They were bought by a big, bad, mean company that breathes down their necks?

Yup. People who leave because they dislike a patch were planning on leaving anyway.

Most of the time this is true but with the "ascended" patch I could see why so many people left. Anet promised a game with no gear treadmill which a lot of us fell in love with. Then after they realized they wouldn't be able to hold the wow kiddies attention with an easy system to max out they decide to slowly release piece by piece ascended gear? How long is this going to take? A year for the full release of armor and weapons? More?

All I gotta say is they better let me acquire ascended gear through WvW come march because I don't know how much more fractals I can take. I have gone PvX and coming into this I was strictly WvW/PvP/RvR minded.

If you want to have the biggest advantage in WvW (which anyone reading this does) then why do they force me to PvE for weeks on end just to get a slight edge?

More questions than answers I realize but it truly is food for thought.

I understand your point but disagree with the point of view.

There was a gear grind to begin with. If there wasn't you could do a level 80 dungeon as easily with your starter gear as having level 80 exotics. Also, Legendaries? Plus, I still have neither a legendary nor any ascended gear. I survive and kill our enemies at least on an equal level as my guild mates. The advantage is so subtle it is nearly incalculable in real time during combat. My personal opinion is, the RNG is just as overpowered as ascended gear. The hysteria of a gear grind is blown out of proportion as a lot of things are in current gaming.

The people that quit then as well as any people that quit over this already made up their minds before the perceived tragedy happened. The truth is, the game is not another game folks have played in the past. It may have elements similar to other games but it isn't that game. No matter how hard people wish this will never be EQDAOCSBWOUOCOH

In defense of Ascended gear, at least they are introducing it gradually so that you are not forced to grind it all at once, giving people months at a time in order to get their gear. The stat difference is not as noticeable because it is on smaller pieces that don't give as many stats. If there were Ascended stats across all your items/gear, then you would be able to notice the difference. It's a power creep, but a slower one than many other games have done.

So.....

Is this update going to make it possible for me to play WvW without severe FPS drops?  Going from 50FPS in PVE/PVP to 10 is just crazy...

I can't speak for everyone, but for me personally I'd be more interested in WvWvW if a death didn't require such an incredibly long run, especially when my people are halfway across the map. I understand there should be death penalties, but as it stands the penalty for death in PvE (where it's MUCH easier to avoid) is almost nonexistent while the penalty for death in PvP (where it's almost impossible to avoid) is considerably higher.

Fix the mobility issue and I'll go back to WvWvW. 2 of my 3 characters are made specifically to play in PvP

If they'd make it a lot shorter, you'd be able to endlessly defend objectives by corpse-running. I rather like how it's done now, dying punishes your side.

Yeah.. what pipples mentioned doesnt really work.. All they need to do is make rewards worth it and you will see players flood in.

They need to find another way to prevent perma-defending. I understand your point but the run is still crap. In addition, it's part of the attackers job to kill defenders returning to the site and this is not always done. ANet got lazy about it, that's all there is too it.

I'd say it's an integral part of the design they chose for WvWvW more than actual laziness (which shows plenty, on other issues, don't get me wrong).

I'd rather see them fixing stuff like Warrior Battle Standard elite picking up Keep Bosses to full HP who were actually dead - resetting any and all progress you made at taking said keep. That's just obvious bug abuse.

Rewards would do a hell of a lot for most WvW Players I know and their motivation, but I fear the system we'll get on the 26th won't do the trick, as it most likely will be one of eternal grinding (if the WvW achievements and almost anything else in the game is an indicator) and offer shoddy rewards that will be "must have" but add little to the fun of players. I don't particularly get enthusiastic about carrying 5 more supplies, or doing 10% more damage while I am using a siege weapon - sure, it's great and all, offers some more opportunities - but at the end of the day it does about 0 to add to my enjoyment of WvW (which is still there, btw.).

Not from what they've stated about the update. You're refering to poor optimization and I haven't heard anything on that since release...
