At first I found it to be kinda meh.
Then I got a good grip on those elemental movement skills and thought: This is pretty cool!
Especially considering the lessons of the sky achievement ( 40 crystals ) you will have to get to some crystals that are in very hard to reach places.
Normally I dislike jumping puzzles, but I loved it in this form, made me think of the good old platformer days of Mario and Rayman.
The scenery and music itself are also beautiful, and the vertical way the new map is built was great.
But now that I have all achievements, my personal node and backpiece I find myself wondering what else there is to do besides admiring the scenery.
All that is left is the race, and, awesome as that is, even that gets boring if you repeat it time after time.
Considering that the bazaar is here for 4 weeks, I am wondering if there will be any additional content added in the form of story and/or quests/events/you name it.

Seriously... having looked through it, there's pretty much nothing in the LS content so far that caters to players who don't like JPs or races. The city and most of what you can do there is, basically, one big jumping puzzle (and getting charged for waypoint fees when you miss something is rude), and a third of the achievements available are "go do these jumping puzzles in the world" - also a bit rude, considering that that's what the Aetherblade cache achievements required, so that's basically two fortnights in a row where it's been JP based.

The kite drops in the open world are following the same "first player only" model as with holo projectors and the like, which is nonsensical, since I can't see any way they could be abused if they were treated like nodes (one player activating them doesn't block other players from using them) - at least the others had the fig leaf justification that if they could be activated by multiple players in succession, a single projector/gift box/whatever could be farmed. So as well as another third of the achievements being tied into the rollerbeetle-style racing, getting the kite drops are also a matter of racing other players. Fortunately, they don't drop much to speak of, so that isn't proving as competitive as it was for holoprojectors.

Still, what it boils down to is: If you're not a fan of jumping puzzles, racing, or sPvP, there's not a lot for you in this update.

Not to mention the total lack of lore (I recall several instances where people's sphincters tightened in glee over the prospect of Tengu in various forums).  Every update they just pull more and more out of their hindquarters.  The RP forums have richer writing than the tripe being put out.  Their writers are overpaid.  It's not a high fantasy RPG, it's a flimsy town of Rock Ridge backdrop.

Two patches ago was a festival, last patch there was a new dungeon, this patch was jumping puzzle focused and has a new spvp map, perhaps next patch we'll see WvW alongside something else(pve), and then the patch after that another new dungeon or something.

With content patches of this size and frequency, not every one of them is going to contain things everyone likes, but with a rotation such as what I mentioned above, there should be something within that 1&1/2 to 2 month period of patches.
For those who dislike jumping puzzles, I can see why it would be painful to get 2 JP-centric patches in a row though.

I have to say, I'm really enjoying the race, it's the first mini game I've really gotten into thus far.

Which laughably brings up the cons of the temporary content they keep adding and then removing from the game.

If you can't add a new dungeon every time you retire one, you leave us with the same boring tripe we had prior to the content update.  Welcome to the ArenaNet's _REGRESSIVE STORY!_

I'm so glad money is being put towards having nothing to do until they decide to turn on their next dungeon.
It's okay to enjoy crap if you're willing to admit it's crap.
Every patch is like ArenaNet walking out onto the stage of the International Don't Kitten Up Championship, and then proceeding to shiv itself in the stomach 30 times while screaming "IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!"

That said, I enjoyed myself the first two days of it. I really liked, what most others seems to dread: The Jumping Puzzle element of the new chapter in the Living Story. The Sky Crystals were incredibly fun to complete, just roamed the place and collected them one by one without any guide, so it was a bit challenging and took about an hour and a half, I believe.

Quite pleased how the Achievement system works out to be, will be fun to get those boxes for the next couple weeks and the armor skins, despite being undyable, open up a few new combinations which look quite fine in my book. I don't know yet how I will get the Zephyrite Helm, as it costs 250 of those fortune scraps and I merely have 30 up to now - but I am intent on getting it, because it looks rather divine on my Guardian. After they completely screwed me over with the Dragon Helmet (not showing BEARDS for Norn) - it's good that they avoided that this time around!

