Here's a person who salvaged 2000 Masterwork pieces of gear:

Or ~30.8 luck points per Masterwork item salvaged

Here's a person who salvaged 250 Globs of Ectoplasm and another 87 Ectos:

Or ~118 luck points per Ectoplasm salvaged (from an account of 2000 ecto salvaged posted below)

Of course, take this for what it's worth, people can report inaccurate data.
  • Also, does anyone have any data for luck point rates for salvaging Fine gear in large quantities?
  • Also does Rare gear level 39-67 yield anything special, since it doesn't salvage to ectoplasm?
Edit:

~10.5 Luck points per Fine gear piece salvaged

I asked this question in the GW2 subreddit and someone replied saying the expected Luck points is around 9.4 per Fine piece (see below, it's more around 10.5). This was data posted by a player salvaging 1-2K of blue items in the official forums.  Again not definitive but that value seems about right.

I don't have any data collected, but having salvaged thousands of fine and masterwork items, I suspect they have similar luck drop tables*.  I've actually gotten more of the exotic essence of luck items from salvaging fine items than from masterwork, but it's probably not statistically enough to indicate a real trend.

As for the lower level rares, those don't appear to salvage into luck items.  It's just Fine, Masterwork or ectos.

* - Masterwork item salvage might give more of the item fine/masterwork essence of luck per salvage.  But the chance to get fine, masterwork, rare or exotic essence of luck from a salvage seems similar between salvaging fine or masterwork items.

I found a better source of data, both show fine gear no matter the level results in an average of 10.5 luck points per salvage.

I noticed the reddit link mentions using a crude salvage kit, and they never got any exotic luck items.  I always use a basic salvage kit, and I've gotten several exotic luck items from salvaging blues.  I wonder if the type of kit makes a difference (see below)?  Also, the fact they have never gotten any exotic luck items could greatly skew the results, since those are worth 200 pts each.

Based on the wiki table for salvage kits...
Crude salvage kit has a 0% of salvaging rarer materials
Basic salvage kit has a 10% of salvaging rarer materials.

If the exotic essence of luck is considered a rarer material, that could explain the difference.  Also, if that is true, using even higher grade kits might lead to more exotic essence of luck salvages.  Seems like more experimentation could be done here using different grades of salvage kits.

According to the an official Anet designer post about this question, the type of salvage kit does not matter in regards to the amount of luck one gets.  Of course, that doesn't mean they're correct. ;)

Maximum Luck level is 300.  Though the amount of luck points to get there is something like 4.1 million, a ridiculous amount to attain by any  measure.

So it`s not LINEAR (gotta love Anet braging there is no grind in GW2) in any strech of imagination, that`s what i wanted to know TY !
I was kind of hopping that amount of points would stop rising at some time like 5k or something....

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think your luck may also effect how many & what quality essence of luck's you get from salvage as well.

I've noticed that I'm getting allot more green-yellow quality essences from salvage now that I'm at 80% then I was at lower lvls.

So if true at least that helps reduce just how much of a grind it is.

The higher my MF gets, the more often it seems like I get higher quality essences, as well. And ever since I got an exotic essence from either a green or blue(cant remember) from a fine salvage kit, thats all I use for trash loot.

Luck/Magic Find only effects the quality of items (gear and mats) dropped directly from kills. (source)

Meaning it does not effect salvaged items, loot from containers, harvesting or loot from standard or major event chests.

Know they say it doesn't effect loot from salvage & for the most part I think it doesn't but I think it may effect what types of luck essences you get (not how often you get them).

I say this because I seem to be getting yellow & above much much more often now at high (80%+) then I did at lower levels & nothing has changed in what I'm salvaging or how I'm salvaging it.

I salvaged 2000 ecto last night and averaged 118 essence of luck per salvage.  I used a Mystic Salvage kit in order to maximize my Crystaline Dust output.  It took forever to salvage and refine it all to Excotic Essence of Luck.  I think they should have a Legendary refinement level or consume all option in order to make this process eaiser.

Wow, 2000.  That's some serious cash. Interesting you got well above the average of the other two reports.  Thanks for the input.

Just a tip I read for consuming Essences en masse: Temporarily map your mouse wheel scroll down & up (in Windows via your mouse software) to a left mouse click.  Scroll your mouse wheel back and forth to consume a stack without wearing out your mouse button or finger. :)

I should have added that I am now at a base luck level of 138 and it requires 8700 essence to get to the next level.  Salvaging greens and blues will take forever.  Greens average 30 luck per salvage will take 290 salvages.  Blues average 10 luck per salvage will take 870 salvages.

I am back to selling everything green or below.  I will salvage rares and exotics depending on their TP sale values.   From now on I will probably place a buy order for Ecto every few days with the money I make off selling everything again.  I should make enough to buy an average of 1 level of MF a week (more levels at first but fewer as it gets higher).  I estimate it taking another 3 years to get to base level 300.  This is a good long term goal for me as I am now close to my base MF before they took my armor, trinkets, and weapons away.
