Would you play GW 2 with Oculus?

What is Oculus? Oculus is a future HDVR for the PC.


GW 2 is not scheduled to play with Oculus HDVR.
However please share your thoughts on this soon to come out product for the gaming market.

I would not. Chatting using the keyboard is relatively important for me and it's a bother to type if you can't glance down at the keys now and then. :)

Why would anyone not. I mean assuming you have money to blow on something like that. It would be like saying I can have something better...but I think I will settle for less just because. I will certainly buy one assuming the price is within reasonable bounds.

Sorry dude my nose tends to hurt when i have glasses (light ones) for longer periods, same with ears when headphones are on. This damn thing i wouldn`t put on my head even my life depended on it !!!

One day when they make this size of google glass then......maybe :)

prolly not, any type of glasses, including sunglasses, makes my eyes heavy after a while of use, it just wouldn't be practical for someone like me to use

Nope. The camera and targeting issues would give me motion sickness and migraines in first person.

I've been very interested in virtual reality kits since they came into focus for games in the later half of the 90's so I would probably try it. However afaik even the Rift set will cause motion sickness after prolonged use so I'm not convinced of their use as anything more than a fun gimmick for 15 mins.

Oculus for an MMO is a gamer's biggest dream. However GW2 just isn't designed for it. It would need some drastic refinement in order to get the Oculus experience.

GW2 probably will never support and even if it does, the Rift is not very good with games that were not designed for it in the first place unless they are already first person but even then, unless the game was designed with the oculus in mind, it won't be great on that specific game.

Star Citizen / CIG has actually teamed up with Oculus Rift and will support it in their game as well as be designed for it.

I'd try it, but as Occultus says, that might just give you motion sickness with the poor camera.

The Occulus is an item I'd buy once a game come out that demanded it.  I'm pretty much that type of buyer.  If there's an experience I want to have, that motivates me to buy a new piece of hardware.  I don't own a PS4 unless there's a title for it that I want to play.

GW2 is not the type of game to spur such a purchase.
It's okay to enjoy crap if you're willing to admit it's crap.
Every patch is like ArenaNet walking out onto the stage of the International Don't Kitten Up Championship, and then proceeding to shiv itself in the stomach 30 times while screaming "IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!"

I prefer the game experiences which are taylored to the Occulus Rift rather than having current content and game patched to support the OR (with a few exceptions). I don't thing there would be much to gain from a GW2-OR, especially since there's no first-person mode in-game. I will stick to the OR horror games and play GW2 on a monitor.

If they allowed first person view, sure. But they don't, so no.

Text is still a major problem with virtual interfaces. Alot of the new development around the rift involves removing traditional HuDs altogether. For many genres this is OK, but it's a real problem for what continues to be a primarily text-oriented socialization process in MMOs. VoIPs whether integrated or not have not managed to hold a large community together the same way, I think much of that has to do with no-one really working on the issue of how you create true virtual positioning/mixing of voices. In an actual room you can have a hundred people carrying on multiple conversations at once (with those near to them) but you can't do this in any of the popular VoiP rooms at all. It also is usually difficult to switch between speaking on multiple levels at once. (I.e. manage private conversations, guild conversations, and server conversations all at the same time - be able to talk to one while listening to all, and quickly switching between them.) The ideal solution might even involve delaying an individual listening to these multiple levels of communications so they can be heard in sequence, but this can create some serious asynchronisity problems too. So until anyone takes a reworking of VoiP seriously I think we are stuck with text, which plays poorly with the Oculus right now.
