Hey there, I played GW2 a bit back at release, stopped, sporadically played it here and there, stopped and now I'm back to sporadically play it some more.

Yet I am left wondering how this game has changed since the release, has it become better or worse, has the community shifted into permanent late-game so nobody ins the lower levels?

Aside from that I'm also wondering about various viabilities of previously unviable weapons, if any new weapons have popped up or any other major skill/weapon changes might have happened.

Lastly I'm wondering what you guys think is probably the worst profession at the moment.
:D

Dailies give laurels which can be spent on ascended gear amongst other things. Ascended is the new exotics at ten times the cost for a small boost.

They're rebalancing classes and focusing more on balance for a bit. They're even working on fixing the AI to make pets and minions viable.

You weren't here last week? You missed an exclusive chance at many mini pets only in the gem store! Don't worry! This week you have ANOTHER exclusive chance at ANOTHER mini! DON'T MISS YOUR CHANCE! GIVE US MONEY!

New weapons have indeed popped up! Gem store! 1 in 8000 chance from our lotto-boxes!

Over-all, it's the same game they're trying to polish with a heavy focus on their gem store.

What Darkobra says.

It's slightly more polished, but your experience won't vary much from when you quit.

Pretty much if you have managed to disconnect from it, you can get a fresher experience by playing a number of F2P MMOs, without feeling the need to invest in it.

Rotate out, give no money unless you absolutely must (I paid 10 bucks for DCUO DLC to get access to the Green Lantern powerset this week).

If anything, these policies force players who are more frugal to not play their game constantly and instead get their freshness from a variety of other MMOs as they update.  I am not sure what the goal is there, but its not instilling any form of brand loyalty from me.

My largest annoyance with this method is that I like to PvP in MMOs and that requires substantial commitment for competency that I'm not willing to give one game for being so stale and bland with its updates, particularly in a poorly balanced environment, not just between professions/classes, but also in terms of mechanics.
It's okay to enjoy crap if you're willing to admit it's crap.
Every patch is like ArenaNet walking out onto the stage of the International Don't Kitten Up Championship, and then proceeding to shiv itself in the stomach 30 times while screaming "IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!"

For me, the game has gotten a little stale but I still play when there is new content, such as this weekend! The 2 buffs (200% gold find and 200% magic find) in the Southsun Cove area finally made me feel like I was earning something. It's still a beautiful game with its share of problems but I still enjoy it when I play, usually for 2-3 hours.

This post perfectly encapsulates everything that is wrong with GW 2 right now and why their perverse mentality is just throwing salt in the wound. Truly timeless response <3

Don't forget the "living story" which is neither living or a story.

Don't forget that they have several people quietly quitting the company ... and their community and support teams are becoming even worse.

New stuff to do? Guild missions ... grab a zerg of people and zerg PvE content ... wait, that's not new.
WvW is the same.
sPvP is the same except now you can now be an observe ... so you can watch the "same old sPvP"
PvE is the same.

It's pretty hilarious that people coming back can't do SAB or the F&F dungeon. Actually it's not that funny, more like really stupid.

Haha yeah the "living" part certainly amounted to nothing in the end.

Agreed. There needs to be a way to replay that content, even if it's not in the open world. Like a "Storyteller" NPC in LA that you can talk to and he'll "tell you the story" (AKA you get to play) a chronicle from the past.

They also said during BWEs that we'd be able to put 2 sigils on 2hand weapons ...

... when it comes to ArenaNet these days, I'll believe it when I see it. I have no faith left in them.

The game has a lot of new content. In every way. You will need some time to catch up to all of them.
People are angry because new weapon skins that can only be obtained via RNG, which is not cool.
The living story is cool. It slow, but it's cool. Can't get why these guys are saying that is neither living or a story, which I find to be false.
The classes are not so unbanlanced that make the game unplayable, its fun and not broken.

I think they hatin'.
Anyways, I really need them to clear out their previous posts. If they can manage to do it in a educated way.

What new content is this?

WvW? Same maps. Same NPCs. Difference? there's WvW levelling. Same activities. Same scenery. Same objectives. Now you just get a reward for doing what you already did?

Dungeons? AC has changed ... though I don't see anything worth writing home about. Everything else is the same. F&F dungeon is already gone.

World PvE? Several dead zones. Lots of people farming. Groups zerging PvE content. Same as before.

sPvP? One new map and spectator mode.

Lots of people leveling alts and trying new things as old things become old hat.  There have been a great number of small, monthly updates.

Apparently this is the plan going forward, with little to zero talk of any major expansions in the works.

It's disappointing, but I'm still satisfied with the game going forward.

