After a long and arduous journey, my pal, Gate Monkey, and I have finally become Legendary Defenders of Ascalon. We have dedicated our lives to defending the Black Citadel, Ascalon, from the Ghosts that still inhabit the area. Him a Thief and me an Elementalist, we fended off wave after wave of the furious dead, never once thinking to report to Legionnaire Tosia Domesplitter, as there were fights to win.

Legendary Defender of Ascalon has a new meaning now. The title has been reclaimed from the foolish humans who defended our homeland FROM us so very long ago. The title is ours.

It would be cool if they did something like this again. Of course, using the level scrolls would have to dq you from getting it.

Well, after calculating that at a rate of 10 enemies per 2 minutes giving 3 experience each would take something in the order of 7 months of nonstop play, we decided to work around it.

I'll just repost what I said in the reddit thread:

You can join a friend in a PvP match from anywhere, including the starter zone. PvP matches do not set your real world position. You can, while in a PvP match, access the WvW page, and move to a WvW map. WvW does not set your real world position.
From there you can: A) Level up completely off of bad players, karma trains, and hordes of Skritt and Centaur, or B ) Smash a lot of dust, carrots, and iron together.
Any time you go to character select, it puts you back at your real world position.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do here.  Are you talking about the Survivor Title?

Short history lesson:
In the original Guild Wars, there was a starter tutorial zone that took place in Ascalon. It was the Presearing, because, well, once you left the zone, the Searing happened. Not the most clever name, really, but hey. People stayed in the Presearing because the landscape was beautiful, and it became a bustling metropolis of players who wanted to stay. Eventually, some players found a method by which they could reach level 20 (max level in GW). The method, in essence, was to repeatedly die over and over to a group of mobs, so they would level up. Eventually, you could kill the enemies once they were a certain level, and get experience from them, all the way up to 20. Players brought it up, Anet thought it was pretty cool, and gave them a title, Legendary Defender of Ascalon. Any character who reached level 20 in the Presearing was granted the title.

To the present: After someone in our guild found out about this method, the other person in the picture and myself decided to pay homage to the old title, so we made the only characters who started in Ascalon, and got to the level cap in the starting tutorial zone.

I'm familiar with the title, I have it on two GW1 toons.  :P

I was just trying to figure out what you meant by it, I see you mean getting to 80 entirely in Plains of Ashford.  Although I would think porting into PvP or W3 would make that void.  /shrug

To make that a lot easier, all you'd have to do is craft for it.  Every starter zone has a crafting town.  That plus the myriad of DE's everywhere would make it relatively easy.

It's not in Plains of Ashford, it's in Fury of the Dead, the tutorial instance you have to go through to GET to Plains of Ashford.

I'm sorry to be a buzzkill but didn't you basically level to 80 in WvW then, not in Ascalon?
Not trying to diminish your accomplishment at all, must've still taken a long ass time.

I imagine once you'd gain more levels, you'd get more than 3 XP per kill: as far as I know, each kill gives the same percent of XP, but the actual number changes based on how much XP you need to gain to get to the next level. Or is that different in "Pre-searing 2"?

Still, congratz on doing it. ^^

Man I miss pre-searing Ascalon... I do NOT, however, miss the nightly pulling-to-the-res-shrine, going to bed, getting up to kill some high level charr and going about my day cycle ;)  Say what you want, I really liked when they added a better way to get LDoA.

There were people who were posting about getting to the 50s or 60s early when the game came out, so they made the level 1 mobs give a flat 3 xp no matter what.

How do you invite a person into the pvp match?  I've got a guildy trying to do this but we cant figure out how to make the invite work for someone in pre.  He has tried from the lobby, from inside a march and from team but none of them seem to work.

Oh...you mean the personal story.  I never made a Charr toon.  :/

I still don't think that's the same thing though...

It's the same thing as when you have to kill the frost wurm as norn, or elemental hand as human, or nightmare dragon as sylvari, or the machine as asura. It is the very first zone you go into after creating a character.

...

I know what the starting instances are, he just wasn't specific enough in his explanation.

At first, it sounded like he was talking about Ashford Plains, he never actually says where he is.  Since I've never done the Charr intro, Tosia Domesplitter sounded like just another heart vendor to me.

And I meant doing the starter instance over and over isn't the same as getting LDoA in pre.

sigh....I feel trolled
