such that you didn't like.

Certainly looks like it's definitely worth trying. Unfortunately, it also looks like I'll probably need to go through the prologue yet AGAIN... but I've never managed to make it much past the prologue without going and playing something else instead, so I'm not losing a lot.

Not at all, I want wither 3 on pc, and why would I not? Played one and two on pc, what's so hard to understand?

What Specialz is commenting about is the fact that CD Projekt Red has always put itself as a PC game company first, console second. They have always stated that their games are designed around PC gameplay first and foremost, with the games being ported to consoles as a second priority. So your comment about "Here's hoping for a PC Port" sort of flies in the face of what the company behind The Witcher series has stated that they are all about - PC games & gamers first and foremost. The history of the games does support this:

The Witcher 2 - released on PC on May 17 2011, Enhanced Edition released on PC & X-Box 360 (first time on console) close to a year later on April 12 2012.

Didn't know the dev's stance on gaming, it's just so rare to have studios develop for PCs first then do a half arsed consoles port, usually other way round.