Aesthetically, the Bazar of the Four Winds looks fantastic, imho! A little inhospitable around the fringes, too quiet in my opinion for something that's supposed to be a buzzing market, but overall quite fine.

Did some Sanctum Sprints today, was great fun too, but I hope they get a bit away from Mini Games in the future updates - because those are making up the bulk of any patches we've received so far and if I wanted to play the games, which they are based on that much - I'd simply switch on my N64 and have a go at it. I want to play Guild Wars 2 however, so giving me content that's based on its own mechanics would greatly increase my playtime experience.

Story wise it seemed a bit thin this time around, but as I already read some of the leaks for the 16th of July, it seems the quiet before the storm.

Don't read on if you haven't seen the datamined leaks yet and don't want to spoil it for yourself!

Spoiler

That for me, sounds absolutely great. Sure, for some it might hit too close to home if their choice might not be the popular one, but one of the main issues I have with the personal story in all its 80 level glory *cough* is that it suggests that each and every adventurer, each and every one of us was not only destined for greatness - but they literally shovelled their doctrine of us being the Saviour of Tyria down our throats at every turn.

Now that might be nice for single player games like Skyrim but for MMORPGs it always bothered me. I thought this will be a rather elegant stylistic move of their story telling, should they pull it off and I am very much looking forward!

But if I applied a rating chart of 1-10 to this most recent patch, I'd give it a solid: 7.

I wish they had not lazied up on the armor skins etc., and given some more content that doesn't revolve around mini games - but ultimately it's very fun to play through it and will easily carry me over those next 2 weeks.

I also appreciate that they took a bit of the asswittery out of the Cox Boxes - that definitely accounts for +1 point on the rating, but I'd rather seem them be cut all together than keep them in, in their current manifestation.

Sorry for derailing a little here and there :D

I hate it.

I hate it how there is yet again punitive checklist of things to do which punishes player in long term for not playing along (because soon enough, quartz nodes will disappear along with map and only people who grind out achievements will keep access to celestial gear).

I do not care for jumping puzzles either, and now there is whole map of them which is ro♥♥♥♥♥♥♥er.

I bough-in this game for not being evil - not MMO tricks that make you play even if you are not really having fun and slaps for you not participating. Yet this patch does exactly that for me. Neither did i buy Mario Online, but till now that was easily ignorable.

I played this briefly today and I do enjoy some of the puzzle aspect to it. But what I hate is the fact that if I have 3 fully stacked crystals, I have to choose between dropping them all to fight an event I stumble upon or try to have my input with my Elementals and hoping someone else comes along without a crystal.

If I had more time, I'd probably be seeing it through to the end today. But unfortunately I don't and then I need to make sure it's done sometime this week or forever miss the chance at doing it.

I can imagine that is incredibly annoying. I'm just glad that swapping into engineer kits doesn't drop crystals. An exceedingly pleasant surprise, lol.

I think Arenanet really need to start doing some work on the story/lore, its completely lacking at the moment; whats strange is that its the polar opposite of GW1 which had reasonably good lore.

I think it's utterly retarded. Idiotic content + new RNG boxes every 14 days. Good job ArenaNet.....
GW2 has set a new high for me in terms of "unfun".

Beautiful city, it was gorgeous to look at. I hate jumping puzzles thought. So I didn't bother with any achievements, I just wanted to go have a look.

Only thing I didn't like is the same as before, it's so little.

Well, it's certainly better than most of the individual pieces of living story we've had so far, I mean the new map is designed very well, I love that Canthan feel to it, climbing it the first time was interesting and somewhat challenging so that's a plus, but so far it ends there, when I got to the top I thought "man, I don't know what to do now"

luckily it wasn't me but the game since there was nothing to do there, have yet to go looking for baskets but it's still the same old "press F for 'content'" type deal.

At least the catcher back pieces are nice, the helm looks pretty good in some ways also (though I think it's too "tall" for a helmet)

LS is getting better bit by bit, still waiting for a massive change in the whole here's a checklist now go finish it mentality though, one of these days I hope for a living story that actually tells me a story.

