from Dulfy.net:

Keep all of your currencies in one easy-to-find location! This Wallet holds dungeon tokens, coins, karma, laurels, Guild Commendations, Fractal Relics, Badges of Honor, gems, and glory and makes them accessible to any character on your account. Upon logging in with each unique character for the first time after the Wallet has gone live, that character will have all of their currencies deposited into the account-wide collection.

OOooooooo.  So now karma will be shared across all characters?  Awesome!  Plus, we all just got about 1/2 a bank tab back!  Woohoo!

Just need to know if there is a stack cap for the dungeon tokens, wvw tokens, etc...cause 1 stack of 250 cor those just won't fill the bill. :)

I think this will be good, provided they actually make it so it can carry an appropriate amount of tokens, and such. Basicaly, not 250...I mean, what can you get with 250 dungeon tokens or Badges of Honor?

For Karma, I would hope that it can hold at the very least 252k, so you can at least get a full set of the Orr temple armor/trinkets in one go...

If there's a stack cap it should be (and should've been) 500. 500 BoH for the gift of battle, 500 for dungeon gifts, 300 for chest pieces.....it just makes sense that the stack limit be 500.

I dont really get the reason for a stack cap on currencies.  It really is just forced inventory clutter. I get the reason for stack caps on trash items and craftable materials, your inventory size does need to serve a purpose, but putting on currencies has always just been clunky and needless.

Doesn't matter.

Besides, the OP could've been on Dulfy for another reason and then the update caught his attention.

I would agree but there needs to be a stack cap of some type lest it become stupid.

For example if it was limitless then you'd simply see this symbol "--" and you'd have no way of knowing how much you actually have.
But the reality is that hardly anyone acquires such a high number of a single material or token before spending it on something.

So in the case of this game, 500 at the least is reasonable while 999 is the most. Not sure if there's a gold cap.

I wonder if this will include the currencies from the various events, like the Mad King and such.

I'm still sitting on a rather impressive pile of wool and candy corn.
It's okay to enjoy crap if you're willing to admit it's crap.

If they introduce a cap, then this becomes useless. And by "useless" I mean, not worth the time that it took to implement it: this time would be better spent on something else.

But, I fully expect to not see a cap, and that is why I am insanely looking forward to it.

I wouldn't.

I mean, eventually they'll let us use it for something.

I'm honestly surprised there isn't a karma for gems exchange...

I mean, it would be at a fairly high rate, but right now karma is almost useless at high levels.

I only ever use it to complete the daily.  And even then, it feels silly to me.

No cap limit in the wallet!

Well, no functional cap limit.  An unsigned (unable to go below zero) 64-bit integer (long, word, doubleword, it's semantics) can go up to 18,446,744,073,709,551,615.  Tho GW2 is a 32-bit client, so 4,294,967,295 might be the limit.

Good luck there.

This was something we probably should have seen coming from the start:  a few other MMOs - WoW included - started out with tons of crappy bag-wasting currency and then gradually shifted over to a "currency sheet" where you have everything you need all in one place.  Then again, given that GW2 makes money off of wasting bag space, I wasn't sure they'd get there.  All the same, it's still great news!

Another side effect will apparently be that all gold will be shared across all characters, at least from how the description reads.  That is equally awesome, in my opinion.  (And it makes the bank gold storage - as well as the associated achievements - obsolete.)

In addition it's also confirmed that your badges etc. in the bank will also automatically convert when this goes live.

There's already a karma to gold conversion in the game now through the Orrian box thingies. You can then go from gold to gems.

If karma becomes account shared, now would be a good time to use all those karma jugs with various boosters, banners, karma food etc.

I spent all my karma to the Orrian boxes when they first came out. Now rapidly approaching a million again.

And it is about time this is coming. I have 10 full stacks of badges of honour! It was enough to make me buy a third bank slot! Same with the many, many stacks of Fractals tokens.

Why? Jugs are still jugs until you use them. The bonuses and all that will still work the same when you decide to take a slash.

It's very likely that jugs will be simply converted to karma, as they will have no real purpose after wallet goes live.

