Goodday

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes !

I am looking for a certain item called " Charged shards " I have look all over the internet in search of where I can find these items , to no avail .

So please if you can tell me where it drops , or hoe drops it , It would me dearly appreciated !

Charged shards are low level rare crafting material. They drop from Air Elementals, but I'm not sure what level they need to be.

Have a look at the trading post as well, that would be the easiest.

What do you need them for?

Well I have this plan to make them into charged lodestones , but

It seems half a million other people have the same plan since the remain 88 shard in the black lion trading post , is priced so high it is absurd to buy them .

Now back to the question at hand , we know it is Air Elemantals ,now the the thick is where ?

I think it should be in a place I havent explored yet cause I have never got one before , (79% currently completed map )  so it should be in the remaining 20 %

If someone knows a place , please post it here !

It will cost you about 1 gold (only with Dust and Elonian Wine) and 1.8 Skill points per Lodestone. Since you can sell a charged Lodesone about 3.2 Gold right now, you need to buy 4 Charged Shard at 30 silver each just to don't lose money.  The last time you could order a charged shard for that price was in early December, and at this time you could only sell Charged Lodestone for 2.8 gold. You probably never gonna make gold out this kind of stuff. Even a Core to Lodestone is rarely profitable. Presently you can make about 10 silver per skill points with a Molten Core to Molten Lodestone transmutation, but that is a really poor profit.

Think about it a moment. If you make the map completion, and buy all your skill, you probably gonna end up with about 200 unused skill points. This gonna give you 20 gold of profit. Now think about all the time you need to get those 200 skill points. It take about 5 hours of less to farm 20 gold, does't it take 5 hours to get 200 skills point?? Really not.

Okay true point taken but you see

I will not use the wine to make the shards into cores , cause that will cost silver !

Cause that would mean 4 shards would give me 2 cores instead , what I will do is make 4 Shards into 4 Cores

Now I do understand your point fully ,I worked out the math I got all the stuff needed I got more then 300 Skill points at the moment so and all the rest so ingredients ain't the problem.

The problem still remains where to farm these shards ?

Instead of using wine I will use a " Mystic binding agent  "

So now you really know why I am looking so hard for a place to farm shards ! ?

Sadly even if you do find an area where air ele's spawn. The drop rate of the shards is absurdly low.

Mystic Binding Agents do not mean you use less Shards, Cores. From Shards to Cores, you use 4 shards and 1 MBA to make 2 cores.

From the wiki: "The batched formula allows you to combine 8 slivers into 4 fragments, 6 fragments into 3 shards, 4 shards into 2 cores, or 2 cores into 1 lodestone, where as the original formula would produce 2 to 1 on all tiers."

It's my understanding that you still can't make 4 cores out of only 4 shards.

But if you're still looking to farm air elementals, there's a small group in Harathi Hinterlands near  an Asura's lab in a small cave. I can't for the life of me remember where on the map it is, but I know it's there. I think there's a PoI in the cave, if that helps.

1) Shards to Lodestones = 3 mystic crystals each (~2 SP) or 2 using MBA
2) You really wanna use the laurels for that?
3) Shards drop off air elementals (lvl 60), but they have about the same drop rate as a LODESTONE from lvl 80 elementals. It would be more worth your time getting lodestones than farming shards to turn into lodestones (drop rate may be double, but you need 4x to make 1 lodestone...)

Okay thanks for everyone information !

Now lets the first thing I also saw that wiki page about the binding agent , and I have already tested it with 4 shards and the binding agent you can make 2 lodestones at the end of the day , Now I ain't one to contradict the internet .

But I have tested this using about 8 binding agents so unless they changed it but I could have swore last time I did this I got 2 lodestones ,

Please if I am wrong I am will admit it I am just human .

Secondly moving on topic thanks for everyone again contributing to this question ,

1.Rumstein: Thanks for the information , You see my plan was to hope that the shards would have a higher drop rate then lodestones and thus being easier to farm , Secondly yes cause the only other thing , I would like to get with laurels is 2 ascended amulets .

2.Scorpio spark :Thanks for you information, but I did try the harathi hinterlands and I dint get any shards , And yes there is an asura cave there that has an event that occurs now and then

3Khrushchev : Thanks for your information , Now you see as I understand the binding agent doubles the output of what you would normally get with " wine " now as I stated above I tested it and I could have swore I got 2 lodestones out of 4 shards .

Now If I am wrong with this I am sorry , like I said I am only human
