Just stumbled over that paritcular Youtube video and I thought I'd share it with you guys:

If that doesn't look borderline fantastic, I don't know what does. Massive Kudos to Arena Net's Art Department, they definitely up'd their game with that one.

If I wouldn't play the game already, I'd be more than hot to do so. Forgetting the bumpy road and the couple short-comings the game undoubtedly has, for a moment.

I am not sure if it's been posted anywhere yet, I couldn't find something in the search - if it was, feel free to remove it, of course.

The Art is spectacular as always, the voice over sounds really bad however. Sounds like they got some b-list voice actors to read a emotionless script. But then again I don't listen to Chinese all that often so my opinion is probably pretty irrelevant.

So the west gets live action crap and the east gets an amazing trailer the showcases the game.

if only the zones actually operated like that, I would not mind seeing hordes of risen parading through Orr.

Well with this video released on You Tube my guess is they'll celebrate the first year with the release of GW2 in China.
I was very surprised that the video was only in 480P.

I wish the actual game looked as awesome and action-packed as the trailer suggested. If Orr operated like that (and players were properly rewarded for their efforts), I'd never leave.

Not really, its still better then subtitles ( I know, im going to get crapped on by the people who watch anime in japanese with english subtitles) . Not a lot of stuff is localized or licensed in Chinese/China. So its better then not at all in your home country (i.e. China).

Some interesting facts on this, since Illien post this video. Straight from the Chinese website. Remember a lot of things get lost in translation. :P http://translate.goo...ex.html&act=url

  • Copies Sold: 3 Million Copies Sold.

  • Daily Page Views of Official US GW2 Website: 3 Million Page Views/Day.

]About 3.5 Million hours played per week between 2.5 million active users per week... GW2 is played about an 84 minutes/1 hr 24 min per week for the average user, or about 12 minutes per day.[/size]
Someone calculated it but i havent checked his math. i gotten this from reddit: http://www.reddit.co...ars_2_from_the/

Really? You're comparing a TV commercial in the States with an online trailer in China?

How about comparing the countless online trailers for GW2 with the Chinese one instead of the TV commercial?

Complaining for the sake of complaining is all that is.

This was honestly my biggest issue: the thing looks DAMN fine, but then you realize that the most amazing moments are just bosses appearing (Shatterer landing still is the single best thing about that fight - hell, it's probably the best thing about ANY boss fight) or the boss leaving (the bowing fractal giant) or simply PR shots (the "air" PvP fight).
It's the same bullshit that they threw at us and it barely has anything to do with the game.

我门必胜!  Guild Wars 2 characters do sound odd speaking in Chinese.

I didn't realize before this that the Chinese name for Guild Wars is 激战, which literally means "fierce battle" instead of Guild Wars.  Anyway, it certainly sounds better in Chinese than 公会战 (a more literal translation of the name "Guild Wars").

It also felt weird with the hero waving goodbye to his parents and carrying their hopes with him that the hero would accomplish great things.  I thought that in most of those personal stories the hero's parents are not even around?  Forcing GW2 into the mold of Chinese societal norms is just weird.  And the hero in the trailer looks a lot more oriental than most of the human models in the game, it seems that they are pandering to a Chinese audience.  Or it may just be me, since I have been playing this game for years, in the US, ever since GW1 started.

Other than the weird moments, the trailer looks great though.  That charr with the flamethrower looks like my charr engineer.

It does, I know a few Hollywood movies titles that have spanish speakers voice over (I know spanish) but its not intend for us. immersion does still work in voice-over in their native language for the consumer that wants it but a few things will still clash, jokes will be one, monotone speaking, holidays and culture clash.

I'd call that 'learning from experience', which is better than... well, not.

Unless there's a bit of unimplemented content to come, though, that looks like there's a lot of staged shots that aren't representative of what's in-game. Mind you, it looks like they've got one of those big lionheaded "tanks" animated now, so maybe that means some day we will see one in action rather than just being part of the scenery...

I had to chuckle a bit when I saw the guardian trying to Shield of Absorption a Risen giant, though. That's probably going to become the Chinese Hamstorm...

Honestly, it's a machinima trailer using in-game footage for the most part. Those are the kind of things where I don't really expect to see how the game plays, but to get an overall feel of its aesthetic direction and to be highly entertained.

