Here's my current situation, I'd appreciate your advice:
  • I have 8 characters of each of the 8 professions, all level 80.  Currently all 8 characters are mainly wearing level 80 green armor, trinkets and weapons.
  • Each character has around 100,000 Karma.
  • About 110 Jugs of Liquid Karma in my bank saved up, including one Communal Boost Bonfire.
  • I have roughly 100 gold in the bank (could probably get this to 125 or higher by selling mats, etc I have saved up)
  • Roughly 250 of each: Orichalcum ore, Ancient logs and Gossamer scraps.
  • None of my characters are anywhere near 400 in any of the crafting skills.
  • Roughly 50 level 70-78 Exotic weapons and armor pieces (still tradeable) from completing zones in my bank
  • Roughly 120 Mystic coins
  • 100 Black Lion Salvage kits
I'm simply trying to equip each of my characters with Exotic weapons and armor, including trinkets, etc.  I've read a lot about my options (mystic forge, crafting, Trading Post purchases, Orr karma merchants, Saving for Legendary weapon, etc) but I'm a little bit overwhelmed by the options and unsure how to spend my resources without making a mistake or spending unwisely.

What would you do given my situation?  Thank you.

stack up on karma boosts, chug all of your jugs. buy exotic armor/weapons with the tons of karma you'll get.
Sell the exotics, buy tons of rares, use the black lion kits to salvage for ecto and good sigils/runes sell both for profit.
Sell the mystic coins if you want.

It sounds like you are an altaholic so I would advise against a legendary since all of your time money and effort will go into one character then.

Rares are mostly sufficient.  Especially since we don't know if A.Net will raise the gear cap anytime soon: the last thing you want to do is upgrade all your gear and then find yourself  having to start from scratch.
If you insist on using exotics though, then I suggest you start running CoF: you are going to be making decent money and gaining tokens that you can exchange for berserker gear. Plus each run only takes some 10 minutes, so you should be able to easily squeeze a few runs into each day.

Citadel of Flame runs take about ten minutes or less and give you tokens for the best exotic armor set in PvE, I would go with that.

Bingo.

Do this, OP. I would also recommend deciding on a few characters you like more than the others. What do you enjoy playing the most? Decide on a few "main" characters. I find this game to be pretty unfriendly to altaholics, and you might be better off focusing on one or two characters heavily until you get bored and feel like starting back at where you are now.
Once you pick those main characters, ask around for advice on builds(I'd recommend not directly copying builds, you never learn to play that way) and look at available equipment on the wiki.

As a lazy person who is currently very passively working towards a legendary, I'll tell you that you are nowhere near getting a legendary so don't plan on that. Consider yourself starting from square 1 if you're going to go for a legendary.

^^^ This.

Go deep rather than wide, pick 1-2 at a time. Learn to play them really, really well so you can commit to builds and stat allocations. When you've polished them to your comfort level, move on to a few more. Trying to equip all eight in exotics all at once is probably going to lead to frustration, mistakes and probably financial ruin.

Sell the exotics

I thought you couldn't sell exotics you bought initially with karma because they became soul/account bound. I'm thinking about the exotics you can buy with karma in Orr. Is there another way that I'm not aware of?

I would make a spreadsheet for each character and one by one I would research what armor stats I wanted for them. Then I would find out what sources there are for that type of armor. (Is that type available from karma vendors, certain dungeons, crafted, etc.) If there weren't any pieces I wanted from karma vendors, then I would burn that boost and all those karma jugs and buy orrian boxes - selling all of the byproducts for $$. Otherwise i'd buy what armor/weapons I needed with karma and spend the leftover on orrian boxes, etc..

Next I would check the TP prices for all of those exotic pieces and either sell or salvage, depending on what gave me the best return. After most or all of the pieces sold, then I would take my profits and use them to buy any armor/weapons I could get from the TP.

And finally, for any pieces that were left - I would run that particular dungeon until I got those pieces.

I didn't mean sell the exotics he buys with karma, I meant sell the exotics he has laying around in the bank.

I am in a similar situation from yours.  I have 7 level 80s, with all the other professions, and I am still leveling my thief.

But for me, all 7 of them are already equipped with full exotics.  I would advise:

1. Sell or Salvage (depending on the prices that they fetch in the TP and their upgrade prices) your exotics in your bank.

2. Choose the builds that you want for each of your professions.

3. Then decide on the armor each of them would have.

4. Use your karma as much as possible to get temple exotic armor and/or trinkets, if they have the mods you want.  Alternatively, get the exotics from dungeons like CoF.  I hate grinding dungeons which is why I usually buy/craft or use karma to get my exotics but that is up to you.

Personally, I feel richer and happier without pursuing overly-hyped skins like legendaries, but that is up to you too.  I would upgrade all my characters first before pursuing legendaries but that is just me.

