I play with my warrior and always in the middle of battle trying to do max DPS to whoever gets in our way. I run with the zerg and we battle large groups most of the time (Dragonbrand server). I rarely see a drop from an enemy player and get most of my badges from Champion Keep Lords.
I know I can do the Jumping Puzzles and get a better return. The problem is I suck at jumping puzzles and also feel that it is a cheap short cut. I would rather "earn" my Legendary by being Legendary.
Is my drop per hour within the norm?
Is there something I can do differently to help increase this drop rate?

In 20 mins I sometimes gain about 15 badges. On my thief alone...
Usually, joining a party or group in wvw will improve on your drop rate. You need others to tag enemies for you, this should help you gain more badges. Also, join a wvw guild.

That's low badge drop rate if running with a zerg. Are you guys winning the zerg vs zerg clashes ? What about rest of the team, how do they fare for badges ?
I did ask last week during one of the sessions. Think it was 3 hours in and I had 145 badges. Figured that was high for the opposition we were facing ( T1 ) but guildmate had 200 + badges for same session. I don't get to join them daily but we mix things up. 50 - 150 badges per session would be range for me.

Ironically I get less of them playing as a thief or warrior vs. Playing a necromancer. But this actually makes perfect sense because as a necro I have a much greater area of effect and the thief does better than the warrior thanks to the SB.
The whole dynamic is just messed up. While AE attacks and siege gear are vital to put pressure on zergs to GTFO, winning also depends on players individually going in and killing enemy players one at a time. Standing safely behind the front line push and mashing gets you more rewards than getting your hands dirty. I am not saying we do not need those people, sometimes I am one of those people.
Rather I am saying we need a more sophisticated reward system or at least a much more generous one. For example I think if there are at least five enemy players within 150 range of you when you defeat an enemy you should get like 3 to 6 badges. The quality and character of your contributions and the risk taken are not proportional to what you receive at all. This is to say nothing of players who know when to stop and Res so your side does not wipe.
It really is one of those terrible systems in the game. The players who run back to grab supply to build the arrow carts etc. are doing so much more to help their side win than people who just keep fighting and killing constantly. Following dolyaks or intercepting them doesn't get you many either.

I probably see between 50-150 each night I play if I run 2-3 hours. I have seen 15 badges after a single long drawn out fight but those don't happen every day....

Regular ones, 3 maps, around 5 badges per one, thats 15.
EB puzzle, with mesmer portal trixxies, was 15-18 badges.
Take in to account you can do it with a different character, thats 30 badges per character per day. I have 4 80s and a 30.
Thats around 120 badges per day. That's if you're in a hurry. Took me three days

Any time someone is porting for jump puzzles, go get some there then go get your alts and do the same. Badges are account bound. Any character you own can use them.

On a good 3 hour play session it is not uncommon to get 250+ as long as you are grouped, you excel, and you win fights.

Sadly this ^ is true, even considering the fact that you can only do each puzzle once per day per toon.
It's also especially true & sad for guardians because much of WvW is keep seige warfare & for that you need reliable ranged damage.

This right here.
But you know, considering everything I can get with badges is junk compared to the stuff I can get with other currencies (legendary aside, cuz I'm not going that route), I don't care about the badges as much as I do the actual loot. It's always the same thing. I see the box (the chest), I am right on top of it, then the cull bomb hits, I'm dean, no rez, halfway to hell and gone from the nearest waypoint with some SoS creep face-sitting me. By the time I get back... it's gone.

Mesmer confusion build. AoE. Nothing special. Two big zergs facing off and I stayed back and popped targeted AoE and bags kept falling. I didn't even move much. I was pressing F and it kept prompting me to search. This is close to the number because I didn't have my badges in inventory, and when I was done with that encounter it was close to 30 badges.
