I'm having more fun playing through my huge Steam list(of which I still have some games I did not play...I'm guilty =) ).
I'd wish for a sandbox survival game that is fair and not pay to win. Games like WarZ looked promising..but killed themselves by using Pay2Win....
I've given up hope and I'm currently waiting for DayZ Standalone version(which is not MMO in the traditional sense). I really really like the MMO genre but it keeps getting more slippery and harder to grasp once you've played like 10 and if you've been disappointed.
What I can recommand is Secret World if you missed the whole Build Wars from the original Guild Wars...was my favorite part and GW2 lacks that one. Other then that if you computer can handle Planetside 2(mine can't >_>) and if you're really into the whole massive battles and got many friends it can become quiet the thing.

Best PVE-oriented MMO I've played: FFXI
Best PVP-oriented MMO I've played: pre-TBC WoW, EVE, DAoC, and Planetside 2
Now if only someone can bring all those together. GW2 failed miserably. I'm hoping Blizzard pulls a rabbit out of their hat with Titan.
EVE is the closest to perfection you can get in an MMO so far today. The resource grind and combat leaves something to be desired, and the learning curve is ridiculously high, but literally everything else is far superior to any other MMO that it's not even a contest.

Best MMO with cool, but sligthly cartoon like graphics: WOW!
Best MMO with more realistic looking graphics and mature content: Age of Conan! AOC was perfect regarding mature content in the beginning before it got censored in female nudity.
Best MMO later during year 2013 available: Neverwinter! It has been now 100% sure confirmed that Neverwinter will both have ENDGAME and Raids. I don't know if it is even near so hardcore as WOW in loot policy, but certainly much more hardcore then GW2 and raids will be introduced some time after release developers are working on them.
I notice many players say EVE Online. Well unfortunately I have not played EVE so I can't judge that.

- Best PvE oriented MMO I've ever played: Although I hate to recognize, WoW
- Best PvP oriented MMO I've ever played: WAR

It's the first game I've seen that does crafting right. The materials you use determine the stats of the crafted item, as does the quality of the material. You can craft weapons, armor, ammo and even abilities. Gives much more freedom than, say, GW2, where all crafted items are predetermined and have fixed stats.
Like GW2 it doesn't have traditional quests but also uses a system of dynamic events, though so far they're usually just as underwhelming as GW2's.

LOTRO offers a huge world and a great story which expands the lore of Middle Earth that the movies never explained. The gear treadmill is there, but it's less important to parties than some other MMOs, at least on my RP server.

Honestly, if Blizzard FINALLY plays their cards right and create an expansion where the Legion returns for the final battle, then I will accept that WoW is the greatest MMO of all time. Until then, the WoW fan bois are stuck with dumb ass pandas.

I've played every MMO out there and EVE is absolutely the most boring chat filter micro management game ever created. All the big space battle hype you read about is just that. You'll spend most of your newb days fighting npc pirate vessels in a crappy ship while trying to mine asteroids in a generic looking space. Fun stuff.

Sadly, I hear the beta tester forums are a bunch of circle jerking fanboys who don't actually post anything useful in terms of improving the game.

Man, I play in EVE since 2008. And I never get bored. This game is fascinating, every day I learn something new. There is no limits- this is reason why i still enjoy this game, and why I not enjoy GW2.

Objectivelly best MMOs-in no particular order:
WoW
GW2
EQ2
EvE
Personal list:
Aion or LoTRO take the modern WoW's place-WoTLK and before WoW still remains #1 on the loot grinder games.
GW1-tho TSW could replace it(gotta try that one)
Vanguard-shame that it had such a rocky start, it is basically EQ3. Well, maybe EQNext will be the defacto EQ3
EvE-it is its own niche...
AoC-the King of Action MMOs imo.
The best of all time list:
WoW
Ultima Online
Guild Wars 1
Everquest 1/2
EvE

Raiding is definitely one of the things I most miss (mostly due to me rarely being able to do it, curfews ftw!), but having recently played a private server to relive my past, having to log on at "X o'clock" to raid eventually felt like a chore.
GW2 is still the hotspot for me, I don't play any MMO alongside it. The "casual" nature fits well, even though I do still invest a lot of time in (more than I should).
I'm hoping TESO will be good. I've been staying away from coverage of the game as I don't want to be disappointed in it as I was in Skyrim. Being a big Elder Scrolls fan, it'll likely draw me away from GW2 for at least a couple of months, but no more if it is P2P and not F2P/B2P.

Best in what? Fun? Revenue? PvP? For me?
There is no best.

See, that's why there is no best. WAR for me was total failure and disaster. I played Beta since day 1 for over a year. Then release. It had pretty good license but very bad mechanics and ideas:<
Devs didn't listen ppl in the forums at all (in beta).
Name any big MMO and there is 95% chance i've been in beta of it :>

Up and comers? TESO <---not really crazy about, wait and see like GW2 atm.
Mod Note: If you want to discuss GW2, please do so in Tyrian Assembly. This is not the place for it.
