So, I've been doing the Queens Gaunlet a lot lately, because I dinged 80 on my rogue and it seems like a quite easy way to earn money and get some good gear. However, I've also noticed that I die a lot. Not necessarily because I really suck at this game, but because of the huge clutter of spell effects and people I can hardly see mobs telegraphing their attacks.

I was wondering if anyone else had the same issue, and if there's a way to solve this, because I have had the same issue in dungeons with groups with a lot of aoe. I love the looks of the game, and for soloing, most of the effects are quite allright. However, in groups, they just become too much.

On a similar note: does anyone know if Anet ever intends on putting in a colour-blind mode for those of us who have difficulties spotting the red rings of doom?

  • Improved Effects Level of Detail System

Effects like fireballs, streaks that trail behind a sword, players’ footsteps, and even the fiery breath of dragons are all part of the beauty of Guild Wars 2. In situations where all of that beauty can start to take away from the visual clarity of the battlefield, this new system will slowly start reducing the detail of each effect in order to increase combat visibility when many effect types are overlapping. When action gets intense in dungeons, PvP, the open world, and WvW, this system will let you see more of the action.

this was done last update on the 6th but it still doesnt seem to help much with the large zergs of particle effects.

First off, if you are in zerker that can be an issue.  Melee thief in zerker in this specific environment will have a hard time not being downed.

2nd, I recommend using range in this specific environment, especially if you go partial or full zerker.  Shortbow shots bounce around and can multi-tag.  Pistols for bosses, if you go full ranged.

I don't have issues with the screen intensity being overwhelming unless I am on a melee toon, one of the reasons I dislike melee in MMOs.

Huh... Never noticed that. I'll try it out, but even without those effects I still think it maybe way too much.

I like my S/d. It's a lot more involved to me than p/p spamming. The screen being cluttered should not be the reason why I'm getting shitstomped. And even then: the clutter is huge enough that even at 900 range it's still hard to react in time.

So you are zerker melee and wonder why you die so fast as thief.  Noted.

So you know what my issue is, and you still reply like this. Noted.

I never said I was full zerker. Hell, I even mentioned in the OP that I'm still in quest greens/blues. My issue is not that I die too fast. It's that I die due to things I couldn't have possibly seen because of spell effect/particle clutter.

Moving to Tyrian Assembly General Discussion.  The Vigil Academy PVE forums are for profession discussion specifically.

Also, let's keep it civil and on topic regarding the OP's question about spell effects and cluttering in CP.

You and I both know it doesn't matter what you're wearing if you can't see what's going on. And he never said he was in full zerker anyway. Needless.....

ANYWAY

Yes they introduced that system where the game automatically dials down on the partical effects and there's also a box you can check at the bottom of the options menu that's supposed to cut down on the effects as well.

But both of these things have proven to be a whole hell of alot of useless.

My hope is that the removal of culling will allow you to essentially turn people "off" because then you can see what's going on. Lol
