Some dude went and posted the chat links to the light ascended armor in map chat immediately after I logged in.
Don't know where he got the codes, but here's a look at it on my sylvari nec.

Spoiler

I like parts of it, but overall I think it's just too damn intricate and overly busy. There is such a thing as too much detail. I like the ascended weapons, I do not like this armor.

Also on females it's kinda awful. I like the female medium top, that's about it. The armor is way too busy as a whole set.

Some players were commenting in game about how Anet made them look so ugly so players were more inclined to transmute better skins onto them. It's hard to disagree with them.

They look terrible, it is hard to justify it even though I suppose it is opinion considering this is suppose to be a game heavily about cosmetics and less about "stat grind", but then again I suppose most people know better by now.

Umh, when I hear "Ascended armor set" I just think something like "Ohh god, that will be awesome designed piece of armor, like Obby in Guild Wars 1" then I have seen screenshots.. and... Little bit disappointed by that look... :-/

I really believe this is true on first sight. On the other hand: when you mix them, you can get some pretty nice results. Also, the heavy armor looks great on Asura's for example.. So it's not entirely true. But I guess that can be a matter of taste aswell.

The female light if dyed correctly can be OK IMO. Canthan feel anyone? Yeah, I'm kinda feeling it. It reminds me a bit of the canthan heavy armor from gw1.

Actually, I think they look even worse on the females.  I previewed all of the piece on my female norn, and they are thoroughly unappealing to me.  I was really hoping that the ascended armors would look cool and be a great way to show off our characters, but these garments are way too busy, and very unflattering in their appearance.

As someone who has been continually disappointed by the lack of armor diversity in this game, I was really hoping ANet would finally rectify that glaring problem via the ascended armors.  Now it looks like that hope has been completely dashed, possibly leaving legendary armor as the final chance for salvation.

Ascended light armor should be the old Vabbian nec armor from GW1, because your collar isn't big enough until it needs its own jiggle physics.

I agree with you because the female version is to die for. But It's even better if you mix it with obsidian!

I really hate that skin. I dunno why. I'm just tired of all the Circus looking pieces we get. Bring back the good ol' Ele armors from GW1 (at least 1-2)

Hideous beyond what mere words can describe.

But hey it's a statistical advantage (even if tiny small), so everyone will get three of them! And then burn 40g on Transmutation Crystals.

Isn't there a cardinal rule of fashion to not use horizontal stripes because it makes you look fatter, while vertical stripes are slimming?

The armor looks worse on male norns, especially the heavy, it makes them look pudgy.  I think that's the issue, not the detail, but how unflattering they look.  Wish they'd bring back some of the hotter GW1 armors.

And those light pauldrons look like shoulder tumors.

The female version would look just as good on males. The male version looks like it belongs in a trash bin. Both versions are horribly overdesigned.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the armors (and weapons) are made with transmutation in mind - either simply to sell more stones or because they know people will want to transmute to their specific look anyway; a lot of players don't like running around in craftable styles. And they'll still sell more stones :P

So I just tested that on my Necro girl, and... This is horrible, she looks like Lady Gaga (And it isn't good..)

OT: I just want more armors for every profession- Armors that fits to warriors, armors that fits to Guardians etc. not only one skin for everyone.

When I saw necromancer running in armor that will fit on mesmer or warrior that looks like guardian.. I said "Ok, something is wrong.." I don't say that in game are not armors that fit for example necro's {for example} very well, but sadly- more variety is for mesmers and ele's

You did really well on this one. In this situation, it actually looks very interesting. I haven't tried it with different dyes yet.
I might change my mind when they're actually released, because on preview is also a lot of detail loss. When I'm previewing existing items it also looks blocky, but pretty good in the game itself.

I'll just try and keep an open mind about it xD Maybe we just need to get used to it.
