I've had a vision for a while now for a Guild Wars 2 idea, just for the helluvit. A hardcore mode, akin to WoW's fan made Ironman challenge a while ago if you remember that. This one has the same focus, essentially, to get to max level without dying while under very difficult circumstances. I'm totally open to feedback on this, to help solidify some ideas here or there, but ultimately to get a handle on interest to see what people think.

GW2 Peasant Mode, as far as I have thought thought, goes as follows:

-Must roll a new character
-After the starting zone, must level from level 2-80 without a single death. When you die, delete that character and start again.
-profession chosen must be an Adventurer class (ranger, thief, engineer (for ranger, no pets, for engineer, no turrets))
-must only wear white quality armors that are FOUND, not purchased. No upgrading said armors with gems, runes, crests, etc.
-can NEVER spend gold, silver, or copper at vendors, karma, or Black Lion Trading Posts. However, any money or items acquired may deposited in bank. (except one caveat: see below.)
-no earning money through the BLTP. BLTP is completely off limits.
-cannot spend karma on armor or weapons, including trinkets, accessories, amulets, or back pieces. Everything else is free game.
-cannot learn any crafting professions; experience must be gained from hearts, events, and killing monsters. Which also means no dungeons or story quests.
-the bank can only be used for depositing, no withdrawals allowed.
-cannot join parties or intentionally run with other peasants; this is a solo adventure. Doing events or hearts with other players who are present are fine.
-you're a peasant; no dyes. existing starter brown colors or straight up dye removal only.
-No boosters of any kind.

Now, here's the greatest catch of them all, pay close attention.

-cannot wield ANY standard weapon or toolkits; all weapons used must be an environmental weapon such as rocks, boards, shovels, hoes, etc. The biggest concern with this one, generally, is that what if I am in an area that has no available environmental weapons? Since this is very valid concern, let me remind you that there are vendors throughout the world who sell environmental weapons already (like the ettin in southeast queensdale who sells bones you can swing). Use your karma and (this is the caveat mentioned above) money to stock up on these for when environmental weapons are not found. However you choose to use these weapons is totally up to you.

Mind you, this entirely on the honor system, and purely just for the fun of it. No one is going to monitor your progress except you, so you only have yourself to cheat.

Let me know if you have any questions, concerns, ideas, corrections, troll attempts, flaming or otherwise. If not, have fun with it! Take screenshots and videos and post them here. Tell your story about your lowly peasant!

We already have a few threads about this in the Community Events section:
http://www.guildwars...-man-challenge/
http://www.guildwars...r-presentation/

I'd suggest contacting the OP's of either one to set up your own challenge, or just go ahead and do it yourself and post in that section of the forums.

Feel free to PM me if you have a question regarding moderation, want to leave some feedback, or just want to chat!

Have you ever played a ranger?

Rather odd restrictions. No pets is impossible, no turrets and no ktis on engineer pretty much reads as cant take most of your utilities.

Basically, it  reads "take a thief".

That's... not so bad.

I was expecting worse, like exp can be gained only through gathering or some other peasant-y activities.

No exploring! Peasants do not explore. Pick your countryside village and stay there forever.
Peasants also get intimidated by big cities.

Oh man, not this tired old meme.

This idea pops up early in the life of every MMO in existence.  No TP, only use what you get in drops etc. blah, blah., heard it all before about a zillion times.

Theory boasters love it but in practice if anyone tries it, they always quit after just a few days.

Try it and report on your progress here if your brave.  We will see how far you get.

Those WoW rejects got the Ironman challenge from those of us who created the mode in the original Diablo....

Who cares if it only lasts a few days, as long as it's a fun few days. I might try this when I make an engineer.... together with another peasant friend. Because this is still a multiplayer game... I find the concept of playing GW 2 solo a sad one.

You describe pretty much exactly how I play. I have yet to buy anything from the TP excluding mats to level alts with crafting. I only wear what I find (because I don't buy anything). I don't really think I would enjoy the environmental weapon restriction, I try not to use them for the most part, but people actually already play like this.

Little Mabel won't be able to be here it's our worst fear. She's busy working on her garden that she's growing up in space.

Why hello there forumite. Would you like me to review some moderation you did not agree with? Never fear! PM is here! Want to be a better poster? Check on this link! And this one!

I could see doing self found, no TP, no merchants (except picks, axes), just what you find or craft...

But the whole environmental weapon only thing...no thank you sir.

I'd rather have root canals all day than try that
