First -  This is not a bitch and moan post.

I've been away for over a month (playing other games, still love GW2, but too many games, too little time).  When I last played they had definitely made a dent in botters/hackers.  However, playing for the first time in a while tonight, I encountered three teleport hackers within an hour, and I wasn't specifically looking for them or doing heavy farming myself.  Have the devs begun losing ground, or was I unlucky?  Kind of disheartening to see it so much so quickly after the long break

I don't think teleporting bots was ever taken care of...

Rather than implementing reasonable movement checks, they just put out several ban waves. Nothing another batch of stolen accounts won't fix.

There's a reason in WoW this kind of thing is instead known as "speed"hacking. Probably because Blizzard was working on it for more than a month before release.

I think you were unlucky. I haven't seen bots in months on Gandara.

Maybe you're just lucky to have never seen them?
AG is full of them and as Thia said, they never seemed to have disappeared. More importantly, you have characters in vanity armours doing this - which means we are dealing with stolen accounts or actual players making a bit of extra on the side.

It never went out of vogue. They have made a big dent in that we tend not to see the armies of shortbow rangers with bears rampaging across lucrative farming locations any more, but the teleport hackers are still... if not precisely common, certainly still present in the higher-end zones. It's probably largely a case of being quite a bit more difficult to pin someone who is teleport hacking rather than more conventional botting.

It also wouldn't surprise me if ArenaNet has decided to focus more effort on trying to find the bug that allows it in the first place - as FoxBat says, bans aren't going to stop the gold sellers from stealing the accounts of their last round of customers, but fixing the opening that allows it would block that form of botting.
Got any comments or queries about moderation in one of my spheres of responsibility? Make sure I get the message!

There are many on my server as well, this is getting out of hand.

Just go camp out at a node in Cursed shore or Frostgorge and ill bet you will see over 20 bots a hour teleport in and out.

Well I mostly meant rangers with bears roaming the countryside, but for teleporting bots I haven't paid attention.

Naked rangers and their bears is passe, naked meeping node toons is the a rage now.

If you want to see some, go camp any rich node and keep your eyes open, i.e. don't blink or look away or you will miss them.

The teleporting node havesters have gotten so fast you barely see them.  Not only can they meep in and out in a couple of seconds, they appear to have hacked the actual harvesting act, as you don't see the harvesting animation now.  They simply meep in, and meep out. Obviously they have hacked the node harvesting so they don't have to waste precious seconds waiting for a animation loop to run.

GW2 uses a very lax game client that handles a ton of stuff most MMO's keep on the server side as a precaution against hackers.

The game is full of bots, hackers, gold sellers and gold buyers....

I see teleporting bots all the time especially in orr and lower level areas, I see hacking in WvW and Spvp sometimes but not too often, gold sellers I see quite alot and you would be surprised how many players buy 100 gold for 15 pounds from the chinese websites instead of the crazy prices offered by Arena Net....and no they don't all get banned or have their info stolen....

Nothing is really hard to get in this game anyway but alot of people don't want to waste time playing the game when it's so boring and easy with almost no challenge except button bashing and afk bashing at very high health bars...

Personally I would not want to risk my account so I would not do it but alot of people do it anyway and think they are completely safe from having their account banned, some have been doing it for months or since launch and never been banned so...

Anet just seem content in adding new rewards for the moment so I doubt any of these issues will be solved any time soon.

It's not like the game is moddable anyway. Can't they just autoban people straight off when they are using an edited client?

It's not just high level nodes.  I've seen bots blink in and out on copper nodes recently.

Boggles the mind why someone would be farming copper at 9c per lump of ore.

I don't know if I have ever seen a bot in this game other than LA gold spammers and ingame junk mails. It is true that I never looked for a bot and, possibly, won't even recognize one unless someone specifically educates me in understanding bot behavior pattern.

Personally, I don't think resource node bots are bad. They keep resource cost down. :)

Lol. You should have been to Frostgorge pre bot ban wave. There where conga lines of 10+ bots running on rails. They are incredibly easy to recognize. Or like 50+ people standing on top of each other in the same position, all rangers, due to a mob that constantly respawn nearby.

Now they have moved to teleporting to nodes. Pop up at a node out of nowhere, chop/mine/gather, disappear and instantly pop up at the next node. Yeah... Not even thieves can do that. I think.

there are still ALOT of bots, they are just well-hidden farming stuff.... swim in the water around the karka island.... I have been reporting bots over 1 months ago and they are still there.
Also ressource node are kinda crazy, you can stay at the node and see 10+ bots in a row connecting collecting and disapear, or teleporting to other node? i dont know, but i dont even have time to report them, they just go too fast.

After the big big wave of ban, anet said they were building stuff to detect the bot instantly and crap like that, the programmer must sleeping all day long...

So apparently discussing game exploits in a constructive manner on the official forums is considered "combative/demanding".  Either that or their definitions of those words simply do not match up with mine.

Your post in Teleport hacking still an issue was infracted by a moderator:

After taking a 1 month+ break (nothing against the game, still love it, just too many other games to play as well), I come back to see that teleport hacking is alive and well.
Haven’t seen a dev update on this in some time (unless I missed one while I was gone). I’d love to be reassured that this was something you’re actively working on.
Here’s my poor layman’s attempt at a possible logic flow:
Check player coordinates
10 seconds later check again.
If distance > than can be reasonably traveled in that time then
Has player used waypoint in previous 10 seconds?
If yes, go to beginning, else flag for investigation.

I'm not normally one to publicly air such things, but I felt this was absurd, and not at all the type of behavior I'd expect from a company that appreciates its (non-cheating) customers.

Posting in the official forums has always been akin to walking on egg shells. If you don't want to deal with your posts being deleted/infracted for the smallest perceived misstep, I would suggest just stop posting there altogether.

It is rather clear that you are not allowed to discuss or report exploits/hacks/bots on the official forums.

It wouldn't have been a reasonable solution anyway. Mesmer portals, Ride the Lightning, so on, so forth.

Many, if not most, of these bots are using characters from stolen accounts. Personally, I think account theft is bad.

Then it is bad. Thou shalt not steal.

To give credit where it is due, I had responded to the contest an infraction link, and the warning was reversed and the post restored.
