Now I don't care about Legendaries and all that gaudy armor stuff I just want a full set of MAX GEAR (armor and weapons and offhands (torch & shield & focus) and best inserts to use. I tend to go Power-Toughness-Vitality with maybe a lil Precision. So whatcha got out there that will work and is cheap? Key word CHEAP like the cheapest way to gear up once one reaches 80.

run Ascalonian Catacombs explorable over and over until you have enough tokens to buy a full set of armor and gear. it has power/toughness/vitality armor. use the gold to mix in some knights gear if you want precision along with toughness and power.

Orr karma vendors also sell armor and trinkets with Power/Toughness/Vitality stats.

As for the dungeon, to enter you have to have completed the story mode OR have someone in your party who has completed it and have that player enter the dungeon first.

yeah that's what I thought as I recalled reading that somewhere. So can max gear be crafted? I'll just buy it if it can. I don't care what it looks like just as long as it's max.

Yes, but that particular stat combination (Power/tough/vit) is not available through Armorsmithing.

Edit: I meant soldier's stat can't be crafted, but sentinel can which is similar.

Get rare armour with green accessories. Rare 80s drop from dragons and you should be able to get a full set for around 1 gold. Green accessories are a few silver each.
And then based on what you'll continue doing, get exotics from there: if you decide to continue playing, that is.

Don't rush exotics: there's really no point.

EDIT:
And do yourself a favour and try berserker rares.

what's this have to complete the meta of a particular area to talk to the exotic vendor? Do I have to do some group event to just talk to a vendor? I want Melandru armor type it has the best power-tough-vitality groupings.

the Orr vendors only appear for a temporary amount of time after the major event has been completed.

Well I don't believe things necessarily change when you hit 80. There is actually plenty to do and see while on the way to 80, however reaching that level just means it is now less risky to travel to level 80 areas and to wear what is currently max-stat gear.

Others have answered your question about power/toughness/vitality gear. This is a good starting point but a better balance would be knight's gear which is craftable through leveling armorsmithing. It offers great survivability still and still offers some damage. It's a case of 'buy wrong, buy twice' if you went with soldier's gear. In the current state of the game, soldier's gear is not well respected although it's actually good for what it does offer: survivability and in spades. My elementalist was the first of my toons to get full exotic armor and I ran the AC explorable dungeon over and over again till I had enough tokens to get the full set. My guardian on the other hand, uses knight's armor and weapons with some berserker's ascended trinklets and some knight's accessories which have not yet been upgraded.

The general consensus at this point for guardians is to either run knight's gear and be a semi-tank or 'anchor' guardian with a 0/0/30/30/10 setup or get full Berserker's gear and play aggressively with something like a 10/30/0/30/0 setup. Or an additional consideration I've been making is the use of Cleric's gear but only in WvW for s**** and giggles. There are also people who use Magi's gear but I cannot comment further on these since I've never used it myself. See the guardian PvE forums for more info on builds and gear. Do read carefully before you buy/ craft your armor and weapons.

Soldier's Gear (the Power Toughness Vitality armor/weaponset) is probably, imho, easiest to get with mostly karma and then badges for the rest.  I run Soldier's Armor/Weapons on my Guardian personally and this is how I got mine quickly.

You can get Soldier's boots, legs, chest, gloves, shoulders... but not helmet, with just karma.

http://dulfy.net/201...rma-armor-sets/

You mentioned you want the runes of Melandru too?  If you're set on that I think you're only choice is to get Aurora armor, then buy the armor with the right stats, and use fine transmutation stones to create the set you want.  I'm not even sure if you can salvage karma armor, I've never tried.  I know you can salvage dungeon armors.

Soldier's jewelry isn't hard either, it's silly easy.

http://dulfy.net/201...temple-exotics/

For the upgrade since there is no Soldier's gem you can either go with Crests of the Soldier, or if you don't want the power and just want maximum stats, the level 80 Exquisite Azurite jewels are probably your best bet there (these can be crafted).

