Second Account Vs. Extra Character/Bank Slots?

I was wondering what people thought about this. I've used up all of my character and bank slots and started to think about buying more of both. If I wanted enough character slots to make all the characters I want to make, I'd need 4 more slots. With more characters, I'd want more storage, so I'd get about 2 more bank upgrades. This alone is already over 50$. For nearly the same price I can get 1 more character slot but 1 less bank slot (the character could be used as a mule). Then I started thinking about the recent sales. 20% off bank slots brought the price down to just over 5$ each, but the price of a gw2 account was 30% off (40$), making the thought of a second account so much sweeter. I mentioned this in game and it seemed like people were against buying a second account. What do you think?

Also you wont be able to link another account with your original, if you have one.

I believe the cheapest method is to buy character slots and then form your own guild as secondary storage. There is really no need for another account.

When considering the cost of a second account, you should also account for future expansions. Characters created on the second will be unable to participate later unless you continue to upgrade both accounts.

Never forget that you can buy all these gem store purchases with in-game gold.
Also, take a look at your bank. Item management is far better than just buying more space. How much of that in your bank do you genuinely need? What can you get rid of? What can you sell and buy back at a later date? How badly do you need that level 70 yellow shield?
I've been fine with one bank space ever since the bank expanded to have its own collectibles section. If we could have the same with tokens, I'd not need the space at all.

This. Though, I'm more of a hoarder and I have a lot of account-bound stuff that I don't want to lug around on my characters so I've got 5 bank slots. I got a private guild bank to hold my excess stacks of materials that I'll either need for a legendary gift in the future or that just don't sell quickly at all but I might use in the future for alts. I also keep greens and golds that I end up forging for a chance at good returns/precursors.
An alt account is just way too much effort to hold on to stuff...in GW1 it was a good idea considering the amount of things you accumulate and at a rate much higher than that of their sale. Without an auction house, GW1 storage was at a premium. GW2...not so much but has been kept desirable through account/soulbound status on items.

I think a few things you need to consider is it is very possible that in the future there will be an expansion that will need to be purchased. In order for a 2nd account to remain current you will have to purchase that expansion for that account. Plus to have access to the storage on that account, aside from creating a guild, you will need to log into that account. I would go with just getting more slots plus taking a hard look at what you are hoarding. Aside from things that you will need for your legendary I would just dump the rest. Salvage it or just out right sell it to a merchant, either way clear up space.

its amazing how lazy people are... You prefer to spend 50 dollars in gems? There is an option to buy all that things with in - game gold 10-12 gold per slot is not that much.... its 3 -4 hours playing. But its easier to but all that things with real money and after taht to blame Anet. ANet you took my money !! ye sure

as mentioned before the expansions thing, If they are adding Canthan and Elona, that's 2 guaranteed expansions right there, they could go 1 expac per dragon. and you'd have to double up on that for your characters to stay current. also the issue of account bound items. if you get some thing account bound, you're in a bad situation if the item you have is some thing you want on another account. I'd stick with the one account and buying the add ons.

Many good points have been made. Many things that didn't occur to me have been pointed out, and I'm glad I posted this topic. To the one person that complained about the $ factor, I earn my money, and if I want to spend it on my hobby (as opposed to alcohol and food) I'm going to. Not everyone is as hardcore a player. I've actually become more of a casual gamer since joining the military. Thanks to all replies anyway. I'm going to hold off for now, since I'm not at the point of wanting the other characters/bank yet, but I think I will end up sticking with one account. Thanks again and good gaming to everyone.
