I liked WoW's epic hunter quest. You had to kill some pretty hard encounters (solo) to obtain a cool bow. Well, the bow itself was not legendary but you could say the quest was. I'd really like to have such very hard class-specific quests (one for each weapon and class) in Guild Wars 2. Of course they must not have any better stats than exotic ones unlike they have now, but they must have some really cool and fitting design.

b2t:
The approach of getting a legendary in GW2 is more than boring. I don't want to farm over and over for a single item that is not even account-bound. I simply don't want to.

Like some other posters, I'm not going to chase it.  I've been burned by RNG before and I feel no desire to make a fun game less fun by dealing with the frustration of RNG.

If a precursor falls into my lap as I do things that I find fun, that's cool.  Or if I earn enough money to buy one or if another method of obtaining a precursor through hard (yet fun) work comes up, I can do that, too.  But I'm not grinding for a weapon skin.

Legendaries are entirely optional and I don't need the boost to my ego.  My head is big enough as it is.

Wasn't there some talk about legendaries being made accountwide and them staying that way even after you are using the weapon on a a character? Can't find the official response...

On topic: I'm not actively working for a legendary, but I'm saving up the stuff that's needed for the recipes. I'll have to wait for the scavenger hunt nonetheless. I expect to craft my first in a year, probably something for my ranger :)

Feeling your post got wrongfully deleted? Thread locked? Want to chat? Send me a PM. I won't bite

Haven't found any red post about this too, it's mostly a demand from players. On another note, Fractal Weapons are Account Bound on acquire and stay that way as long as you don't transmute them (max damage but no stat) so it's a mechanism already in game.

I just don't see the point. IMO

My exotics are just as good stat wise and look just as good.

I'm an alt lover as well as lover of variety when it comes to gameplay. In the time it took my friend to get the Incinerator I'd geared up 4 lvl80's. Now I have 6 lvl80's (Mesmer and Ele being the missing professions) all geared and pimped out to my liking.

If you don't like alts I guess it's the only thing to do, I just can't see the point in wasting so much time for what are pretty tacky skins that only offer a single playstyle on a single class. The overused great-swords for example I find incredibly boring in terms of gameplay.

I've been actively pursuing a legendary for a while now and only have the precurser left to get. It's been fun playing for all the materials needed. I really think though to make the weapon truly legendary, they should all have a drop down box for each one of them that will let you customize the stats it has. For any build you want to run the weapon should be able to be changed instantly to match that build. I play mostly PVE and as a Warrior. And to waste my weapon stats on Toughness and Vitality makes me feel ill. =) Cuz really why would anyone who knows what the dodge button does need those stats on a legendary? What do you guys think? Drop down boxes for the win!

ditto

If this were a chemical reaction, where effort and time were reactants, the percentage yield of useful products would be 14.78%, and the by-products would be 'where next' and 'wow, what a waste of time'.
-reference from the mind of Hirsty-

If you cannot tell, I am annoyed at the rate at which the prices for the components for the L-weapons are increasing, and they all just seem a long, painful grind, with VERY little reward, which a LOT of people have nowadays.
Doesn't really make you stand out anymore.
In my head whenever I see one, I automatically think, "There's another schmuck who's got oodles of time to pour into the seemingly endless 'well' I call the Legendary grind."

TLDR
Long-short- I cba. requires many monotonous activities, that are NOT fun the 30th time.

Legendaries are too mainstream :P

Seriously, there is nothing "legendary" about them, it's just a huge boring grind for a skin, that you see every day, when walking through LA, better get something else, there are some really cool exotic skins for you to work towards. They require a lot less time, so you can get weapons for all your characters in the same time, it would take you to get a single legendary.

I want to thank everyone for keeping thier comments friendly and positive.  However, I can't tell if the below post was an attack on me or all comments on not obtaining a Ledgedary.

If you're not ready to commit to the game then don't even start it.
Frankly? Anyone can hit max 80 on as many alts as he pleases and get 100% world completion, that's peanuts that req. no skill at anything. Besides getting things done faster due to better understanding of the game's mechanics.

Legendary require a substantial amount of resources that shows your true dedication to the game by improving the prestige of your account.
Haters will hate, but most people will be amazed by your feat.

You can still transfer the weapon at the loss of the legendary tier to another character. Should cost you the amount a lv80 exotic of that weapon type.

I agree with the part about multiple lvl 80's and 100% World Completion being easy to obtain.  That was just a quick summary to let readers know that I was not new and working on my first character.  I forgot to mention that I do have the majority of the resources required, but just not ready to commit.  Also, I do not need one item to add "prestige" to my account.  I validate my worth by assisting others and having fun playing a game.

I am not a hater, I am just undecided.

I'm not getting one - I'm playing for fun and don't want it to dictate how I spend my time in game. I'm taking my time and there's still plenty to do for me. Others don't mind the grind and do go for it which actually is a good thing imho, this way not everyone ends up with a legendary and we keep a bit of diversity.

It gives something to do in the game, save some stuff here and there, add another weapon to the collection, even if it's a badass sniper rifle I'm going to handle like a massive shotgun, brag, brag, brag. I think I'd have felt bad if I intended to make a legendary greatsword, everyone and his dog got a Twilight already. Would have prefered... A more complicated program, not a massive grind. Well I'll decide to finish it one day, no rush though.

