Hey guys,

I need money; and I'm wondering if doing world completion in Magic Find gear is the way to do it?

From the brief stint of karma farming in Orr I did back in October, I have:

1x Full suit of rare 'Explorer's Gladiator' heavy armour (1x Major Rune of Noble, and 5x Superior Rune of the Pirate)

1x rare Explorer's Krait Slayer of Luck (1x Major Sigil of Luck)

1x rare Traveler's Orrian Staff of Air (1x Major Sigil of Air) (Looted item)

Full set of masterwork 'Mithril' jewellery with Opal gems.

I think this gives me roughly 83% magic find, going up to 109% with Raspberry Peach Bars

Is there a point in making a real effort to get an 'ideal' suit of armour, weapons, and jewels with Magic Find?

Should you try to work in other stats as well, or work in the principle of 'it'll die unless you go AFK anyway'?

Is there any advantage to having more than 100% MF? I don't really understand.

In what content would you don all this equipment to get the best return from it all?

What's the best weapon to use for farming? Great sword for mobility and mob tagging?

What's a good farming spec?

Do I need to do any more with my gear, or is it fine as it is?

Orrmap.com - farm orich, etc. while hitting all the mithril along the way = about 15-20 gold a week....just from this with 2 level 80 toons a few hours a night/day.

In one word ''NO''

MF work only for the loot you get from the mobs you killed. But its only good for object that sell at high price. For loot like crafting material, fine or basic or all that stuff you better use a DPS gear to kill more mobs faster.

Completing maps take too long and get you low reward. Its good for leveling and have your little star over your character name or some gift of exploration but that's all. There is so many better way to make gold.

Well you get 2 exotics from completing the 60-70+ maps so you do get quite some gold... But of course, its faster (and simpler) to just farm CoF.

Regarding the advantage of MF gear - There have been plenty of times where I have been running dungeons in full MF set/food and not even get a lousy yellow, while I have done the next path with 0 MF and gotten both exotics and yellows.

TBH its completely random and not worth an entire expensive set. Just eat some food. But if you want an "ideal" MF suit then use a copy of your current armour pieces with 4+2 MF runes is great (cant remember their names, but its not the most expensive MF runes, there are much cheaper options). Combine with food and you reach 70-80%, I cant remember the exact number. You wont loose much in terms of offense or defense, just your regular rune set (and whatever food you normally use, like omnom pie).

True for both statement. You get exotic for completing higher level map, but its take you way too long to complete the entire map. It's not worth it.

This may seem like it, but obviously its not. The drop rate (with of without the MF) is random, but the MF gear give you an advantage, not a random advantage. You need to understand the MF to use it at your advantage. MF don't grant you a higher drop rate, it only grand you a better change to get higher level of rarity. This mean that you have a little bit higher chance to get a exotic over a rare, a rare over a green, a green over a blue or a blue over a white item. The thing is, the MF bonus will rarely be better that the higher speed at which you kill enemies with a full DPS gear. For exemple (made up number) with MF gear you kill 50 mobs in 30mins for 1 Gold, while in DPS gear you kill 75 mobs in 30min for 1.2 Gold. This is mainly true when you far low price item like fine crafting material. But on the other hand, when you farm Lodestone, there is a limited number of mobs and there is usually some people already there. You won't gonna kill more mobs with a DPS gear and each time you gonna get a Lodestone you gonna get 2-3 Gold. So in this scenario you do want the maximum MF you can.

I never bothered with MF. You lose guaranteed stats for a chance at getting better random drop. Doesn't seem worth it when it's all about luck to begin with.

I personally just use some magic find runes (5x pirate) and go to Orr (I use a greatsword and nothing else). You can get a full party and get a lot of good drops. You can get alot of karma+gold from farming the events. Also if you have some extra karma that you don't need go to a karma merchant in Orr and get some of the Jewelry boxes the merchants sell. I spent about 40k karma at a merchant and made about 3g. Course the odds of getting good things out of the boxes are rather low.

I make more money with omnom bars and ac/cof than mf.

You are so right !
I recently took complete gear (exotic) for my Mesmer all in all with two food buffs i have like 230% MF buff, and YES more things drop this is FACT but problem is that this is exclusive to crap drops !!!
I did some experimenting and concluded that MF gear is just LAME well you do get more drops but not of quality but of quantity like those "every mob" drops likes of Pouros Bones and such.
Anyway my mesmer farms lodestones now and get`s exact same number of them (230% MF) like my ranger and guardian (30% MF just food buff) so if anyone wants to go this way i suggest forgetting MF gear and just buy Omnomberi Bars and that magic find buff from gem store, in long run you will get same amount of "wanted" drops at much lighter price then investing in MF gear (not to mention how much esier will be to kill mobs that you farm) !!!

I use full MF gear in only 2 scenarios: Karma train with lots of people (if there are only a few people, you don't do enough average damage to the mobs to get drops, so you actually get less loot if MF gear), and farming lodestones, since I have to wait for the mobs to respawn, and faster killing doesn't really mean anything.

In all other scenarios (running through Orr for orichalcum, karma train with a small group, farming mobs in any other location, such as frostgorge sound) maximizing kill efficiency will net you more drops, and thus more gold, per hour than if you went full MF.

I'm considering getting a second DPS armor set, but filling it with MF runes so I don't lose that much offense but still have a decent MF.

BTW, the MF booster in the anet store is a rip off. Considering the current price of gems, It costs around 11.5 gold to buy the 5 pack of MF boosts. This gives you 5 hours of 50% magic find. That means to break even, you have to make 11.5 gold over what you normally would in a 5 hour period. Probably not going to happen, and that's just to break even. Rip off.