The helmet you can't get fromany Orr set so I got one with WvW badges + gold.  I got my Soldier's Weapons the same way (Soldier's Gear is called Invader's Gear at the vendor).

I agree with a previous poster though, think about your gear carefully before getting exotics.  I do run Soldier armor/weapons on my Guardian, but I do so for a very particular reason.  I also don't run the run of the mill build either (nothing wrong with run of the mill if it suits your needs), mine is strictly for WvW and probably wouldn't be the best thing for PvE stuff at all.

Personally I've found Knight's/Cavalier's to be pretty nifty.

Anyway Ascalon Catacombs is viable too, but honestly I don't mess with dungeons any more.  They bore me to tears.

I'm intrigued, what trouble are you having exactly?

There certainly are spots in Orr where it's stupid to try to stand and fight because you can aggro too much too easily, and I admit every once in a while if I'm in Orr for some weird reason (not that I go there much any more, last time was to finish leveling my Guardian) and I'm not paying attention I can run into like 7 mobs and die.

But if you're alert and just run past spots like that, it's really not that bad.  Don't try to fight everything on the way just run past most of it, honestly.

here you say you dont care for "all that gaudy armor stuff" but then you want "MAX" level gear. . . this seems to be a bit of contradiction.  MAX gear is the gaudy stuff.  MAX gear is a full set of exotics with superior runes, and infused Ascended trinkets/back piece/earrings/rings with the omni infusions (+5AR +5 X).  thats Max gear and its guady as hell.

does 'cheap' signify 'less effort'?  because in order to fulfill your first request, you - contrary to popular belief - must put in a considerable amount of effort.

see, im the best in slot kind of guy.  its a personal satisfaction thing to have BEST. IN. SLOT.  so i have the omni infusions (i use +5 AR +5 Precision) and they aint cheap (250 vicious claws) - then there is the RNG factor of landing a glob of fractal essence/vial of fractal essence etc.

so what do you mean, cheap, MAX gear?  i dont think its possible.  theres the cheap fast easy way, then there is the time consuming, effort applying, expensive and sometimes difficult way which happens to be the only way to achieve true MAX gear.

Dufly has a complete gearing guide available: http://dulfy.net/201...-gearing-guide/ . Have a read and you can pick and choose where you want to go for exotics. I personally recommend mixing up methods as doing one the whole time can be tiresome.

If you want soldier (power, toughness vitality) gear the easiest way of getting exotic versions is from the temples of Orr. You'll have to visit different temples in order to obtain a full set. As stated earlier you can also visit Ascalonian Catacombs to obtain tokens, running all 3 paths will net you one armor piece (cheaper pieces though) and they're quite fun so I recommend doing them at least once. You'll also get gold and karma which you can use to get knight's pieces and Orr Soldier pieces respectively.

I say get a set of rare/yelllow berserker armor. You can also pick up a rare amulet and rings for pretty cheap, I would stick with green earrings for now. They are way too expensive. you can do this for about a gold and your only about 10-15% less effective stat wise than exotic. And a huge boost from whatever you wind up with when your leveling.

Then figure out how you want to earn exotics, there are plenty of ways. Cheapest money wise, use karma for crappy gear, dungeon grinding, or WvW badges, no money involved. Cheapest time wise, spend $20 on gems convert it to gold and buy it from the trade post. After that, its all about doing dailies, monthlies, and/or farming fractals for Ascended/Pink gear.

If you know how to dodge, skip the soldiers armor. Guardian has some of the best built in defenses in the game, no need to go soldiers in my opinion. The only exception would be clerics, and even that is kinda iffy seeing how healing power doesn't do much anyway.