I always thought the 255 limit was due to trying to save on storage. 255 is the highest number that can be stored as 1 Byte. Double the storage to 2 Bytes and you can then store 65535, and that large a stack would mean an increase in storage space, memory and perhaps no compelling reason to buy storage slots ;)

I believe the limit is 250, but very true.  But also, storage is perhaps one of the cheapest things when dealing with computers these days.  Processing is the most expensive.

The issue is that ArenaNet keeps adding currencies, which take up bank and bag space and can be easily viewed as a means to 'push' the storage limits of the player base that doesn't participate in the gem store.

And since the currencies are now going to be an account-wide thing with the wallet, they don't have to worry about things like keeping track of stacks in slots and so forth.  It's a linear growth of each account added to the game as far as storage issues are concerned.

It wouldn't surprise me if in their post-analysis, they considered this a cheaper alternative, because there are people who create 'mules' to carry extra things and in even in the case of people who pay for additional slots for their mules, as the lifetime of the game runs, the cost of storing data for mules from non-paying customers exceeded just expanding the bytes on a global account to keep track of things.

I got dozens of every jug saved to use with boosters for when I get a char that needs it to Orr.
Once karma goes account, which it will, I can stop packratting those.

Why would they suddenly lose purpose? They're basically the same as Bags of Coins - only there is unfortunately no coin booster..

And Pristine Fractal Relics can't go in the wallet apparently.

Thank god.  Any update that helps my backpack space (as opposed to holiday/event updates that just fill it with more useless crud) is much appreciated.

This isn't as good as when Guild Wars 1 added a similar update for crafting materials, but it still makes me happy.

Martin Kerstein responded on the karma jugs...

Jugs of Karma will remain an item and can be used as usual. The karma you gain from them will then be stored in the wallet and will be accountwide.

While in general the wallet does sound amazing; I personally like to have a savings account kind of thing, which is currently just the normal bank. That way I can deposit a round number of gold in there and not worry about it, keep so much on my characters so they have enough for wp/repairs/food etc etc but the savings and bulk of gold are sitting in the bank. I also use the guild bank with my gf to save up for joint projects, or when we run dungeons together, we each put what we earn in etc. Now it'll be harder to track earnings from any 1 dungeon to know how much to put in, and/or I'll have to keep my savings in another guild bank tab instead of my own.

Meh sure I'll adapt to it, loving it on the whole though.

Question, feedback or issue? Pm me!

Imagine, just for a moment, that there is a tooltip for every item in your inventory. And that tooltip also lists the quantity of items in the stack. What is the problem with hovering your mouse over a stack, of, say, 15k mithril ore to get the number from the tooltip even if it does not fit the inventory cell visual space? And most miraculous is, it is already implemented in game. Who would have guessed.

Quote

So in the case of this game, 500 at the least is reasonable while 999 is the most. Not sure if there's a gold cap.

In the case of this game it would be reasonable to make the stack cap 1. Or 10. Or 5.

Quote

Except it's like 20-30g per 500k karma you spend, and it's hardly worth your time with buying and opening the boxes at this rate.

Except in the grand scheme of their database architecture such an increase on a large scale will hardly add 10% storage volume to the database, and most likely it will not even exceed 5%. The greatest part of their data volumes comes from trading post listings. I'd estimate it at 80% or so, the rest being all character data, including their bank space, and negligible amounts of storage go for server-sided data.
It's more like making savings on matches.

Also, as Maz has already noticed, having a separate currencies tab for every character forces them to allocate more disk space for storing that info, even if your currency count is negligible on your alts.

I mostly agree with you.  However, due to programming limitations, there will ALWAYS have to be a cap.  Let's just hope they set it really high (unlike Calypso's silly suggestion of 500, which would be completely awful).

At any rate, this would be a nice idea (I know LotRO had a similar system at some point) but I wonder if it'll be a gem store exclusive or not.  I fully expect, either way, for Anet to step it up with the additional meaningless inventory items after they do this of course... got to get players to buy additional storage space somehow (they certainly did their best with cooking ;)  ).
