So I decided to visit taco bell for lunch.  While filling up my fountain pop I noticed some big black carpenter ants on the wall.  I fill up my pop and go back to the counter waiting for my quesdilla & notice all these black things in my pop.  There was like 7 ants in my pop.  I tell the employee & could tell by the reaction it was an ongoing problem.  She tells another employee who walks out with some kind of cleaning spray and shoots it up into the fountain pop nozzles yet leaves it going.

Thing is I had visited the same taco bell about 4 days ago for lunch and thought the pop tasted strange.  Now I know why.

I'm like ok I don't want this pop and will take a bottle instead.  So they tell me it'll be a dollar extra.  I then asked for my money back & left the store.

That would be a terrible experience! I bet you could get alot of free taco bell if you report it to their central office..

Was in a Quiznos a few years back and thankfully noticed, while they were making my sandwich(instead of not at all or after I'd eaten part of it), that the A/C register was dripping into the condiments section of the prep area...after pointing it out, the reply was oh, that's been that way for a while...

I don't eat at fast food restaurants at all, the stench of a McDonalds for example, brings me on the verge of vomiting. And the others aren't any better. People always ask me what I eat if I don't eat the stuff from any fast food change, while I think it's just sad that people are so used to that greasy junk that they can't even think about what else you could eat, while still saving money.
Over here for example, we have wonderful bakeries, where you can get anything from sweets and cakes to fresh sandwiches. And they are practically everywhere. Now I'm not sure if they are in general more sanitary and clean than the average fast food chain, but atleast the food tastes better, you don't have to wait in line all that much (ironically more people go to the fast food changes, thinking it will cost less time, while in bakery you rarely have to wait very long) and it doesn't smell like burned fat everywhere.

That is just not acceptable.  I like to go to run down "dives" and have eaten in former slaughterhouses and boxcars and barns and have never seen that.

What the poster above said.  These big chains have entire manuals full of quality standards.

I asked that exact same question of a privately owned cafe I used to work for that was completely disgusting by every definition of the word.  Turns out one of the founding members of said cafe was also a member of the Department of Health who did the local restaurant health inspections.  Not saying one way or the other, but you do the math. ;)

Yeah i am starting to learn to love bakeries...fresh bread is soooo much better than the stuff you get in the grocery store.  I can feel it in my blood after eating it...it gives instant energy instead of slowing me down.  Some grocery stores have bakeries in them but even then...it's often a day old and made with cheap ingredients.  That's one thing I would happily pay extra for high quality for as long as I live.

On the fast food thing...your best bet is going to a local place run by the owners.  They tend to invest themselves in the quality of the food and take pride in the place.  There are a few places like that near me but the service is slower and more expensive.  Better deal in the long run though and healthier.

Most places hire people at low wages and very little experience or training...you end up with a mixed bag and the ones who don't care bring the whole operation down.

I called the ministry of health when I got home.  My wife had some of the fountain pop the previous time we visited & she's pregnant.  If the pop is full of cleaning chemicals somebody is getting sued.

Oh, that is just lovely

This reminds me of this video where two Dominos employees were stuffing sandwich ingredients up their noses before laying them on the bread...

Ugh. Now I'm terrified something like this could happen in any fast food.

But in Denmark we're lucky.
Every time a restaurant gets a surprise health inspection, they are given a smiley that tells how good they are with their overall hygiene.
Then these restaurants are forced by law to show on their door this report that tells whether they receive a good or sour smiley and why. And if they get a lot of good smileys in a row, they get promoted to elite.

So I'm a bit more reassured I won't get some weird cleaning product in my beverage. =P

Yea, ants are pretty cool, you can usually just fish them out and you get to feel better about yourself while watching them wobble away. Ants are tough as nails.

Some peeps might even pay extra for the syrup coated ants because it's an aphrodisiac or delicacy or something...

It is one of the reasons why I keep away from fast food restaurants.. I'll just prepare myself a healthy dinner at home.

Almost always the better option when available...unfortunately when I used to fly for a living, fast food was at least a tiny step above the vending machine for some needed sustenance...

Woa... that's actually pretty dangerous... we had lots of problems where I live because of people getting sick with A/C drips in the air I think two old people actually died from it.

And for the cleaning spray into the pop... man that's something too.. urg...

For me well my worst experience is when they served my friend an old spaghetti from someone else and cut it into tiny pieces for him not to notice. When he saw that other people with the meal didn't had cut noodles he asked for a new one pretty fast..

I herd Mcdonald is the best fastfood hygiene wise from some people that travel a lot. They have very harsh hygiene policies they say.

On the other I wish I could have seen someone drink ants, spitting them everywhere, and go throw tantrums. It would make such a great past time for the inner sadist me. :D

My wife and I once went to Red Robin's to get burgers and there were ants crawling in her basket with her burger and fries. I worked in the restaurant business through college and have never seen anything as gross as that.

Wasn't some years ago they found a rat in someone's burger? I bet that was more gross. :D

Supposedly happened in a KFC outlet. Probably the world's only finger lickin' good battered and deep fried rat. Rats are actually a commonly eaten item in some parts of the world, but then they're usually skinned and gutted before cooking.