Ahhhh, that makes sense. Dang! I was hoping there was some way I hadn't heard of yet to turn karma into gold.

First thing I would do is really decide a few characters to focus your gear attention to. Preferably the ones in which you enjoy the most. Also decide if you really want a Legendary, that will change what you do with your resources.

Decide what your trait/build preference for a class is, then buy the Karma gear that suits that style-you won't be able to get full set this way.  Fill out the rest by picking a dungeon that has armor with the right stats.  Since you have so many alts, it will be very easy to get enough tokens quickly by hitting one of the faster paths several times in a row on differnt characters to max tokens per hour.

I would figure out what runes and sigils are worth money on all the exotics you have saved up in bank and Black Lion Salvage those.   I throw the exotics around 1g in value in the forge-you will either get something really nice or a max pearl weapon you can probably use.

Just farm dungeons and use the money to buy the accessories.  Do fractal 10+s till you have the rings, convert the karma into boxes for more money.  Buy armor pieces like chests and legs and use tokens for the rest, with 'meh' groups you could manage about 3 runs per 2 hours, also depending on dungeons being ran.

Also, if you don't care for fine-tuning every little bit, just buy lvl 76-78 armor/weapons for half the price, they're just as effective from my experience.  And I've got quite a bit of that, still using lvl 78 weapons well into 80.

Well, for some unknown reason, it's socially acceptable for people to be obsessed with sports, but not with video games.

I work full-time, I don't have the energy when I get home to go out and play sports or anything like that...not to mention I simply do not find sports fun in any way (either to play or watch). I relax with a game or a book.

Anyway, why not sort through the exotics you have stashed already to see if any of them fit the builds you're running on your characters? Start with that, and then work from there - take the few characters you play the most and work on them. Sell the exotics you're not going to use, and use that money as well as your karma to outfit them. If there's a certain stat type you like, check out what dungeons give them and if you like that dungeon, run it for tokens (contrary to popular belief, CoF and berserker gear is not the only - or best - option out there). With the amount of stuff you have stashed away it should be easy to get at least 2 or 3 characters fully outfitted.

Also I tend to worry about accessories last. My mesmer - who is my main - only just finally got full exotic/ascended trinkets a few weeks ago.

I have seven characters at 80 right now, and generally I try and outfit them as soon as they hit 80 so I don't have to worry about it - but at the same time I don't worry too much about wanting 100% exotic on everything, because it's just not really necessary for 99% of the game.

Thanks for all the replies to a complex question.  I appreciated it.

I think I'm going sell all my materials for gold and upgrade through the Trading Post (for exotic runes, sigils and weapons).  And keep karma farming for most of the exotic armor.

With some of that gold, I'm debating on created an additional Magic Find armor set for one of my characters using rare armor.

1) Sell or salvage any non-80 exotics and rares and L80 stuff with mismatched stats. Use BLS on exotics which have expensive runes/sigils
2) Research karma armors and accessories. Remeber that while karma armor is bound on acquire, rings are account bound and chracter bound on equip, so you can buy them all on one character which has drank all the jungs under maximum boosts, research stats and decide what to buy.
3) You have enough to craft 4 mystic weapons, research stats and decide what you want.

It might be worth it to level-up crating professions that have major overlap (i.e. Tailor to equip your three scholars or leatherowrker to equip three adventurers.), work out the costs over paying-off TP, make shipping list for weapons.

Jewelcrafter is cheap to level and makes items that every class can use.

Do not buy exotic amulets, instead use Laurels for Ascended stuff and use green on other characters untill you have money to "Waste".

If you know what you will buy, make buy orders - there is no penalty to making outrageously low buy order and canceling it if it does not work out, and you can easily end up with nice discounts.

Just to let you know A-net has plans to remove magic find from armor and implement it in a different way as a heads-up.

Im basically in the same boat as you are. 6 level 80's 1 close to 80 and 1 lowbie.

Like others have said, narrow your equiping process to 1 or 2 (max) toons a time.

That being said you have some nice options, considering your unspent fortune:

1- Craft the gear yourself, this will require some craft leveling, which shouldnt be a problem since you have the mats. You'll save money and get the stats you want.

2- Run dungeons, this can take time if you want full sets, cof is the one everyone and their dogs wear, if you want to have your own look you would then have to invest in transmutation stones probably. but there are other good looking sets.

3- Karma sets, you could possibly equip 2 or 3 toons in full karma gear with the jugs you have stored probably more since i havent done any math.

4- buy directly from the tp.

5- Use laurels/guild comendations/ fractal rings to equip the trinkets on your toons.

6- for weapons, runes and sigils, buying in tp is probably the best option, level 80 exotics are fairly cheap and some have nice skins. as for the stats you have to look for the one you want.

If i were in your shoes i would vary the method, and put more emphasys in the toons i liked the msot for better looks, while having the rest using armors just for the sake of having the gear completed, even if just rares.
