Any confirmation on whether agony will be utilized outside fractals?

I've noticed that the Laurel Merchant sells infusions that don't have agony resistance and was wondering whether ANet's said or suggested that agony may be utilized outside of fractals. I've not done much fractals, so I don't feel compelled currently to obtain (via fractal relics or through other means) infusions with agony resistance.

However, I also don't want to find out that future content will be utilizing agony after having purchased infusions for sheer utility (like the MF). So is there any word on agony? Should I just stay on the safe side and purchase nothing until we get some sort of confirmation?

Pretty sure I read somewhere that the reason Laurel Ascended doesn't have AR is because open-world doesn't need it.

So I guess no, they aren't in the foreseeable future.

I've heard nothing about agony coming outside of Fractals. But to be on the safe side, I'm going to buy new Ascended rings with the daily tokens (and not Laurels) and get the new infusions for them.

I feel like I won't be returning to Fractals as it is anyway.

In light of this, I guess I may have to eat my words on all I have ever naively said against ascended's legitimacy as a full tier upgrade.

I'm guessing they haven't said anything about future dungeons and agony resistance, but I'm hoping they've chosen to keep agony in fractals.

In theory at some point in the future, they would just add more fractals rather than new agony-required dungeons. As is they force you to go through it 10 times before you even begin to see it. It's not the kind of mechanic they seem to want pugs fresh to a dungeon path to deal with.

I'd be okay with them adding Agony to open-world if they ever create an area that features Mursaat mobs, but only if they make infusing armor less of a pain in the rear. 250 ectos to upgrade a back slot? Seriously?

fractals are, after level 10, not casual player friendly.  Anet fashioned the game to be as casual friendly as possible outside of elite cosmetic stuff, and asscended gear for agony.  

Basically, adding agony changes the focus of a part of content away from casual-friendly to hardcore, which I'm fairly certain anet is not intending on doing any time soon.

I was kinda hoping they would choose to keep the worth of all infusions (ergo, the ascended tier itself) in fractals, not just the agony.

That's what I originally hoped for: ascended tier stats only working in new content and being downlevelled to exotic tier stats in existing content, much like gear and player stats are downlevelled when we play in lower level areas.

It would have completely removed the sting for people who feel that ascended gear is too advantageous in WvWvW, for example.

It could effectively have been if the increased stats were just enough to compensate for the loss of the upgrade slot in exchange for agony resists in infusions, making the tier literally no better than exotics in the open world.

Alas, the fact that they chose to introduce non-agony infusions is a pretty big hint as to Anet's chosen direction.
