Somehow a lot of people are getting banned when running it, could have to do with them falling down and the game client registering it as teleporting.

Here's some proof I have found :

http://www.reddit.co...ggering/car9h7i

http://www.reddit.co...nt_tell/car25lg

http://www.reddit.co...cheated/caqrpz6

http://www.reddit.co...cheated/car6d0h

If possible, can someone open a support ticket to A-net for them to investigate this issue, this is quite a serious issue and could result in MANY illegitimate bans (I am currently at work, and unable to).

It's okay to enjoy crap if you're willing to admit it's crap.

I'd love to see the budget for Q&A on this.

I wonder what "extensive investigation" ArenaNet did to approve these bans.

I'm not sure whether to say "Working as intended" or "when it's ready"...

Did something change here recently or for the last year has either A)Anet not really looked into this kind of cheating or B)The jumping puzzle has been so deserted on every server that they never noticed it?

Probably a not-thoroughly tested system designed to automatically detect hacking in order to cut down on the number of warm bodies you have to pay to manage your game.  Better to have a computer replace a majority of your hack investigative workforce, and make sure you get that system thoroughly tested and vetted by the QA team that checks your content updates... they can't even tell catch Inspector Kiell getting bugged in the instance, but they'll catch that 'Oh shit, on this JP, we could get banned!'

The potential damage done to your reputation and player-base pales in comparison to the damage done to your in-game economy if gold generation went up through teleport hacks instead of good old fashioned nose-to-the-grind stone CoF P1 farming... or through money->gem->gold conversion.

"It's probably because ANet cheating detection software records player position and recognized a very fast movement without waypoints as cheating (much like what happened in the past with super-fast-flying players stealing orbs of power in WvW)."

The email that the innocent, wrongfully banned people got from Anet:

Quote

We have complete confidence in our detection and in our decision to terminate the account. Therefore, we will not accept an appeal in relation to this account termination.
The decision to terminate the account is final. This decision has been thoroughly reviewed by our team, and we maintain absolute confidence in our conclusion.

I guarantee this colossal ♥♥♥♥-up won't get the attention it deserves.

Chris Cleary said:

Hey all,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, I am investigating the relation between these bans and the Metrica Province jumping puzzle. More info to come as I get it.

Update 1: I am currently looking into the following tickets 130609-001367, 130615-001922, 130626-000025, 130626-000469, 130626-001168, 130626-002870, 130625-003163, 130625-003033 // Note: Investigation into your ticket does not necessarily mean that your ticket status will be updated

Update 2: An issue has been identified that is responsible for this occurring, and it has been resolved so it does not occur again. As for the already existing bans caused by the MPJP, I am working to resolve your issues shortly. Updates to follow regarding cause and some more juicy information.

That's what you get for playing the game. If you didn't play the game then you wouldn't have been banned from the game that you were trying to play by not playing.

I am really looking forward to Anet's response to those people that were banned and recieved this reply upon their first appeal

"  We have complete confidence in our detection and in our decision to terminate the account. Therefore, we will not accept an appeal in relation to this account termination.  The decision to terminate the account is final. This decision has been thoroughly reviewed by our team, and we maintain absolute confidence in our conclusion.  The account will remain permanently closed and is not eligible for reactivation under any circumstances."

then the second appeal...
"I want you to know that we take great care when analyzing accounts prior to termination. NCsoft support staff is both diligent and conservative in determining which accounts are using these programs, and we only terminate an account only after we are able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that such use has occurred  As previously mentioned, we are confident that our detection systems are accurate. A review of the violation history confirms the account termination, and we will not entertain further discussion about this incident. Subsequent tickets will be closed without response."

Even though I haven't been affected by this SERIOUS issue, I am incredibly mad just reading the responses anet sent to the wrongfully banned people.  Now that we have context that those who were banned are more than likely innocent given Chris's admission of there being an issue, I don't ever want to deal with the support people at anet nor do I have confidence that my account won't be spontanously banned for an issue on THEIR end and be told   "You can't be innocent because we're NEVER wrong, NOW GET OUT."  Those heartless and condescending responses are absolutely infuriating.

On to Chris's reply though, I'm not sure if he had a role in the banning process or not, but his reply was devoid of any apology and him saying "Updates to follow regarding cause and some more juicy information" sounds like he's teasing those who are banned.  I honestly can't see any forthcoming information being "juicy" at all.

Anet once again proves that they only ever ban for shits and giggles with no real motivation, and without any breach of EULA.

Chances are they're going to come back in a few days and call this an "exploit," of some sort, and all the fanboys are going to claim this was a fair and just banning and that they don't want cheaters in their game.

Happened 3 times already in the past.

There's a big difference between an "exploit," and something "being exploited," and anet really needs to learn the difference.