PS: Yes, haters will hate. Most ridiculous ones will hate the haters.

I have Zap, 50~ clovers and quite a lot of gold/badges but I'm hesitant to finish it.

I'd much rather get a shortbow or armor set for my Thief so for now I'm going to hold off and hope the clovers will be used for future recipes.

Sadly, I got an in-game mail from a gold seller today with a list of legendaries they had for sell. They claimed they were the sole agent for the best equipment in game.

Yes, I reported it immediately.

ANet, you may want to consider making legendaries account bound. Not necessarily retroactively, but any new ones as of a certain date.

Just saying.

The Legendary is the ultimate prize in GW2 not to mention it is the only thing that will always be max.

Will it now? What if they upgrade the level cap? Will your legendary suddenly level up as well? Or if they introduce Ascended weapons or something, with better stats then Exotic. Will the legendary stats go up to be equal to the Ascended? They may, but I haven't seen it confirmed, that they'll keep legendaries always on top.

I would go for a legendary, but for one, I share the OP's problem - can't permanently stick to one character. Also, there are some terribly looking skins for certain weapons, or they are made to be used by a specific profession. I mean, stuff like Engineer's Blunderbuss or Jump shot comming from The Predator is just ridiculous. Or using the Bifrost, the rainbow staff, on Necromancer sounds quite wierd also. Or a deadly assassin whose pistol is a joke-weapon (looking at you, Quip)...
I have to say that some mini-legendaries (the exotics you get from MF, stuff like The Crossing, Volcanus, Vision of the Mists etc) look better/are more fitting certain profession than the legendaries themselves.

Yes it will. It's already been confirmed by devs that legendaries will always be equal to the best inslot corresponding weapon.

QFT.

I don't really understand why a lot of of the legendary mats are Account Bound but the legendary itself isn't. Makes no sense to me at all.

Off topic : Everytime I see a thief with Quip and the squicky noises I just run away, That sound just pisses me off and I really dislike how it looks. Bows which shoot rainbows out of the ass and unicorns and so on and so on.... Are there more 7 years old looking weapons in this game? When are they gonna come up with some cool looking weapons? Some weapons that actually look like weapons and not sticks and toys?

On topic : I got everything but the precursor for my Legendary (Twilight), which will take me 1 year or so to get. XD And I had doubts regarding which char should I equip it on (whenever and if I will be able someday to get my hands on one precursor), but I know now and I will go for it. I don't care about being account bound or soul bound, I don't even care if it's a legendary weapon or not. For all I care they could have made it a green weapon. I only like the skin. It will be (if ever) my first and only legendary weapon (depends on the next batch of legendary weapons they will come up with) up to this point, since the grind is massive, the gold needed is too much, the boredom while doing everything to get it is beyond anything in real life or in any game.

I would like to get one just to have it, but I don't see myself as even getting more then that.  On that same note I am note going out of my way to gather up all of the materials needed in order to create one, nor am I trying to save my money in order to buy one.

Similar to dungeon armor its a complete waste of my time to grind for a cosmetic reward that will more then likely end up on the black trading co.  style section in another year or so when they add new epics.

I already have Twilight and Bolt. I enjoy playing pve so getting them wasn't really a huge grind for me. In future I am still planning on getting aether and possibly more legendaries (bifrost, sunrise, incinerator) if I ever manage to get the second world completion done.

I want one... and I suppose I'm working towards it - got the WvW, ob shards, nearly done explorer. Sadly I'll never be able to work towards the sheer amount of gold it requires by just 'playing the game', so unless I get a bunch of precursors or something drop I will probably never get one. :(

Can imagine how popular the ledgendaries on WoW would be if you had to fork out a million gold for them...

Plus the whole 'not BoA', and not sure I'd even want to keep maining Elementalist anymore.

Plus the whole no choice of model - should at least be a fluffy rainbow type AND a dark night stars etc version like the gswords.

I play this game to have fun not work. I find it way too tedious to make a legendary. Besides that I often switch weapons on my characters I get bored with the same setup so I'm constantly changing. I'd consider it if maybe I got a precursor, but that's about it.

Thanks for bringing up this point. It reminded me of something I meant to include this in my original Post.

It happened quite often in GW1 and already in GW2, certain skills will get nerfed while others buffed.  It will make some weapons less desirable for the new hottest builds.  One of my concerns would be to get a Legendary weapon for a specific character with a specific build and that build get nerfed to the point the weapon is undesirable.

Also, I like PVE, Dungeons, and WvW.  I sometimes use different weapon sets on my alts depending on which area I am playing.  I will  admit that the character I would most likely get the Legendary for only uses the same set of weapons for all three areas.  Then my issue goes back to what if i get bored with that play style and choose a different build and change weapons.   I feel like I would be restricted to just that weapon and that character all the time.

I also worry that obtaining the Legendary would be anti-climactic and the game would stop being fun to play.  I had a similar thing in GW2 when they introduced the Hall of Monuments.  I started the grind towards 50/50 only to resent the game after a while.
