Maybe one or two, for my mains. Depends if there's more content which requires more AR.

Considering what it takes to craft one in the forge with all the items needed per gift and all that jazz. Hopefully Anet will make it so its not as much of a pain in the butt. I can't see it being any better, even minutely but we shall see on the third.

I am also hoping to see a legendary I like enough to invest butt loads of time and gold into crafting. Nothing tickles my fancy as of yet.

If it's not time gated like everything else. I got enough stuff going on to organise that actually makes me money. I got a business and a relationship first. Guild Wars 2's damn low on my list. I get a day a week for it and even then it's 2 hours tops.

I need them. I have a compulsive need to have max stats on everything. It's a curse.

Time gated or not, I feel no imidiate desire to get ascended weapons, I don't even have exotics for all my weapons yet.
I inevitably will get ascended weapons though, I play the game after all so I'll eventually acrue the required ressrouces to make them, just like what happened with my ascended jewelry.
Either that or at some point I'll feel like farming one up to occupy me or something along those lines. I bought my warrior his 3rd exotic weapon (a bow, previously masterwork) becasue I failed Liandri twice due to not having enough damage. Perhaps something like that will lead me to get an ascended weapon at some point as well.

I might if I like the skins, but seeing as how I don't do fractals all that often there's really no point of me getting them at this moment. I feel like in PvE exotics are still better than ascended, mainly for the ability to socket them with gems/sigils/runes.

Depending on what it takes to obtain the mats necessary for crafting I may... and depending on the skins they have.  Some of the mats are once per day rewards which are fine; it's the T7 ones that are made using "lower level tiers".  I have a feeling it's going to be 250 of X mat and 250 globs of ecto though I hope to god I am wrong, but that seems a formula they prefer.  If that is the case, then no I will not crafting one anytime soon.

I don't run FOTM so they aren't a huge necessity for me.

It depends on whether the stats are necessary to remain competitive in WvW.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
No.

To elaborate:
We have no idea on how gear progression will work in GW2: will we see better gear in 2014? Gearing up everyone of my guys in the current max tier gear is already too much for me and I simply can not be bothered to go even higher, especially if we might have to upgrade again. I'll just wait for the lvl 100 rares instead. (And if we don't get them: I can already do the things I want to do with the current gear so nothing is lost.)

No, but I'll sit jealously at the side and hate everyone who was committed enough to make one.
And preview them a million times and imagine I have one.
Then cry.

It might go well with my top-shelf fractal capacitor. I might do that just for you. :P

We'll wait and see, but if it's anything like their current methods of "longevity" ("I swung my sword again!") it's likely I won't be interested. I also haven't ran into a crafting system I enjoyed. I only had fun with it for a second in WoW when I got into character and hung out with the dwarven mastersmiths.

Pretty sure those are just statless weapons to use as skins.

So we can only craft the new ascended weapons and not the mist weapons we get from maw daily chest??

If they remove sigil slots from ascended weapons, it will crash the sigil market.

Or no one will bother with Ascended weapons, because losing the sigil effect might not be worth the marginal stat and AR upgrade.

The thing that concerns me is the ascended gear is account bound, which forces anyone who wants it to max crafting in those disciplines.  Not only does this further the conversion of crafting into a "me me me" thing, it will crash the trading post.  For a social game, that relies on an active TP, they are in danger of turning this into a soloing game.  At least as far as crafting/gearing is concerned.

And if anyone thinks ascended drops (which they said ARE coming) will save people from HAVING to level crafting......how often do you get a high level drop?  And more importantly: with the exact stats you want?  Now multiply that by the number of Ascended items you want.

At least I already have weaponsmithing and huntsman to 400....and intend on getting artificer there at some point as well.

Most people do not craft their exotic weapons as it is, as buying them is a million times easier.  I imagine even less people will craft ascendant.

Working to get it yourself does tend to make it more valuable to you though. But to me whether I craft it or not depends on if the weapons look as terrible as Kudzu and The Dreamer.

But of course I'll aim to craft one.

They introduced a gear treadmill, and my goodness, it's definitely working well to get my A into G.

In all seriousness, most people who play a game will aim to achieve the best that they possibly can, within the time they can allocate to the game.

lol nope. Most likely it'll be because they made it cost 1,000 of each kind of mat and I'm  just way too lazy to do all that work for a stat increase. Heck my alt still has mostly greens with some rares and like 1 exotic. Of course I barely play that itself is an issue too. One they should be fixing instead of introducing an increase in stats.

How is releasing one new tier in the first year a gear treadmill? Even then, it's not like it's locking you out of content (maybe level 20+fractals but I'm pretty sure you can experience each fractal in the first 5 levels)

Probably not.  I generally don't even craft exotics as I think rares are good enough for me.   Though, I'll probably try to lift my weaponsmith, huntsman and artificer to 500 just because I want those at max...

This. I feel like I Like too many of your posts, Valkaire. Sorry for the spam, but stop being right. :)

Of course I'll put effort towards getting ascended weapons once I'm able. If I didn't want to constantly work towards perfecting my character(s), I wouldn't play an RPG.

Is a "gear treadmill" an MMO term with a precise definition, or is it like saying what constitutes as "grind" and - inversely - "fun"?

IMO just like many other MMO terms it has a precise definition but gets misused often.