Worked for me. I like the whole "entire zone is JP" thing. Maybe in a future patch we can get a "entire zone is a boss" thing.

Many raved about the dungeon from Sky Pirates. Some people like me thought dungeons were meh, so it's our turn to have fun with JPs now.

I can live with Checklist Wars 2. I prefer this to World of Waitlist.

Please provide a link or source to back up your statements about how A.Nets utilizes their resources.  I do not believe that you have any idea how much money and resources they are spending on anything.  The devs are consistently vague and merely doing P.R. speak.

I have no idea how much income from Guild Wars 2 is being spent on other games due to influence by NCSoft...and neither do you.

The map design is awesome. The mario kart thing is awesome.

The rest is... the same as every other living story, bland and boring. I don't like how there are "duration" stacks on the movement/jumping abilities. It completely ruins it when you're one jump away from getting a sky crystal. There's very little content.

I do wish the map was bigger, it was fun getting to the top and exploring. That fun only lasted about ~2 hours overall.

If ArenaNet isn't planning on releasing expansions, they need to stop being lazy and add in explorable content that'll last 10hrs+ – 1 jumping puzzle or 1 dungeon isn't going to cut it at all.

ArenaNet does not work on Lineage, Aion or Wildstar. Nice try though.

But then again, I suppose we should keep assuming that ArenaNet is lying about everything and that a random forum-user (that have a track-record of hating everything that has to do with GW2) is much more trustworthy?

This made me chuckle a little. I remember Dulfy mentioned on her site that she talked to one of the Devs what he thought, when the Hellfire/Radiant Skins will be in the boxes.

According to her, they were contemplating to put them in for somewhere around 3000 to 5000 Points.

Now after it going through all the necessary channels, it's obviously spread out from 3000 to 9.000. Did they hire Jay Wilson or something? Did he DOUBLE it once again?

Nothing really in there that I'd kill myself to get, starting GW 1 for rather cool titles and a metric shit ton of achievement points for GW 2 seems more appealing.

I realize, of course, that the new content is not everyone's cup of meatoberfest ale....but I love it.

I really hate jumping puzzles so I was dreading this update.  But now that is is here I have enjoyed it so much I played in it for hours yesterday.  The setting is amazing and I hope they leave it as a permanant zone.  i loved the crystal hunt and I enjoy the race very very much (still haven't come in above 6th but the rewards are ok with a guaranteed rare loot every 15 times so that's cool).

I do agree there is very little forward movement on the story here but I wonder if this first week is just stage dressing for the rest of the month.  I hope so bercause there is a lot of potential here and I want to see more of it.

BTW - much prefer this way of doing the rng boxes. Instead of the one rare shot being able to collect scraps to buy the armor with is an excellent idea.  And having the 10 scrap box available for those few extra scraps I wound up with is very nice.

So, for me, i would give it a strong 8.5 out of 10.

I'm having a fun time. The race is so much fun. Still haven't got 1st yet, but that's because I just recently found out about "light travel."

Because the zone is so vertical in nature, it seems quite small which is kind of a bummer. The upside is that there's so many quasi-hidden areas with the crystals and such.

Relax, you are not expected to earn 10k achievement in a month.

You can use it as a goal, or do what most people do:  play the game, get achievements.  They aren't going away, so everyone will have them eventually.

I'm glad that they raised the achievement bar so high. We already have a few players that are over 10k, they deserve something for their time. The rewards should scale better as well. They could double the permanent bonuses, and it wouldnt be noticeable.

I think this patch has grown on me a little. I don't hate it as much as I did when it was released. I'm not that skilled with JP's. But I was able to find 40 sky crystals, thanks to delphy. I followed along with the video and half the time I found myself unable to complete full sentences. "They just did wha-, how am I suppose to-, son of a-"

I must  admit I have surprised myself today and found the Sanctum Sprint mini game to be quite fun, which is unusual considering it is not the type of game mode that immediately appeals to me. Pretty crap at it, managing to fluke a 4th place but this has not detracted from the fun experience. Given its short duration nature, I can see me hanging out there a fair bit over the next few weeks. :)