I really cannot wait until the day Anet bans all CoF P1 runners for "exploiting."

Name the ones that didn't have any gain, either financially or otherwise.

In A Perfect World

It would seem that sometimes ArenaNet's "absolute confidence" is misplaced.

I can understand the need to "just say no" in cut-and-dried cases of exploiting, which I'm sure most of them are, but when players are unfairly and summarily banned due to game bugs, the canned, uncompromising, Kafkaesque denials and refusal to consider appeals (i.e., see reason) are downright disturbing.

ArenaNet and NCSoft might want to rethink that approach, because it can undermine and potentially erase the goodwill of the community, and losing that inevitably leads to losing money.

I did Goemm's Lab a week ago, fell too many times to count and had that glitch happen numerous times, which did suck, but hey, I was still learning then how to jump properly. No issues at all and I can confirm at least 3 people saw me get slingshot glitched and actually posted tickets about it.

Speaking of which, doesn't anyone find it odd not one single person referred to it as Goemm's Lab? I keep seeing "that Metrica Province jumping puzzle"...

not quite, but the way he mentioned just doing cof 1 would be enought for a ban... and i bet like 70% of player base already did cof path 1 at least 1 time. I for example do 3 runs each day.

Not really. That Asura's name wasn't very memorable and had little to do with the jumping puzzle itself. I do that pirate jumping puzzle in LA all the time and I can't remember the pirate captain's name.

I am one of those still banned due to the Metrica jumping puzzle. Many others are still under the ban with no response. I was never given any reason other than tampering with the game. I was not allowed to speak to anyone or appeal my case. Never have I tampered with or altered the game in any way and never have I dealt with a company as harsh and uncaring as Anet. They are the ONLY company in my long years of doing business that I have had to file a BBB complaint on. This is a shame, because I just purchased the game 3 weeks ago and was having a blast. It was my favorite MMO and I spoke highly of it to anyone who inquired. What reason would I have to tamper with a game that I just purchased and was still learning? In addition, I purchased 1600 gems in the gem store for $20 four days prior to my termination. Not only was I hit with an erroneous ban, but have been informed that I cannot get a refund for a product I cannot use. This approaches theft.

This whole experience is truely shocking. I hope you don't mind me posting this here, but I wanted to make everyone aware of this issue since they also terminated my forum account. You can read more about this on the referenced subreddit thread.

Have you opened a support ticket?  If not, open one, and post it in the reddit post referencing this.  They'll unban you, and you help them figure out why this is going on.

Yep...I had a support ticket opened and it was closed on the 26th as mentioned above. However, I updated the closed ticket today with my observations of what I encountered while attempting the jumping puzzle, and GM Hades took note and sent it up the chain to senior management. However, if past experiences are any indication, I'm not optimistic. I really have no idea what caused the ban, since I'm not guilty of tampering with the software...so I'm stumbling in the dark here. Only other wierd thing that may have caused it, was that a friend and I were playing around by jumping off the side of Rata Sum for laughs and taking massive damage. No telporting when dying, just having to restart at a waypoint. Maybe the software flagged for the high speeds? I dunno...at my wits end here.

If you have already logged a case with BBB, and you received a reply from Anet, do remember to update the BBB case with the official response from Anet as well.

This is so that the representative from BBB is also updated on the latest findings. Hopefully this will compel Anet to be abit more transparent with the issue.

Hope everything works out for you.

I am another that has been frequently checking the forums since my ban on the 6/26/2013.  I did the jumping puzzle, frustrated because I am very bad at it and it took me probably 2 hours to complete.  I logged out as soon as I finished it and when I tried logging in again was terminated.  I got the same canned responses.  I submitted my complaint to BBB on the 27th because I didn't see any other options at tht point.  My ticket is no longer closed but I still don't have my account back.  And the person who posted " ... and all the fanboys are going to claim this was a fair and just banning and that they don't want cheaters in their game."  Is perceptive, because while I don't have access to post on the forums still since I am waiting to be reinstated, I am reading callous propaganda like

"The witch hunt really needs to stop. A mistake was made, kitten happens, move on. Man you people beat things to death."
Couldn't find a definition of what Kitten happens means, some new slang that isn't even in the online urban dictionary yet I guess.

and this person who is the author of practically every other post on their forum with the same rhetoric attitude in all of them

"The problem is that so many people are claiming to be a false positive while they are not and they well know it.
But guess you have to gain something by believing all those so-called innocent people."

"kitten" is Anet's attempt at making the "bad word filter" cute and amusing. The forum auto-replaces curse words with kitten. Much like GuildWarsGuru's "RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO".

*sniff* the memories.

Anyways, carry on. Just a random tidbit of information.
