I remember someone from Anet saying they monitor the pre weapon price for legendary's
I think that pricing on the pre weapons i getting out off hand. I for 1 want Bitfrost but pre is atm 700 gold. Mayby its just me but that seems a bit overprized for a pre weapon.
So what do you think off it.

Also it seems that legendary has really nothing to do with skill (wich i knew already tbh) but its all about how rich you are, so that means you either farm (COF well untill last patch) Zerge champions (since last patch) and if you actually play the game your chance to get a legendary are well slim, so i wonder whats legendary about that?

I know you will be able to craft pre at some point but i can see it comming that materials will sky rocket and it will remain about wealth and not about skill.

The challenges associated with obtaining a legendary, as you have covered in your post, have been discussed ad nauseum in a number of other threads.

Yes, the price may be high, but it would depend on each individual as to whether it is considered 'overpriced'. Some of the more hardcore players already have multiple legendary weapons while those willing to put less time towards farming or aren't traders (or plain not lucky enough to loot a precursor or to forge one in the MF) may never own one.

Ultimately each player needs to decide for him/ herself whether the legendary weapon is worth the time. I can see the attraction in it, but farming day and night to get the coin for it is not my idea of enjoying the game. If getting a legendary weapon is going to take a disproportionate amount of time, then think really long term: when the game is dead and gone, will I regret the time I spent on it, or will I remember it fondly for the right reasons?

I remember doing endless MF runs in Diablo II for loot, which I never actually obtained. That is a regret. Personally I am working hard to avoid such regret in the future.

Only get a legendary if you enjoy the skin, they are worthless as a sign of dedication to the game (what they were designed to be).

They are going to introduce precursor crafting with the new 500 crafting, later this year. However, that won't affect the total pricing at all since we will most likely see the price of T6 mats and ectos double after the 3/9 patch.

This.

Saturday, I decided I wanted a legendary.  I picked one I liked and wrote down what I'll need to get it.  Will I spend the next months only to get the items on that list?  No (or rather, for the next month that answer will be yes, as I do love SAB and I'll be able to get shards for my baubles (or was it bubbles?)...).  But I will put any item I get that is needed for the legendary in a safe spot.  So, I'll be saving for my legendary.  This might take a while, but I don't really mind.

+1 to this. That's been my plan since the early days. There's no way I'm spoling the game for myself by purposefully farming my brains out for a skin I might like.

It's Arena Net, they did the same thing in GW1 making things easier to get over the time of the game, what was hard to get 12 months ago is easier to get now...

I mean already if you look at legendary now, skillpoints are now super easy to get compared to before, ecto's easier to get, obsidian shards easier to get, t6 materials easier to get, gold easier to get, lodestones/cores easier to get, WvW badges easier to get, except for pre cursors pretty much everything in the way of making legendary's has been made easier to get....

Soon even pre cursor's will be easier to get probably and many other things.

Same thing happend in GW1, it's happening even quicker in GW2 and it happens in other mmo's too since like forever. The longer the game is out the easier things are to achieve. Just the way most MMO's are especially when it comes to Arena net.

If you get a pre cursor, sell it. Forget about legendary's for now they are not worth it anyway, plus in a few months, it will be easier to get one probably.

A lot of players just buy gold with real money anyway whether through gem store or through third party's to either help with legendary materials or to just buy one out right. It's way more common than people think it is. Legendary's are more of a money maker for Arena Net more than any worth the player might get from having one.

They were very clever in the way they designed the game around buying gold with gems / RL money and pushing that through to players with low drops and diminishing returns at the start of the game, now gem prices are high it's even more convenient and worth while for players to use RL money for gold. Legendary's and the sheer amount of gold you need for just one, is just another of many ways to pushing that agenda.

Why do you think they have just taken their sweet time over sorting out the pre cursor and economy problems? Because they like it the way it is now, it makes them more money the way things are now. When that changes, then and only then they will address those problems and say "look we did what you asked now kiss out feet coz we are awesome, you should be grateful and thank us". Arena Net listens to it's players feedback. I think we all know by now they could of dealt with those issues a long time ago if they really did want to...

It's really easy to see the patterns and behaviour of Arena Net, the game design and the players if your looking. It's pretty obvious.

I decided last January that I wanted a legendary... I'm still working on it. Gift of Mastery is done and working on the Gift of Fortune right now. I  have about 1/2 the T6 mats, 100 or so ecos and the mystic clovers are done (they ended up being real easy once it got the mats)... Its been a long road so far and I don't get much time to play. I can honestly say that if I didn't want a legendary I probably never would have bothered with wvw.. didn't really care for it at first but now I play it every once in a while and glad it did. The night all 3 mega zergs were in smc battling it out was alot of fun.

To get back on track.. I think getting a legendary is more about the journey its going to take you on and its just sad that some people buy them because they don't get to experience any of that journey.

Just wish the pre cursor price came down some, the legendary price can stay as high as it wants, it takes alot to make them.

Only thing that might make me stop making my legendary is if the new ascended weapons are as "awesome" as they claim they are... probably keep trudging though to make my legendary.

I've been going for Bolt since day one, and now have every single thing for it. Except for the precursor. What once was going to cost me 300g is now up to around 600g and still rising. I've worked hard to get everything else, but the precursor is getting ridiculous.

This basically sums it up, the majority of the other materials are not insanely difficult to get, I only started playing seriously (as in logging in more than once a fortnight) 3 or so months ago, and only decided to go for a legendary 2 or so months ago, and without very much farming at all have been able to collect a good proportion of the materials, and I know how I'm going to get the rest...except the precursor. I've done 8+ world boss events daily for most of the 2 months, dungeons most days, fractals sometimes, WvW sometimes, poured excessive amounts of rare & exotic greatswords into the mystic forge, and not only have I not managed to acquire a precursor, but I'm left without a clue as to how to realistically obtain one. I personally believe that saving up 800g (which is what Dusk is now approaching) and giving it to someone who was lucky enough to get one is legendarily unfair, especially when I have put a lot of time and resources into trying to obtain one myself and simply not been lucky enough.

I'm surprised that prices for the precursors haven't gone down every since Colin Johansen announced that precursor crafting will be in the game by the end of the year.

I'm getting close to having everything else, then I play the waiting game.
