I'm not sure why but I really enjoy Dungeons (I could run them all day).
I've been running them on my 80 Ele but I realise that Warrior,Guardian and Mesmer are the most wanted for Dungeons. I don't have a group to run with so I'm usually with randoms.

I love all three of them, I can't decide :/

by stereotypes:

warrior: the badass   (Thor, Wolverin, B.A. Baracus)
guardian: the responsible adult  (Odin, Cyclops, H.M. Murdock)
mesmer: the artistic "think out of the box " guy (Loki, Gambit, Tempelton (Face) Peck )

guradian in group is almost a MUST, mesmer can make so many encounters trivial with its utilities, warrior excellent DPS in tough package.

Well... just go with your Ele if you like him the most I'd say... Patches will probably finetune all Chars to be of equal use in Dungeons in the long run probably.
But, if you want one of those three, and gameplay doesn't matter to you (which sounds a bit strange, but to each his own I guess), I'd suggest going Warrior, because many standard groups consist of 3 Warriors, 1 Guard and 1 Mesmer, and I don't think that there are three times as many maxlevel warriors as mesmers/guardians...
But going from Ele (arguably one of, if not THE most complicated to play Profs) to Warrior (the easiest/simplest to play) could lead to you becoming bored rather quickly...

from a strictly grouping standpoint you'll probably get a group faster as a guardian/mesmer as there are more warriors who play the game than both of those classes.

Although I never pug anymore so honestly I don't have a good response.  Just play all 3.

I play with engineerand mesmer, although some prefer if I switch to mesmer, they quickly change their tune when they see my engineer get results.

That means you should take what ever you like and stick to it. If you know how to use the profession, there isn't am issue.

Your options rated:

A.Guardian - most likely to survive any situation, most welcomed by groups
B.Warrior - More DPS, less survivability, but very successful and desired by groups
C. Mesmer - Most creative kiting class with strong survivability, decent damage along with a teleport skill valued by groups

OP: I would say that you should run with what you like playing as. While my main is a Guardian, my build is somewhat atypical for the class. I've had really good runs with Elementalists, Engineers, and Necros.

My experience with Theives and Rangers has been hit or miss. Still, I'd rather have a teammate that can play their class well. If you are encountering folks who are greifing you because you aren't their desired class just walk on.

Hex.
[ Has Elementalist and Engineer as alts. They are radically different from my current playstyle... ]

But seeing how every group is 4 warriors and a mesmer you still have a good chance with a warrior.

Warrior seems like a safe bet (Nice simple compared to Ele and if I feel like something complicated I always have my ele).
I love the support that Mesmer brings and how people rely on you (I’m normally a support class buffer/healer), it seems their utilities are very support oriented. Soloing Isn’t a problem since (unless I fall in love with the class more than ele) it will only be used for Fractals and Dungeons.
Then again.. Guardian seems to blend the two together well.
