Colin: Orange swords in WvW won’t show if there are less than ~25 people after February’s update (unsure exact number) #foodwars

Indeed, a rather good thing in my eyes. It means people actually have to scout and not just look at the map to find out where the enemy is.

But then again, 25 people is rather few and in most cases there will be more than that in any significant fight.

If it also means that the orange swords follow every zerg above 25 automatically for all servers so that no zerg can hide on the map, then the change will be great!

If not, I fail to see the point. What was so bad with the swords? They didnt show anyway for small battles, 5 people can ninja a keep without the swords (well except the keep will be contested as usual).

I'm sure some servers will still find it worthwhile to still roll 50 deep and zerg the life out of us all

Bah, this encourages the zerg even more now. Get your zerg together, have 20 or so beat down the gates, send the full zerg in the lords room and bam. Capped.

This is going to lead to a lot of boring boring hours spent tediously sitting on scout duty in towers looking out for the 20 man zerg ninja (25 is a lot of people these days). As much as I love that they are trying to increase the viability of smaller groups of players, I don't love that the counter to this is to make players bored by having them sit in a tower to perform the role the old orange swords did.

It's too early to tell whether this is going to benefit more than it hurts. I'm guessing it's going to largely depend on how you (ab)use it.

This is AWESOME! Overdue!

Now groups of 5-15 can raise Hell and not set off alarms all over the place!

Better to not have any swords at all, anywhere.

That'd be a coordinated two wave attack, actual strategy for once (except I'd just ninja the thing and not waste a major force on a simple lord's room). Your post is a prime example of how people have abused the term "zerg", now using it to refer to any big force no matter how organized it is, and forgetting to remove the derrogatory connotation from back when it meant mindless mob. This change screws over those "bad zergs" while promoting "good zergs".  *cringes at layman's terminology*

Sorry about that... I'm on Jade Quarry. We have no bad zergs.

We still have the white swords over keeps, castles and camps but i don't think we should get rid of every swords. The whites swords can be triggered orges. bats, harpies, frogs, drege, skirts and people.

Let's be honest here. This whole thing is more of an update than it is a change. 25 people fighting somewhere now is like 5 people were 3 months  ago.

On a side note this was also posted in the same twitter:

Colin: WvW updates will not introduce new skills. Will bring passive abilities aimed towards group play eg. Extra supply

and

Colin: Modifications to the commander book are coming, with more features. Will remain character bound #foodwars

I don't see what purpose swords serve at all.

It would be much more exciting if there were never any alarms other than players communicating with players.

The maps are small enough as it is without needing neon signs every time something happens telling the zerg where to go.

Swords are just a dumbing down of what WvW could be, IMO.

Uhh, in my matchup this is basically like removing them in 90% of all cases.

Quaggans hitting Bay or all enemy forces grouping up for a push on Bay? Who knows.

Pretty much this, and this actually hurts smaller groups as before 15+ coordinated people could take a keep without swords showing anyway

What good is communication to others. Yesterday I caught people on opposing sides talking about what plans were. One side was telling the other where they were attacking, how many golems they had. He typed it in the wrong chat I assume he was in a party with them and typed it in the say chat. The WvW system is screwed up if that can happen unless there is a way to weed the spy out and waterboard em...

The enemy servers won't see what you type in say-chat (nor map-chat for that matter)

I guess you do not understand what I said. They were in a party together, they were talking in a whisper, they guy mistakenly answered in regular chat. So what he planned to say to his buddy on the other side was said to us on his side. Understand now?

And do you have any kind of proof, whatsoever, about him being in a party with them and telling them the plans?
As far as I know it is not possible to party up with members on other servers while in WvW.

You sure can party with whom ever as long as they are on your server. They do not show up as a blue party member but you can chat in the party. I have did this and didnt know it. Had a friend party me and there were people on the other side in the party. No physical proof other than my word and I have never lied to you. ha ha ha

And how do you do that cross-server? :) Which is what this is all about.

Exactly, on your server.
The other side in WvW is not on your server, they are on another server.

Ah ok then I am mistaken about the same server. cause it happened to me and with me I thought they were on the same server sorry... I have a friend that is on the other side in my friends list and I can party with him while in WvW...

Yeah, I understand that. You all transferred there, after all =)

I'm just a lil' worried. When we have 5-10 people and we're trying to dodge 20, we do a lot of map reading to give us an idea of what's happening.

Well that does seem more realistic.  You need scouts to spot army movements that aren't attacking, or to check damage to walls when trebbing.  Leaving a base empty, but having "orange alarm bells" takes some of the tactics out of it.

I recently thought commanders should have field glasses.  So they can zoom in on far away points on the map.

And yes you CAN group up with players on enemy servers.  I was scouting a supply camp recently, and the lone enemy player stationed there sent an invite.  He sent an invite to another player on my server who was there as well......before we took him out.  WHY the feature is there, is beyond me.
