Have I discovered something about the loot table and how it works?

I've been plinking along in Lornar's Pass for weeks now. Jumping in killing a few mobs and then jumping out sometimes for days. But, I've noticed something after getting hardly any or no loot drops for a long long time all of a sudden I'm getting tons and almost on every drop it some nice item no longer quest item or crappy lockpicks or some such from out of the surrounding area.

So, I'm wondering does the no drop loot code kick in somewheres and time and then if you killl enough mobs it turns back OFF? Or is this just coincedental luck? I'm still getting quality loot drops and often in that same zone now today.

I think it's exactly that, but I don't think it's a personal tally, I think it's global and you just so happened to get into it right after whatever "reset" occurred. It makes sense to me at least. It takes me back to the release of the game, when I was seeing a bunch of precursor weapons being pinged in LA from people saying they got them in AC, CM, etc etc etc as regular drops. Then I went and did AC for months, daily, all three paths, and hardly ever got an exotic at all, much less a precursor. Probably because everyone else was doing the same thing.

More like random people still get precursors all the time. There was just alot more people around then, and it was at that time novel enough to bother announcing in global chat.

What a few random people say in chat vs. your own personal experiences is not any kind of comparison.

I wouldn't say that there were more people doing "endgame" material back then than now. And considering how many precursor weapons are on the trading post, they're not that common, either. Only one person in my guild has had a precursor drop from a mob or dungeon. The rest were from the mystic forge or purchased from the TP.

Sorry, but I'll stick by my claims that drop rates decrease in areas where a lot of people are. I led a guild run through CM tonight, two of us got named exotics. I've had named exotics much more often from CM than anywhere else. I'm pretty sure that not many people run CM on a regular basis if at all, since the gear is garbage compared to the difficulty of the dungeon. The only legendaries using the gift of the nobleman are less-popular ones like Moot and Minstrel. The runes from CM are also garbage MF, not very desired either.

On the flip side, CoE is a pretty popular dungeon because of charged lodes/cores and berserker armor (and gifts for Predator and Meteorlogicus, which are pretty popular) and our regular guild runs very rarely result in getting even rare drops, much less exotics. I think it's coded this way to keep the number of rare/exotic drops from any area in any period of time constant.

My theory based on my 2k+ hours of gameplay spent mostly in dungeons and farming high end areas.

I used to get decent drops on the rare occasion I ran SE. Rares, the occasional <80 exotic. Now that AC has been changed and fewer people are running it, I hear that SE paths 1 and 2 are becoming quite common along with the above-mentioned CoE. My drops from SE are now garbage. Also the same with TA, though TA has really always been popular. Yes, one person's experiences. And one person can come up and say that they got an exotic or precursor from these dungeons. But I never said that these things don't ever drop in these dungeons. I just said that the loot tables have been nerfed due to their popularity increases.

What people ping, is alot like an ice berg.  You only see the top, which represents the few who got lucky.  You don't see dissapointing posts from people who get trash drops, just like you don't see the underwater and huge rest of the iceberg.  The majority get zip, they just don't ping about it.  Rnd is Rnd, that means you can see long 'streaks' of good/bad luck.

If you ask me i would say drops in this game are way too random, which gives the whole thing a "lottery" kind of a feel !
Now this way can sound as a fair one but it totally diminishes peoples work and time invested, simply you can invest 1500+ hours and get zip, zitch,nada.....and then some happy slob can get worthy thing like precursor in his like 150 hrs !

To avoid being hypocrite i did got precursor as a drop (but i was on 1360+ hrs) when it happened and it didn`t feel right somehow....after all this should be some epic achievement but ways you get it are so far off anything worth talkin` about !

The entire system for loot should be reworked, dungeons should have random quality loot (emphasis here on random) so that people could work different ones not knowing where the item they want can drop. It makes much more interesting playing dungeon when you have that "hope" today may drop for me !!!
Working it for tokens, it`s just not fun (personal opinion), plus once you finished gearing up your character you don`t have any incentive to go back there !

SE 2 has never really been farmable as it is the longest of the 3 paths by far, unless there is a method to skip a bunch of it that I don't know about.  1 and 3 though are both really short if you know what your doing.

From my personal experience, this idea seems logical to me, as my drops in HotW became significantly after more people started running it because of the glitch to run paths 2 and 3 at the same time, allowing you to get 3 sets of tokens in about 40 minutes or less.  I used to get exotics from there all the time, now I rarely even get bags.  CoF has always been horrible to me as well since it became the mainly farmed dungeon.

The game's loot system needs a change.  There's no reason why the harder, instanced content in dungeons yield generally worse drops than an autoattack spam event in a noob zone or one of the lagfests that are the dragon events.  If I can be guaranteed at least 1 rare from doing the entire frozen maw event chain in 5 minutes or less, then I should be guaranteed at least 1 rare in CoF path 1, and more than that in other dungeons that take exponentially longer to complete like Arah 4.  As it stands, from a strictly economic standpoint you're better off going around doing those DEs with a chest (orr temples included) even if you already got the bonus chest welfare rare than running a dungeon 9 times out of 10 (exception being CoF1 spam).  Even fractals above level 20 don't yield drops as good as the events for me unless I'm popping omnom bars and MF boosters during them, and then like 90% of the exotics I get in fractals are account bound and worthless other than an ecto salvage anyways.

I haven't noticed it in GW2 at all, but in GW1 I used to get up early and hop on for a bit to do a bit of farming. Of course it is anecdotal, but I found I got much better drops, as well as a better chance for greens to drop from specific bosses, in the morning when most of the USA was still sleeping than in the middle of the day.

If they use similar programming for their loot tables and drops, it could very well be like you are describing.

So... who wants to run CM with me at 6:00AM EST? :D

Indeed I meant to say 1 and 3. Thanks for the clarification.