You keep mentioning what stayed the same. Here, I'll show you how to mention new stuff:

1. WvW levels and skills, which range from unlocking new abilities on assault weaponry to gaining more defense and attack agaisnt the different dangers of WvW. We also got new tittles, more ways to get experience for your WvW levels, WvW daily coming up in a few days, moved the JP out of the mists, new WvW match balance, WvW traps (like anti-stealth  and drop supply kind of thing)

2. Not much love to dungeons. :P

3. World PvE, we got the Living Story which has taken us through a consisting story that began with Dredge and Flame legion forming an alliance. "The Fire and Frost" saga brought new events, scanvenger hunts, new weapon skins, new heroes that will stay with us through Gw2 (Rox and Braham) and lastly a dungeon that is sadly gone, but the ones who were present did enjoy. Now the story progresses to Southsun Cove again as a result of the FF events and we got new sack of events, a mini game and are getting a new dungeon (don't know if temporal) and possibly see Southsun become a new city. All that besides new bounty, rush and trek locations, a few changes in some skills, new ascended items, laurels, pick-your-daily thing, and new items in general. Recetes, new events overall. New event scaling system. Super adventure box (was awesome.) and with it new weapons skins again, new minis, new titles. And its coming back.

4. For last, in sPvP we got a new map and a new game form, spectador mode and custom arenas (you gotta pay for the last ugh), constant balancing, spvp daily and monthly, new skins, new titles and achivements if i'm not mistaken, and that's about all.

That's whats new. Really, what game are you even playing dude?

And I'm just talking about this year alone...

@Dax:

Your 1 ... I mentioned WvW levelling. Is it giving you something new to do? Nope. There's no new content. Just a new carrot dangled in front of you.

Your 2 ... yep, we agree there isn't crap for new dungeon content

Your 3 ... living story was done in a day if you just went through it ... and now it's gone so what exactly are people going to do with it?

Your 4 ... same game types ... one new map ... having the option to watch people isn't really "new playable content" ... nor is balancing "new content" ... nor are skins, titles, achievements, dailies, monthlies. Those are not "new content". That isn't something new for you to do. That is merely new carrots dangled in your face to incentivize you to keep doing the same crap you've been doing since September.

New content would be like when WoW introduced Blackwing Lair. New content would be if Southsun Shore had been implemented with reasons for people to actually go there other than to farm karka shells/passiflora for apothecary gear (or gold).

New content would be new ways to play sPvP. Not just the same boring mode that penalizes class that are strong in other areas of the game (poor Thieves, lol).

New content would be something that when I get on isn't the same as what I did when I got on back in September.

Do not confuse "new carrots" as new content ... they are not.

You got me to wut. That's not good.

Let's start from the basics.

New: Just found, discovered, or learned.
Content: The individual items or topics that are dealt with in a publication or document. Often used in the plural.

Based on that, we can say that everything in Gw2 that did not previously existed and exists now is indeed "New Content". But, you seem to mean by it (and I find it to be fair), that "New Content" refers to new places to go and things to do. Well then, under that concept there are still many things that fall beneath it and that (maybe coincidencially) you forgot to mention (or trash). I'll mention them so you can better identify them and explain how they are not New Content:

1. WwW: Skills and traps.

3. PvE: LS events (which by themselves pile up to at least 30 new events and things to do), items, dungeon, SAB, new events besides the ones that happen for LS, guild activities (over 10 bounties, over 20 treks, a lot of rushs, guild jumping puzzles, guild challenge).

4. Isn't capture the fllag kind of thing in the Spirits Arena a new game mode? Not sure if troll.

If you go by that definition, then all the "pretty skins" qualifies as "new content".

In WvW, yes, there are "new skills" and traps. However, it is still "zerg the camp/tower/keep". Same activities.

In PvE
  • Living Story events weren't anything new. Slapped some new skins on existing content, insert it into zones that don't have that content yet, call it something "new and exciting" ... The only new type of NPCs introduced were the Protector's with their circles. Also, most of the Living Story content is gone/dead now. The dungeon was fun for a run. After that people suffered through the long trash mob slaughter in order to stand in the corner for one boss and under the ass of the other boss. It wasn't exciting. There was very little that was new.
  • Items are not "new content". They are new skins. If something "shiny" holds your attention for more than the few seconds it takes you to look at it and admire the artwork, then good for you for being easily entertained.
  • There aren't new places to go to. There is not new content to handle. Southsun Shore is still a place you go to either farm Apothecary gear or "because you're bored and nothing else to do but chase crabs".
In sPvP: Yes, there is a capture the flag element in the latest Arena, however, those games are still won/lost based on control of points. Watch what happens in high level tPvP. It's merely a mechanic change. Instead of having 2 NPCs you kill for bonuses or cannonballs you could fire at enemies, there is a "flag".

---

The difference between you and me, Dax01, is that you find very small changes to be "new big things". I do not. If something can be done in an hour, it will take an hour of my time and that is it. If it isn't actually fun enough to repeat, I'm not going to do it. There are others things in life I could be doing instead of repeating boring content out of some sense of obligation from having bought the game.