What class are you playing? Since you mentioned torch, shield and focus I suppose it's a guardian. As a guardian you probably don't want to go full berserker, but somethink like knights armor an berserker trinkets. You can farm your armor from dungeons easily, but with bad gear it will take a while, so I suggest, you get the best gear you can afford at the moment. Level 80 Rare armor and masterwork trinkets is probably a good start. As soon, as you get enough dungeon tokens replace your armor with exotics piece by piece. As soon, as you get enough money upgrade your trinkets. Also do your daily and monthly achievements to get 30 laurels and buy an ascended amulet (I would keep a masterwork and upgrade straight to ascended, no need to get exotic in between).

Of course the stats are an example, go to the guardian form area and look for a build, you may want to decide, before getting exotic and ascended stuff, so you don't have to get another set later.

I skipped a large portion of the personal story too so you won't get lost by not doing it (though it does introduce you to new maps if you aren't keen on world exploration)

There is no cheap way because obtaining a set of max gear (Exotic Grade Armor and Weapons, Exotic Grade Add ons, Exotic Grade Accessories), because you either have to put in a lot of money, a lot of time, or both, especially for a new player.

For dungeons, whenever you hit the level requirement for a dungeon you should have gotten a mail showing you the location of the dungeon, if you skipped those, go back and look at them. Skipping content is a surefire way to bore yourself quickly

for intermediate gear before you get exotics, try rares from either the trading post or from world boss events

To be clear: There will be Ascended weapons.  When Ascended weapons are released, Legendaries will be upgraded to Ascended stats.

There will probably a variety of ways to get Ascended weapons, you won't need Legendaries to be best in slot.

nd/or farming fractals for Ascended/Pink gear.

This is the part I mean by gaudy gear ^ if it's the same stats and only different colored then I don't care about it. I just want some armor I can solo pretty well with and farm animals and stuff for chefing. I don't care about ascended armor unless it's actually better in stats than a set of Melandru armor (that was my choice from ORR karma armor) Then I want a good scepter and mace and a good shield and torch (those are my weapons of choice farming and doing bosses) What I will do next is the jewelry I get at 80 from whatever place will be precision focused so I'll have Power, Vitality, Toughness and Precision with whatever best comes with the trinkets and stuff like healing power or conditions.
When I say max stats I basically mean Max Armor stat like I think it's 363 for Heavy armor for the chest piece and then I'll add toughness to increase. I've seen some 298 and 321 lvl 80 chest pieces but I want the 363 models. :{P

well actually ascended equipment is an upgrade in stats, just very miniscule, the difference between a Berserker's (using zerk as a reference because that's all I wear) Ring + Jewel and the Berserker's ascended variant is 12 power 6 precision, and 2% crit damage

the difference may seem small at first, but when you get down to the percentages, it's big enough to warrant a grind on at least your main:

Exotic Berserker's:
92 power
63 precision
+6% crit damage

Ascended Berserker's:
104 power
69 precision
+8% crit damage

or a
13.5% increase in power
9.5% increase in precision
33% increase in critical damage

if you manage to stack the 5 current available ascended slots together you get a pretty notable difference in stats

of course that's all up to you, as of right now having or not having them doesn't make much of a difference on gameplay, not enough to be getting them on all of your characters imo (I only have ascended stuff on 1 single character) but it might in the future when all the ascended weapons, armors, or legendary armors start showing up.

Buy your exotic armor with karma, your exotic weapons cheaply on the TP, then farm for decent skins to switch the weapons over to cool looking weapons.

That ^ sounds like the way to go for me as karma is basically free and easy to get. Spend a few coin in the TP for weapons an offhands and away I go. I just wanna make food stuffs and so most of my time after I get this stuff will be gathering, doing dailies and cooking. On work days it'll be mostly doing dailies and cooking on the weekends. I always liked crafting most in these MMO's and I surely miss Star Wars Galaxies harvesting and crafting game. They should let us build camps in the wilds and cook without having to buy that crap in the TP. Camping and harvesting in SWG's was fun I had some luxurious camps. :{P
