From here, you can track where you stand compared to other players in PvE, PvP, and WvW.

I just want to know, when will they update it and how often too. o.O

Do we know how PvP is ranked by chance?

PvP and PvE it looks like it's every hour. WvW is every five days I'm guessing from the time it has listed "Update 4/12/13 6:00PM PDT Next Update4/12/13 6:00PM PDT"

I wouldn't classify achievement points as "PvE." Apparently ArenaNet just did, but that's an incorrect classification.

I would assume that it's based on accumulated Glory, but it's just a guess.

Holy crap, Tarnished Coast is #4? I went there for the ArrPees.

No wonder my ass is rung through the ringer in WvWvW.

The worry is, is that people will see achievement points as the measure of player ability and skill.

I'm really disappointed in the leader board.

WvW ranking is pretty bad. Anet give use a low quality version of this community work : http://mos.millenium.org/matchups#NA

Go check it out. You have the same numbers, which history of all ranking, chart, etc.  This website is way more advanced than the crap Anet give use and the site is active since day 1.

For PvP, like El Duderino i'm still waiting on an explanation on the ranking system, because for now it seem random to me. Its probably not, and maybe Anet found the best way ever to rank pvp. But until they explain it to their consumer, this ranking won't have a real value in my eyes.

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I think displaying players' achievement points may be a security issue.  I have heard (and I acknowledge it may not be true), that hackers look for players with high Ach points as targets for account hacking - cause they must have lots of gold and loot.  One of our guild members suffered from a brute force attack while we were playing one night and he has almost 5000 Ach points. That's when I heard about it.  Granted, hackers can just look for people in game, but displaying the highest members in a public forum (I didn't have to log in to view it) might be dangerous.

OT, but I have a hard time believing it was a brute force unless his password was horribly short and lacking in anything like uppercase lettering.  A password that is 16 characters or more in length (chaining words helps, even in foreign languages) should be hard to crack with what the gold hackers have.

Did they actually get his account or was he just being kicked while they tried bad passwords?

No, they didn't actually get in - he has a super long password.  He just kept getting kicked while the hacker made a couple hundred attempts :(

Does he have the thing turned on where you need to do a separate verify whenever a new IP tries to use your email address regardless of correct password? Seems pretty foolproof to me.

I'm not really sure and he's taken care of it now, but my main concern was the five players who may have bullseyes on their accounts for hackers now. I had heard that players with higher achievement points become hacking targets. Hopefully, they have the proper security measures in place, but.... well, like I said I could just be paranoid.

I don't put anything past hackers and gold sellers. But the ip thing is really pretty good.

I'd still rather take a warrior in full berserker's over a guy with a lot of achievement points.

is something I was proud of. That, and pretty much anything in Portal / Portal 2.

Achievements in GW games, on the other hand, never filled me with the same sense of pride. (Well, outside of maxing Lucky/Unlucky.) Truth be told, I'd love to have an opt-out option which would stop showing a player's progress on the leaderboards: I care more about my privacy than about ANY sort of potential that showing on the boards could bring.

It's nice to be able to see WvW rankings outside of the game, but the other leaderboards only held my interest for a couple of seconds.

In a game with hundreds of thousands of players, the top 100 are of very minor interest to anyone who doesn't know them.  When we get to the point where I can see that I'm ranked 676,235th and can watch that number adjust, and compare it to my friend who is 548,982nd, then it'll be more interesting to me.

Yeah, I could compare myself to my buddies on WoW's system and we both were down the tubes.

ArenaNet... reaching for that brass ring like a fat man with a reaching tool.

Aye, a bit. But its really only about those that can get their hands on the associated email address and whom haven't turned on the 2-step authentication.

But if you're worried about achievement point being the measure of success, quit worrying about being judged and compared. The only things its good for it showing the amount of time invested a player has. Which isn't a bad thing. When the generic looking male <insert profession> loads in my dungeon group and only has 800 AP, you're damn right I'm asking if he's done this before. He has 3k+ AP though and I probably won't question it. If he's played enough to get 3k points, he should definitely understand the game mechanics and be able to adapt. If it requires definitive prior knowledge odds are I'm asking the entire group anyway. I've seen 4k+ players though that were terrible. Maybe they were drunk. Maybe they're little brother was playing. Who knows. But its only a measure of time played and has nothing to do with skill level.

If you're still worried about elitism..well then don't suck.

Leaderboards are a joke at best, considering anyone on top list is there because of grinding their daily since the game released. I am sitting at around 3k because I never did dailies before laurels, even I couldn't fathom the possibility of making it to the top much less a new player.

Another amazing move by ANet, flawless indeed. /sarcasm

edit; just in case people think I'm overreacting about the daily achievements, http://www.reddit.co...evement_points/

yea... 3600+ points that isn't possible to get anymore. GG, meaning they will forever be on top unless they stop playing for like a year and everyone else catches up with grinding dailies lol.

Can't wait to see 'LF4M Fractal 52, Top 100 Achievement only' being spammed in LA.

While I quite like the idea of these kind of leaderboards, without more stats they're rather meaningless to me. (Stats being a more in-depth breakdown of achievements/wins vs x-placed opponents etc)

I never really understood why people have so much problems with leaderboards.
If you don't like them then don't use them.

I will most likely never be visible in the top 1000, but then again I don't care. Why would I? I play the game to have fun, not to get bigger e-penis, which is what a leaderboard is all about. But then again I am fully aware that there are people that only play games because they want to be the best, so good for them.

Again, it comes down to where resources are being directed.  Yes, you can say that the guy doing the Leaderboard isn't the guy working on the game proper, but then that becomes a question of could they have instead hired a guy to work on the game proper instead of paying someone to make the Leaderboard.

As far as I understand it the guy working on this is actually the web-developer. Which would mean that he was hired back in the days for working with stuff on the web-page. And I don't really think there are any that pressing issues on the web-page that couldn't wait for something like this.

Then why did it take so long for the leaderboards in the first place? I mean, I could do what they did in excel or google docs in under an hour given I had access to the data feed. This is wholly unimpressive and I can't believe there is no search function. I learned how to write search functions in intro to programming classes.
