As the topic title suggests i am of the belief that 8 vs 8 matches are unbalanced.

As the typical trend goes, you cap the close node then zerg for the rest of the match, now this is all good if your on the winning zerg camping close points and farming kills for points, not so much if your on the losing side.

We know these maps were designed for 5 vs 5 match ups so why is there even an 8 vs 8 bunch of servers? and why are they given the priority listing over the 200 something empty 5 vs 5 servers?

I think the inherent problem lies with the way scoring & rank points are awarded and the amount of rank points its required to get any given level, it lends itself to mindlessly zerging groups of people over and over.

What's your take on this?

It would be nice if the 5v5 servers weren't at the bottom of the list, but you'd see more 8v8 filled regardless, if for no other reason than more targets = more glory.

8v8 PvE'd PvP.
8v8 makes for shitty PvP, but I am so completely spoiled by the ease of farming PvP in an 8-man team that I don't want to play 5v5 at this point. As I said, I play PvP as if it were PvE.

Personally, i like to just watch the chaos unfold in an 8v8 it's just fun but when the chaos is coming my way? AWW HELL NO!

8v8 is fine imo in the hot-join servers, as long as tpvp is kept to 5v5.

Surely most people in hot-join are there for fun, dailies and easy rank points?

Spvp is like grind. If you want to experience real gw2 pvp go tournaments. I´m talking from my own experience, i did spvp till rank 20 pretty much, i was starting to get sick on how pvp was in this game, then with my guild we decided to try tpvp and god, its the most fun i had in this game, i regret not trying it before.