So I'm willing to forgive them, the staged shots. It's just how things are done ;)

I'd never dare to lose a word about the voice-over though as I quite frankly don't speak Mandarin so how could I be the judge of that? :D

As to the numbers posted above somewhere. I am real curious what the benchmark for "active players" is, because 2.500.000 is a pretty damn big number for 3.000.000 sold copies in my book. One I am not too trusting to be accurate.

Interesting numbers.

What is the definition of an "active user"?  In any case, even without that information, you can infer the average daily users and play time.  Someone please correct me if my math (or underlying logic) is wrong:

2.5 million users a week --> 357142 users a day
508,428 hours a day --> .7024 hours a day = ~42 minutes per user a day

Important note: the average users could be higher or lower depending on the time period selected.  (Is it safe to assume the marketing department used the best possible numbers for promotional purposes?)

Other notes:

-A small (?), perhaps negligible, number of users are bots.
-People on the extremes could be distorting these averages (e.g., those who play six or more hours a day; those who login for 10 minutes a day).
-Obviously people are going to play more on weekends, so these figures could be misleading if not properly interpreted.

If they could get a good portion of Chinese gamers to play this it would be amazing for Anet and NC Soft. I have my doubts about this though because the only games that seem to stick in China are games that have staying power in China are games with large pvp replay value (LoL, CS) and grindy games (WoW and Chinese MMO's). I would argue that Guild Wars 2 doesn't have either.

Plus I don't really see Guild Wars 2's buy once play forever thing working for China. Chinese people usually aren't used to paying for software and most definitely not shelling out 300 yen for a video game. The most popular games in China are f2p (or pirated lol). I can only see China biting if they make GW2 F2P in China upping micro transactions to make up for the lack of profit. They might be able to get away with selling the thing for under 100 yen (aka like 16$) but I still don't think people in China would buy it even at that price.

EDIT:
Especially in the light of the FB-"like" fiasco.

It's a bit weird how this figure is presented. I mean - ~350.000 people logging in each day, cummulating in that 2.500.000 per week - is hardly something I'd call "active users per week". My understanding was that, they are in fact unique users - hence the uttered suspicion about those numbers.

But I guess if I had a food truck and would park my business in front of the same factory each day, noon - having the same 35 people showing up per day, I'd calculate them to be 250 patrons a week...

The weirder part is that this means that 2/3 of the people that bought the game are still logging in EVERY week. Where are those people - because they sure as hell aren't in my guild, on my Friend List or in the areas I play in.

They sure as hell are in my Guild Ritualist.

Your anecdotal evidence (and mine) is crap/useless when we have actual hard data straight from the source.  A greater then 80% retention rate for an MMO is freaking FANTASTIC statistically.

2.5 million doesn't refer to Active Users.

The caption "每周活跃用户" means "Weekly Active Accounts", but the units at the end of 2.5 million is "人次". After some googling, I found out that term has the same meaning as "hits".

It counts total hits not unique hits. ie 200 could mean 200 people or it could mean 1 person repeating 200 times.

So it makes more sense that they were actually referring to a website or something equivalent.

Do you kick people from your guild/FList for inactivity? What was your guild's objective: hardcore, casuals, ....
I certainly believe that there are tons of folks out there still playing, but if those numbers mean what they seem to mean it would also mean that my experience of the game is utterly unrepresentative of what other players are seeing.

If I didn't already have the game, I'd buy it. Glad Anet learned from their past mistakes and made the trailer theirself instead of hiring someone else to do it.

As a side note, that dramatic necromancer walk is just screaming to be cut away from the rest of the video and tittled "necromancer mobility" :P

I would think that GW2 players would have learned to spot PR/Marketing numbers by now and have developed a healthy "Oh really?" attitude towards such things.

Anet can say whatever they want, and they can spin numbers in any way they want. The numbers come from somewhere, and they mean something, but that doesn't mean they come from or mean what Anet says they does. Just like how CCP announces the number of active players in EVE when what they are really announcing is the number of active accounts when players usually have 2 or 3 accounts each. Consumer experience trumps PR every time.

Pact drop ships periodically falling out of the sky in Orr, scores of risen just marching across the plains, Charr tanks mobilizing and moving out.................where's all that stuff? That would surely bring some life to the game. The small things make the biggest difference as far a immersion goes.

That said, anyone know if someone's made a wallpaper out of that art at 4:55?

Tone is very important when people do voice acting or read from books. It's what makes things engaging. I don't think these voice acters really managed to do the tone very well. So it does sound emotionless D:
